Tesla’s Balloon Bursts in Q1; Deliveries Impress No One

Following a rocky first quarter of 2019, Tesla’s decidedly lackluster production and delivery report sent the automaker’s stock tumbling in pre-market trading. Not only were analyst estimates missed, in some cases by a mile, production actually fell at Tesla’s Fremont, California assembly plant, sparking concern that demand is drying up for the company’s EV offerings. Tesla first-quarter deliveries drop on challenges shipping Model 3 overseas

Tesla delivered 63,000 of its electric vehicles in the first quarter of the year, nearly a one-third drop from the previous quarter, the company reported late Wednesday. Tesla cautioned that it expects first-quarter profits to be negatively impacted by lower than expected delivery volumes and several pricing adjustments. Deliveries included about 50,900 Model 3 vehicles and 12,100 Model S and X SUVs. Tesla said despite the challenges that it “ended the quarter with sufficient cash on hand.” Tesl...

Tesla Raises Prices, Eliminates Maintenance Plans, Claims EVs Are Too Reliable

Over the weekend, Tesla CEO Elon Musk asked the world to “please note” that prices on all Tesla inventory would rise by about 3 percent on April 1st. Tesla Model 3 Mid Range Fades From View

First, it faded from the automaker’s ordering page — a disappearance noted on Sunday. Introduced last October as a cheaper stepping stone to the Model 3 lifestyle (and a sort-of apology for the then-undelivered $35,000 Standard Range), Tesla’s Mid Range variant offered 260 miles of driving range, compared to the 310 miles available to Model […] The post Tesla Model 3 Mid Range Fades From View appeared first on The Truth About Cars.

Tesla Model Y orders are now open

Customers can already place an order for the Tesla Model Y, a mid-sized crossover SUV that won’t go into production until 2020. Tesla requires a $2,500 deposit to complete the order for the all-electric vehicle, according to information posted on its website. A disclaimer on the order form states that “production is expected to begin late next year.” Under that timeline, deliveries wouldn’t begin until late 2020 or possibly early 2021. There are other clues on the order page, including that t...

With $35k Model 3 Finally Available, Tesla’s Musk Warns of a Financial Rough Patch

Is the long-awaited, stripped-down $35,000 Tesla Model 3 profitable? Tesla’s $35K Model 3 Arrives Fashionably Late

The $35,000 Model 3 is here. Fittingly, perhaps, it’s three years late. Polestar unveils its all-electric response to the Tesla Model 3

Volvo’s standalone electric performance brand Polestar introduced Wednesday its first all-electric vehicle — a five-door fastback that is gunning for the Tesla Model 3. In the case of Polestar 2, it’s unclear if it will be the “Tesla killer.” It’s possible that an entir...

Tesla Model 3 loses Consumer Reports recommendation over ‘reliability problems’

Consumer Reports has placed the Tesla Model 3 into that fun-to-drive, terribly unreliable category where brands like Alfa Romeo, Land Rover and Masterati also live. Consumer Reports, which has a complicated relationship with Tesla, says it can no longer recommend the Model 3 because issues with the paint, trim and body hardware raises reliability questions. CR members reported the results in an annual reliability survey that includes data on about 470,000 vehicles. The report caused Tesla ...
