Boondocking near Turquoise Lake, CO

Martha and I drove Umarang, the URRV, out to Turquoise Lake yesterday.  About three and a half hours and we were free of the cesspool that is the Metro Denver area.  Probably could have made it here in three hours but construction on the I-70 Superslab slowed things to a crawl several times. After a brief mis-routing by googlemaps, we finally found the right entry road to a dispersed camping area near Turquoise Lake, about five miles east of Leadville, CO.Found ourselves a pretty good spot though...

The Great Self-driving Revolution Gets a Language Check

Words have the power to inform or mislead. The descriptors “military grade” or “assault-style” did great things for public acceptance of a recent Canadian gun ban, prompting legions of voters to believe the government just banned once-legal, high-capacity machine guns. The reality was far different, of course. In the automotive world, critics of the haphazard […] The post The Great Self-driving Revolution Gets a Language Check appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Ford police SUV heats its interior to 133 degrees to kill COVID-19

Ford is testing new software for its Police Interceptor Utility Vehicles that heats the vehicle's interior to 133 degrees for 15 minutes to kill COVID-19. Ideally, this happens when nobody is inside the car. The new disinfecting technique–not unlike a kitchen oven's "self cleaning" feature–is based on research conducted with the Ohio State University Department of Microbiology. From a Ford statement: Once activated, the vehicle’s powertrain and climate control systems work together auto...

Could a Kawasaki Vulcan H2 Be Coming?

A Supercharged Power Cruiser Kawasaki has the Ninja H2 and the Z H2 now, but it could keep things going with its supercharged powertrains and offer an H2 cruiser. According to Moto Revival, the company is working on a Vulcan H2 that would essentially have the powertrain of the Ninja H2, but stuffed into a new Vulcan chassis.  That means the Vulcan would get a 998 supercharged inline four-cylinder engine that’s fuel-injected and puts out probably 200 hp or so. That would make for a seriously imp...

2020 Lotus Evora GT Review: A thrilling, analog weekend racer

Why’s this on TechCrunch? We hear that occasionally when posting things outside of our general programming. Generally, there’s a tech hook; there isn’t here with this $100,000 2020 Lotus Evora GT. The Lotus Evora GT is supersized go-kart with nary an advanced technical feature. And I love it. While most cars are coming equipped with supercomputers, the lack of technical wizardry makes the 2020 Evora GT interesting, and that’s why it’s on TechCrunch. A modest v6 rests behind the driver. The st...

Kawasaki Is Working on a Leaning Slingshot Competitor

Polaris Could Have Some Competition The Polaris Slingshot is a unique three-wheeled vehicle, but I’m not sure it really qualifies as a motorcycle. Still, it’s an extreme machine and without a doubt a lot of fun. Now it seems Polaris may have some competition coming from Kawasaki. In a report by, patents were revealed to show a Slingshot-like three-wheeler from Kawasaki, but with one major difference: it leans. The Polaris Slingshot corners flat like a car.
