The Mental Magic of Paramedical Tattoos

Tattoos, though cosmetic in nature, have a diverse and longstanding history of significant purpose. For Eternal Ink Tattoo Studio owner Eric Catalano, an unexpected request led to a moment of discovery: while tattooing fingernails on a man that lost the tips of two fingers in a construction accident, he realized the restorative power of a new medium dubbed paramedical tattooing. Since, he’s tattooed discolored or …

45 Of The Most Epic Leg Tattoos

@fabio_tattooartist Legs are a great location for a tattoo because they are easily shown off, or covered up, depending on your mood or the occasion. There’s also plenty of space to fill, especially on the fleshy thigh area, although unless you often wear short shorts and skirts, it won’t be seen very often. The calf also works great for smaller works, other places such as the ankle and... Source

Either 9-5 Job Or Tattooing, This Artist Made The Right Call

The story of Alican Gorgu is similar to thousands of others, yet it’s also unique. He started doodling and drawing pictures on margins back in high-school and later dove into the graffiti scene. And after school he did what many others have – he went on to get a college degree and majored in photography. Up to that point, everything seemed to be going well, until he started working a 9-5 job in... Source

Literary Tattoos In Honor of World Book Day

World Book Day is a huge, global celebration of all things books. Created by UNESCO in 1995, the original idea was conceived by Valencian writer Vicente Clavel Andrés “as a way to honor the author Miguel de Cervantes”. April 23rd was the day that Cervantes happened to have passed, but it’s also the date that a few other literary heroes have died as well, including the Great Bard himself... Source

30 Of The Most Epic 3D Tattoos

This isn’t the first post we’ve done about 3D tattoos, and it’s unlikely to be the last because the art is constantly evolving and it looks so damn cool. Popularized by pioneers such as Jesse Rix and Winston The Whale, these works will make you look twice. Some look astonishingly real, as if there actually is a beautiful butterfly perched delicately on the skin. Source

Apparently, Embroidery Tattoos Are A Thing And It Looks Cooler Than It Sounds

ksuarrow_tattoo Two art forms, both involving the use of needles, but seemingly worlds apart. But no more. Embroidery, a classical art that you are more likely to associate with your grandma, has combined with the tattoo scene to create beautiful, folky designs that are both unique and traditional at the same time. The results speak for themselves. The rich, textured designs look like the ink has... Source

Daenerys Targaryen Gets Reimagined as the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - and It's Badass

It's hard to imagine the Game of Thrones characters existing anywhere outside of their fantastical, twisted, and gruesome universe. One artist, however, is attempting to do just that by illustrating many of the core characters with all our modern accoutrements: piercings, tattoos, and graphic t-shirts. Said artist, Hilary Heffron, uses Photoshop to create her anachronistic portrayals of everyone from Daenerys Targaryen to Jon Snow to Margaery Tyrell. The character's tattoos, in particular, are r...

New book of Mitch O'Connell tattoos

Artist extraordinaire Mitch O'Connell has a new book out, called Tattoos Volume Two: 251 Designs, Bigger and Better! Mitch and I've known each other since we were both 16 years old at Boulder High School. (He was in marching band. Here's his photo.) He was a terrific artist then and I hated him for it. Decades later, my hate has mellowed to mere jealously and bitterness. You can get a copy on Amazon, or buy a signed/inscribed copy direct from the Mitch (with extra surprises). ...
