Tesla closing retail stores in shift to online-only sales strategy

Tesla is moving all of its sales online, a dramatic shift in its sales strategy that will result in the closure of stores and some layoffs as the automaker looks for ways to reduce costs in order to bring a cheaper Model 3 to market. Tesla CEO Elon Musk didn’t say how many stores would close. He noted that some stores would remain and turn into information centers and showrooms. The company didn’t provide specific numbers on how many retail employees might be affected. “We will be closing ...

How It Works: ABS

When you hit the brakes hard, the last thing you want is for them to lock up so you slide. Anti-lock brakes -- ABS -- help prevent this, but how? Find out in my "How It Works" column in the National Post (Driving.ca). [Author: Jil McIntosh]

Tesla’s $35K Model 3 Arrives Fashionably Late

The $35,000 Model 3 is here. Fittingly, perhaps, it’s three years late. Tesla has promised a $35,000 version of the Model 3 since announcing the car in 2016, but the company focused on more-expensive variants at first to help get the model off the ground without tanking the company in the process. It needed the […] The post Tesla’s $35K Model 3 Arrives Fashionably Late appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

The $35,000 Tesla Model 3 has arrived — but it comes with a price

The long-awaited $35,000 Tesla Model 3 has finally arrived, three years after CEO Elon Musk promised to bring the electric vehicle to market at that price point. But that cheaper Model 3 comes with a dramatic shift for Tesla. Tesla said that to achieve this lower price it will shift all sales globally to online only, meaning the company will be closing many of its stores over the next few months. The stores that remain, in high-traffic locations, will be turned into information centers, Musk s...

Kia’s Niro Hybrids Lose Some of Their Anonymity for 2019

While the Kia Niro has its faults, most are forgivable. The vehicle’s imperfect highway manners and lackadaisical acceleration are easily offset by its competence in an urban or backroad environment. We’ve collectively praised just about every version of the Niro offered within North America over the last two years simply because it does the livability thing […] The post Kia’s Niro Hybrids Lose Some of Their Anonymity for 2019 appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Tesla halts online sales ahead of Elon Musk announcement

Tesla buyers might have a hard time ordering a vehicle through its website for the next several hours. The “order” webpages for the Model 3, Model S and Model X vehicle all redirect to show nebulous  message that reads “”The wait is almost over.” Below the main message, it reads “Great things are launching at 2 pm.” Updated: Musk’s Twitter page has changed just slightly. His profile photo now has a Tesla vehicle, and not the Mars shot. Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted Feb. 27 “Some Tesla news,” ...

Ford’s Fusion, a Popular Drug Mule, Is Still At It

Ford’s Fusion sedan has found itself in the headlines for illicit cross-border shipments before, and you know what they say about history repeating. Chinese Auto Market Not As Hot As Everyone Thought

China might not be the kind of market everyone thought it was — one without a ceiling, boasting unlimited potential for growth. Soichiro’s finest: the Honda RC30

Motorcyclists are a well-read bunch. Despite the well-publicized travails of some mainstream magazine publishers, the niche market is booming. Every country with a reasonably large population seems to have an independent magazine devoted to custom or ‘alt.moto’ culture. The latest entrant to this pleasingly busy market is Retro-RR from England. It’s a high-quality quarterly with 132 pages, celebrating bikes that were ridden or raced in the 80s and 90s. We were so impressed with the launch edi...

Bull-it SP120 LITE Jeans Review: A Slim Fit for the Ride

Introduction It appears I have become the “riding jeans” guys over the past several years here at WebBikeWorld.com. I’m not certain how this happened but I’m here today with yet another review of, you guessed it, motorcycle riding jeans. I do worry sometimes that I could suffer from “denim fatigue” with the volume of jeans that land on my desk. However, I was excited to see this latest pair of riding pants from Bull-It Jeans. I can’t believe it has been about 4 years now since Carmen and I revi...

This e-bike’s detachable battery is also a music-pumping boombox

We gushed over the Noordung bike nearly two years ago. Sleek, streamlined, and just a pleasure to look at, the e-bike showcased an organic design that housed electronics within it, and a silent motor that sat within its wheel. The e-bike was powered by a fuel-tank-shaped battery-pack that sat exactly where the fuel tank on a motorcycle would. The pack’s volume would immediately alter the perception of the bicycle, making it look more like a cafe-racer. This battery pack also played another pre...

Check Out the Suru Electric Moped

Pedals and Electric Power The idea of the moped has been around for a long time. Basically, it’s a bike somewhere between a motorcycle and bicycle with both pedals and another form of power. In the past, it’d been a small internal combustion engine, but now we’re seeing electric versions. We reported on the Onyx mopeds not too long ago and now the company Suru has entered the game. Suru is known for racing an electric superbike called the Amarok, according to Clean Technica. Now, the company is...

As Pedestrian Deaths Spike, Safety Group Puts the Spotlight on SUVs

We’ve already told you that, while traffic fatalities dropped in 2017, pedestrians deaths showed the opposite trend. Now, preliminary data from 2018 suggests pedestrians deaths rose to their highest point since 1990 last year, and one group claims high-riding crossovers and SUVs are a big part of the problem. How to Escape a Car Hanging Off a Cliff

The image of a car dangling over a cliff is one of Hollywood’s favorite go-to moments of suspense. In real life, finding yourself in that situation is quite a bit rarer, but it’s certainly not unheard of. When you consider the number of human-made “cliffs” like highway overpasses and bridges, there are ample opportunities for a basic fender bender to turn into a serious cliffhanger. If you find yourself behind the wheel of a precariously positioned car, the key is to avoid any sudden movements...
