The 992 GT3 Touring is a more subtle way to go really fast for the Porsche enthusiast

To know the GT3 Touring, you have to know a bit of history. Recall the 991 generation when Porsche introduced the GT3 as a PDK-only track machine and the purists called foul? Porsche sent out a small batch of 911R models to appease those who wanted to row their own, and quickly found out that there were way more people who wanted a stick than they had imagined. Shortly thereafter, a new manual-only GT3 model was launched called GT3 Touring. With many things carried over directly from the 911R...

All of the Porsches in the Forza Horizon 5 official announcement trailer

Despite the pandemic, the team behind Forza has been hard at work at a new version of the Horizon game. This time Forza Horizon 5 heads to Mexico in one of the most expansive driving worlds ever created for a video game system. Porsche is featured several times in the official launch trailer, so we expect the company to have a big presence in the game. While not the hero car — that falls to the Mercedes-AMG Project One — we did spot some quality machines. Here they are in chronological order in ...

Is Porsche finally going to build an electric Boxster?

Porsche has been threatening to build an all-electric two-seat sports car for years, building electrified Boxster and Cayman prototypes on 987 and 981 platforms, but never quite making it to production. After 25 years of the entry-level mid-engine platform, it’s possible Porsche is about to tear up the script and rewrite it completely for the next generation. Heck, it’s possible that Porsche could even be planning an electric version as a send-off for the current 718-generation. According to Ca...

Porsche’s gasoline cars under investigation for incorrect fuel economy numbers

German car authority KBA has begun probing Porsche over suspected incorrect fuel consumption data for the company’s gasoline-powered cars, according to a report from Business Insider. A Porsche spokesperson told Reuters in an email that “The current procedure has already been able to find no conformity deviations in the large majority of vehicles,” but the company made a voluntary notification to KBA as “a precautionary measure” a year ago. So what does all that mean? Apparently there are confo...

You need to buy this Martini-liveried Porsche 944 Turbo while you still can

All Photos: Rad For Sale / Lane Skelton Porsche’s 944 Turbo is an icon of sports car performance for an entire generation of enthusiasts. While the 911 may have captured the headlines and secured its place in Porsche history, the 944 was the best selling Porsche of all time when it was new, and the 944 Turbo delivered levels of performance that couldn’t be matched by even the best street 911s. 1986 was a watershed moment for water-cooled Porsche performance because this transaxle platform — whi...

Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo EPA range goes official

Photo credit: Porsche U.S.-bound Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo models are about to arrive and head to customers, so we now know the EPA-estimated range that owners will get on their new models. It’s right in the ballpark of what we would expect from a car like this, with this utility, but it does come with a caveat that might make it more enticing. All Taycan Cross Turismos are 4 models, with all wheel drive. The base Taycan Cross Turismo 4 is rated at 215 miles. Coincidentally, that’s the same ...

Rod Emory is working on a hard core off-road Porsche Macan Baja

Screenshot: @rodemory on Instagram It seems like off-road Porsches are all the rage these days. We’ve seen totally rad Cayennes from E-Motion Engineering, awesome off-roading in Moab, and even Porsche themselves are getting in on the Cayenne craze. And that’s to say nothing of the safari 911 trend that has been blowing up in this community for the last decade. The next logical progression for Porsche fanatics looking to get deep into the dirt is to start fiddling with Macans. The compact crosso...

The 911 GT1 is the pinnacle of Porsche awesome

Screenshot: Hoonigan AutoFocus / YouTube Following what was more or less an outright ban on Porsche’s dominant 962 in sports car racing, Porsche looked at the new regulations for GT1 road-based sports cars and decided to build something to fit in there as well. The rules of the day required a certain number of street cars to homologate for the class, so when Porsche decided to build what amounted to a 962 wolf in 993 sheep’s clothing (wolf im schafspelz), it needed to build a few for the street...

Porsche Commemorates the Mercedes-Benz 500 E’s 30th Anniversary

Photo credit: Porsche If you thought Porsche’s first sedan was the Panamera, you’d be wrong. The brand isn’t a stranger to four-door vehicles because it has a history of collaborating with other automakers building fast sedans, wagons, and hot hatches. The Volvo 850 T5R and Audi RS 2 were just some of the vehicles that Porsche helped develop. One of the most recognizable, however, is the Mercedes-Benz 500 E, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary Its blend of comfort and performance made it ...

Porsche Is Working On A Sub-Taycan Electric Sedan: Report

Photo credit: Manuel Carrillo / EV Pulse It’s no secret that we’re in love with Porsche’s newest family member, the all-electric Taycan. A smaller, lighter platform and a lower price tag. According to a recent report from Autocar, that’s exactly what Porsche is currently working on. Based on VAG’s Premium Plat...

Spied: 992-generation 911 GT3 RS Porsche winging it up at the Nürburgring

Photo credit: SpiedBilde For the 992-generation of 911, the GT3 has a stout downforce package. The new rear wing is not only functional, but large. Apparently, though, it’s not the largest wing that you’ll be able to spec to your 992. That privilege will go to the select few who end up with the GT3 RS. Caught testing at the Nürburgring by our clever spy photographers, the GT3 RS is packing the business. The rear wing is the first thing that you notice, and you also notice that it’s significantl...

Adding A Truck Bed To A 914 Makes The Best Sports Car Of The 1970s Even Better

Photo credit: Bradley Brownell / FlatSixes Dick Troutman and Tom Barnes are no strangers to building magnificent cars. They combined to form one of the best known coachbuilders in Southern California, creating legends like Lance Reventlow’s Scarabs, Jim Hall’s first Chaparral, a weird four-door 911, and many other racing and roadgoing contraptions. Some of their designs were beautiful, others purely functional, but everything served a purpose. In the early 1970s Troutman and Barnes found a rear...

Watch Nicolas Hunziker Paint This 356A In Timelapse

If you’ve ever seen Nicolas Hunziker’s work, you might think he’s slashing paint across canvas as fast as a flyby Porsche, creating automotive beauty where there was blank canvas in no time flat. But in reality he’s a methodical and plotting artist, knowing exactly how the finished result will look, and where the shading should go before even starting the first brush stroke. He manifests the Porsche and extracts it from the canvas in a way I have never seen before. It’s truly something special,...

Catch Up On Your Porsche’s Deferred Maintenance Before Heading Out On A Summer Road Trip

Things have been a little bit weird for the last 18 months. Chances are you didn’t get much of a chance to take your Porsche out for a good long trip in 2020, and as Coronavirus restrictions begin to ease around the country, it’s time to fire it up and take it for a rip to some distant locale, preferably a tropical one by the ocean, or a secluded cabin in the mountains. Summer is here, and there’s no better time than now to drive your Porsche. Here at FlatSixes, we always recommend driving your...

How Does A Porsche Taycan Turbo Compare To A Tesla Model S And An Audi E-Tron In A Drag Race?

I don’t normally recommend drag racing, running top speed, or panic braking while it’s raining out, but that didn’t stop the CarWow folks over in the UK from giving it a go. They had three high performance electric sedans on hand, so why not compare them to each other in equal conditions? Given that the specifications between Porsche’s Taycan Turbo and Audi’s E-Tron GT RS are pretty similar, and the Tesla Model S Performance is just a bit more powerful than that, the three cars are fairly compa...

Trio Of Turbocharged Monsters Lead 11-Porsche Pikes Peak Entry

Porsche has a long history of racing at Pikes Peak, and equally a long history of winning on the mountain. 2021 returns with some unfinished business after BBi and David Donohue failed to reach the finish line with a flat tire in 2020 en route to what otherwise should have been the overall win. Last year the race was delayed and had a reduced field due to COVID travel restrictions and economic fallout, but this year it seems the world of racing is bouncing back well. BBi is back with a three-car...
