2019 Mazda3: Two Flavors & Plenty of Extras

The 2019 Mazda3 comes in two styles, sedan and hatchback. A manual transmission is available in certain combinations. The list of connectivity and safety features is impressive.  Mazda keeps cranking these little guys out and it’s easy to see why. The Mazda3 is the best-selling car for the Japanese brand. I know, that’s kind of sad. I was hoping for the Miata, but it’s not a sports car world I’m afraid. So what makes the 2019 Mazda3 so hot? The usual stuff for Mazda: value and lots of goodies ...

2018 Mazda 6 Signature Review – Serenity And Soul

Concept Cars That Never Made It: Vol. 1

Concept Cars That Never Made It is a five-part series that documents production concept automobiles from years and eras ago. Some are bewildering, while others are beautiful, and the only thing common between them is the fact that somewhere down the line, these concepts remained just figments of imagination and creative spirit, and never saw the light of day.Bertone Lancia Stratos HF Zero (1970) Probably the most fitting concept to begin this series with, the Lancia Stratos Zero was debuted for ...

2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF: The Bruno Mars of Sports Cars

Mazda has finally gotten around to telling us what the price will be for the latest MX-5 Miata RF. Selling My 2004 Mazda MX-5 Miata Was Remarkably Difficult, and Also Remarkably Easy

There comes a point in the lives of most MX-5 owners when an inevitable question is asked. How do you solve a problem like Miata? In my case – which is similar to many Miata owners, at least according to Miata lore – the Mazda itself is certainly not the problem. Open Diff: Those we’ve left behind

Ford’s 1990 Taurus SHO. Photo courtesy of Ford Motor Company. Recently, Ford announced it was turning its back on automobiles in North America to focus on trucks, crossovers, and SUVs. The Mustang soldiers on, accompanied by the new, built-in-China Focus Active, Ford’s answer to the wildly successful Subaru Crosstrek. Aside from that, it appears as if the Taurus is dead, the Fusion is dead, and the rest of the Focus line (including the enthusiast-oriented Focus RS and Focus ST) is – you guessed...

Could The Mazda Miata Outpace One of History’s Greatest Muscle Cars?

We here at Automoblog are good pals with these guys at RealMazdaParts.com. I’m not sure exactly how they do it, but every so often they ask hilarious questions and put out some highly entertaining infographics. In this case: Could a 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata outrun a 1970 Chevelle 454 SS? The answer, if you think about it, is actually pretty obvious, but it does also lead us to consider that our heroes of old were not that heroic. The short answer is yes, a new Miata is “faster” than a Chevelle 454 ...

The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata, Now With Moar Powerr

One of the oft-heard criticisms of Mazda’s fabulous Miata is that it lacks power. That’s a valid viewpoint, sure, but Mazda has slowly been addressing it, with the latest version putting out 151 ponies. Not bad for something that tips the scales at 2,300 lbs. It could get even better though, and it has gotten better. Much better as a matter of fact. The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata comes with a thoroughly tweaked powertrain with 17 percent more power and even greater fuel efficiency. Slim Fast Strateg...

Jeff Koch’s recent piece Arigato and sayonara, Mazda-san struck a nerve with many of you who lamented letting “that car” slip away. We’ve all been there, and whether it’s four wheels or two (or even a keel, perhaps), the regret afterward is no less painful. On the flip side of that coin, Hemmings Daily reader Scott Stamper proposed a different topic: What vehicle did you own that you never bonded...

QOTD: The Last of the Fun, Attainable Sports Cars?

Judging from a quick perusal of Twitter, 98 percent of auto journos eat, sleep, and work behind the wheel a Mazda MX-5 Miata, and the remaining 2 percent daily drive a bizarre French car or perhaps some 1970s Saab. Zoom-Zoom: Mazda MX-5 Gets More Power and a Higher Redline for 2019

Affectionately known as the Miata, Mazda’s MX-5 roadster is a throwback to an era when fun cars were simple. A Review of the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, Part 2

(This is our review of the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF, Part Two. For Part One, click here.) Design Notes: Exterior This is subjective, of course, but to me the Miata's exterior stylists were a little too influenced by the Corvette. The '89 Miata was shaped like a used bar of soap, and I still cling to that as the aesthetic ideal; it was the original Miata's spiritual similarity to old British roadsters that initially drew my eye. Design Notes: Interior/UX This is where we'll focus the majority of t...

2018 Mazda MX-5 RF on ice

Never one to miss out on an opportunity to have some fun, I decided to take advantage of the recent ice storm in Ontario to do a bit of top down motoring in the 2018 Mazda MX-5 RF. I mean, after I consistently give my colleagues a hard time about driving convertibles with the top up, so I didn’t really have a choice. What I found was that Winter is no match for Mazda’s all season sportster.

2019 Mazda MX-5: More Power and a Steering Wheel That Zooms?

For 2019, Mazda seems ready to offer two things MX-5 Miata buyers have long demanded: more power, plus a steering wheel that reaches towards the driver, instead of just tilting. These are big changes for a model where every minor detail is fussed over by engineers and enthusiasts alike. 2018 Mazda MX-5 RF Goes Nationwide

The 2018 Mazda MX-5 RF (better known as the new “Miata” with the trick roof) will finally hit dealers across the nation by the end of this month. I’ve actually seen two of these little guys in the past week up here in the Pacific Northwest, and I have to say they’re quite attractive, especially when in motion. This also gives Miata, er, MX-5 fans something they have long been slavering for: a coupe option. Say What? I never really understood this, but when I was living in San Francisco, the lo...

2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata Gets Dark Cherry Top, Adds More Goodies

Well, that’s an interesting option. Mazda just added a bunch of stuff to their new MX-5, but the one they’re making the biggest deal about is how there’s a new color available for the soft top. For some reason, they thought red (okay Dark Cherry) would be a good color to go with. It doesn’t immediately strike me as a great idea, but the more I look at it, the more it seems to work.
