Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides injury updates on Matip, Lovren and more ahead of Brighton

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has this afternoon provided updates on the fitness of a number of his side’s sidelined stars.

Brighton vs Liverpool

The Reds are set to travel to the Amex Stadium for a Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion tomorrow afternoon.

The visitors will no doubt be hopeful of a bounce-back performance, following a difficult week which saw their lead atop the Premier League table cut to 4 points by Manchester City, and Jurgen Klopp’s men ousted from the FA Cup by Wolves.

‘All are improving’

Liverpool’s blip in form has coincided with a growing injury-list on the part of the Merseyside outfit.

The centre of the Premier League leaders’ back-4 has been hit particularly hard, with Dejan Lovren having joined long-term absentees Joe Gomez and Joel Matip on the treatment table after picking up a hamstring problem at Wolves on Monday.

As such, speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s trip to Brighton tomorrow, Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp was unsurprisingly drawn on the injury crisis facing his side at present, with the German tactician having provided updates on the fitness of Gomez, Lovren and Adam Lallana, as well as confirming that both Matip and Jordan Henderson are in contention to feature at the Amex:

‘Joel trained yesterday for the first time with the team, which is already really good but we have to see.’

‘We have to decide it day by day how he is doing, I am not 100 per cent sure. He feels good and that’s good for us, of course.’

‘Hendo will train today for the first time, we see what that then means exactly. Adam [is] out, Dejan [is] out and Joe, of course, [is] out.’

‘All are improving obviously, that’s clear. I don’t know if a few are available and for a few I know they are not available, so that’s the situation.’

‘Have to see’

When questioned on Lovren in particular, and when he expects to see the Croatian stopper back in action, Klopp explained:

‘I don’t know. It is serious otherwise he would play, but it is not that serious. It is a muscle thing and I would expect him back after maybe Crystal Palace (on January 19th). I am not sure. We have to see.’
