April 2018 U.S. Auto Sales: Volume Shrinks, but New Crossovers Are a Hit

With an extra selling day compared to the same month one year ago, auto sellers in America had the chance to improve their numbers in April. Subaru, the two Korean brands, and Nissan all managed that feat, while the likes of Fiat Chrysler and Toyota did not. Honda, for one, was roughly flat. It all […] The post April 2018 U.S. Auto Sales: Volume Shrinks, but New Crossovers Are a Hit appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Tennessee Governor to Volkswagen Employees: Please, Do Not Unionize

Volkswagen’s singular U.S. plant has toyed with the idea of unionizing for the past five years. Chattanooga Operations, in Tennessee, initially seemed fine with the establishment of a German-style works council. However, while the United Auto Workers’ first attempt to seal the deal with votes failed in 2014, the union has since managed to rally more staff under […] The post Tennessee Governor to Volkswagen Employees: Please, Do Not Unionize appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Fiat Kills Off a Truck That’s Not Really a Fiat

Perhaps to its misfortune, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles does not sell a midsize pickup in the world’s biggest truck market, but buyers in certain overseas markets were able to get into a four-door, body-on-frame midsizer carrying the Fiat badge — the Fullback, more properly described as a rebadged Mitsubishi Triton/L200. Note the word “were.” The Fiat […] The post Fiat Kills Off a Truck That’s Not Really a Fiat appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Arresting: Renard’s ex-police BMW K75 RT

There’s a clean , sharp vibe to the bikes that come out of Renard Speed Shop. Estonia’s finest custom builders don’t have a fixed signature style, but the machines from the Tallinn workshop are always beautifully finished and pack a strong visual punch. This brightly colored K75 RT is Renard’s 26th creation, and it’s probably their most in-your-face build to date. Perhaps because this unusual BMW has just as much Italian blood as German… The BMW ‘bricks’ may not be pretty, but they’re tough...

More Changes Come to Mercedes-AMG

Daimler’s performance arm, Mercedes-AMG, has entered a period of transition. In addition to placing a strengthened emphasis on all-wheel drive, the company will also begin manufacturing vehicles in China. While the assembly locale isn’t equally important for all cars, AMG is famous for its one-man-one-engine philosophy. Part of the appeal, we assumed, was getting a […] The post More Changes Come to Mercedes-AMG appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Letter From The UK: More Fun Than It Should Be

The Suzuki Jimny is one of those vehicles: it’s not glamorous but it sure is gorgeous.  Geoff Maxted of DriveWrite Automotive Magazine goes in for some hard-hat motoring. Unfortunately, the Suzuki Jimny is not available in the United States which makes us sad. A few weeks ago I made mention of the Ford Focus Active, a very good car that as of right now, America will not get. In the meantime I have been driving the Suzuki Jimny, a small G-Wagen style off-road hero that is taking much of the res...

Ace of Base: 2020 Ford Explorer XLT

Let’s get one thing clear: it is my opinion that the 2020 Explorer XLT is not the best 2020 Explorer. Powered by a 2.3-liter Ecoboost four-pot, the XLT falls far short of the 400 horsepower 3.0-liter Ecoboost V6 found in ST trim. Early-2000s Excess Lives on in Oklahoma, Where You Can Still Get Your Hands on a ‘New’ Ford Excursion

The 2000s is not a decade remembered for its achievements in gorgeous vehicle design (Saturn Ion, anyone?), but it was a time that, until the final two years, saw Americans taking advantage of a good economy and low gas prices. The New Aprilia RS 660 Spotted

Not The Best Quality, But That’s the RS 660 Aprilia will come out with the RS 660 in the near future. I reported on this bike in March, and it looks like the company has one out testing. A recent video posted on the Aprilia Cup Facebook Page shows a quick look of the RS 660 at the racetrack. Though the person shooting the video did so in verticle orientation (a major pet peeve of mine) and the video itself is pretty poor quality, you can actually get a good look at the bike. The video was shot ...
