Junkyard Find: 2009 Pontiac G3 Wave

The years 2008 and 2009 were interesting times for GM, with the company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on June 1, 2009 and the Pontiac Division clearly on the ropes (despite the Bondo applied over Pontiac’s rusty image by the Solstice). To The General’s warlords, only one solution to Pontiac’s woes made sense: take the […] The post Junkyard Find: 2009 Pontiac G3 Wave appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

2019 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Review – Slow and Steady Rock Crawler

On paper, a midsize truck with a diesel powertrain and bad-ass off-road gear sounds like a recipe for fun. And based on our first drive of the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison, it is – provided you actually get an opportunity to leave the pavement behind. On road, however, in an urban environment — well, you […] The post 2019 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Review – Slow and Steady Rock Crawler appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Junkyard Find: 1987 Dodge Raider, Sawzall Roadster Edition

Even after the Mitsubishi Overlords began selling vehicles under their own badging in North America in the early 1980s, Chrysler continued selling those very same vehicles with Dodge, Plymouth, Eagle, and Chrysler emblems. One of these machines didn’t stay on sale for long, but captured the hearts of a devoted American following: the Dodge Raider, […] The post appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Big on Base Models? The 2021 Chevrolet Colorado Is Not the Truck for You

The Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon gain visual refreshes for 2021, but the updates foisted upon General Motors’ midsize twins won’t win over those who enjoy keeping their pickup expenditures to a bare minimum. Junkyard Find: 1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic LS Brougham

For better than three decades, Chevrolet sold Americans full-sized sedans with angular lines and — in most cases— V8 engines. Beginning in 1959 (or even earlier, depending on how strict you are about the definition of “angular”), a big rear-drive Chevy box sedan was the most mainstream American motor vehicle… and that came to an […] The post Junkyard Find: 1989 Chevrolet Caprice Classic LS Brougham appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Uraling to Slumgullion Pass and visiting the Alferd Packer Massacre Site

Friday, Jun 5Martha had decided to wait till Saturday to rejoin me here in the Wupperman Campground near Lake City, CO.  This meant I had the day to myself, so of course, some riding was involved.Easy riding today, it was all paved highway, nicely paved highway too.  CO Hwy 149 is in good condition and lightly traveled.  I rode Fiona out of the campground on Hinsdale County Road 30 until it junctioned with CO Hwy 149 and I turned south.I made a quick stop along the way at the Lake San Cristobal ...

Saturday, May 30Another good day of camping and Uraling.Martha and I rode out on Fiona, my '99 Ural Patrol with the Beemer engine soon after a sumptuous breakfast.  We headed towards nearby Leadville with temperatures in the low 50s but bearable with our riding gear and layers underneath.Gassing up in town, then we headed north on Colorado Highway 91 towards Fremont Pass and the Climax Mine located near there. Martha and I drove Umarang, the URRV, out to Turquoise Lake yesterday.  About three and a half hours and we were free of the cesspool that is the Metro Denver area.  Probably could have made it here in three hours but construction on the I-70 Superslab slowed things to a crawl several times. After a brief mis-routing by googlemaps, we finally found the right entry road to a dispersed camping area near Turquoise Lake, about five miles east of Leadville, CO.Found ourselves a pretty good spot though...
