Harley-Davidson and Workers Come to An Agreement

A 5-Year Deal Harley-Davidson was able to ratify a contract with workers for the next five years. This deal secures a 14 percent raise over the five-year period for the workers in Milwaukee and Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Additional perks for the workers include a signing bonus, two different variable incentive plans, pension upgrades, and a retirement incentive. That sounds like a heck of a deal for the workers. The deal covers around 1,000 Wisconsin workers, according to Reuters. All of this comes a...

Finally: The definitive movie about the custom moto scene

We’re surprised it’s taken so long. The ‘alt moto’ movement has been on fire for at least a decade, but it’s never made the jump onto the big screen. Oil In The Blood is the first film to catalog the builders, riders and artists who are driving the scene forward. It’s directed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts, a founding member of the Bike Shed club in London and the possessor of an unfeasibly large Rolodex. Gareth knows everybody in the business—and the cast list feels like a Who’s Who of the ...

Harley-Davidson bets its future on the LiveWire electric motorcycle

It’s been a four-year wait since Harley Davidson first showed off a concept electric motorcycle. Now, the production-ready bike — called the Harley-Davidson Livewire — is finally here. Well, almost. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based company unveiled the production-ready electric motorcycle Tuesday at the EICMA motorcycle show in Italy. It won’t be available though until next year. Harley is placing a big bet on electrification in hopes that it will revive the brand, which has struggled in recent y...

Boondocking again and Uraling to Bent's Old Fort

I've been boondocking since Wednesday of this week, in the Hugo State Wildlife Area again.  This time in the middle campsite which I think is my favorite though it has the least strong cellular data signal.  I actually had to erect the antenna for the weboost cellphone booster. Not much to report till today, Saturday, just highly enjoyable solitude (except for cows) and the silence of the Colorado prairie.Wednesday:  Uma, the URRV, nestled in the trees A mild sunset along County Road 2G ...

Three Sunsets

Here's a bunch of sunset pics from three good sessions since I returned from the URRV trip to Wisconsin and back.   August 27: Today, I rode Brigitta about 70 miles, giving her some extended exercise to make sure the previous day's maintenance didn't break something else.  I'm glad to report she's doing great. The day's riding finished with the final set of sunset pics for this posting: It's the Labor Day Weekend, hope you have a good one and get some ...

Riding with Coopdway

Today, I had the absolute pleasure to go on a 100+ mile ride with Coop, aka Doug.  He's a fellow moto-blogger who lives in the country, perhaps 57 miles or so from his work in the city of Minneapolis. We met up at 9AM as arranged and soon he was leading the way through some really nice winding roads, with many twist and turns at times, dips and climbs and all this while surrounded by the lush and verdant foliage that is this part of Wisconsin!Temperatures were fine for most of the day, it did get...

Coffee with Coopdway, a family reunion and a smoky sunset

Friday was mostly spent driving from west of Des Moines, IA to Holmen, WI.  Not much to report, parked the URRV in the side portion of my FIL's yard in Holmen.Martha flew in late and joined up with us shortly before midnight.Saturday.  Busy day today. A foggy morning in the Holmen, WI area Left my FIL's house at 6:30 AM to ride north along US Highway after picking it up at Winona, WI and once again being in Minnesota.  You ride on the west side of the great Mississippi River but fog would bloc...

Boondocking at Badger Creek State Park, IA, day 2

Such a nice location and having the time, I decided to stay an extra day.The dawn's colors were not bad: This allowed me, thanks to Martha for the reminder, that I was a short distance from the small town of Winterset.  It's where John Wayne, one of my favorite actors of all time, was born and the town has a museum there dedicated to the site and some memorabilia.  Back in 2013, on a road trip to Wisconsin (deja vu) and the first time towing my rig (deja vu again), we had stopped by this muse...

Boondocking in Western Nebraska

Yesterday, Monday the 13th, I started driving Uma, the URRV, pulling Scarlett on the trailer, headed to Wisconsin for Martha's family reunion this coming weekend.Martha will, due to work, fly out on Friday and I'll meet her in Holmen, WI.After almost 7 hours of driving, didn't get very far.  Made it to the vicinity of the town of Hershey, NE and found a nice boondocking spot at the East Sutherland WMA or Wildlife Management Area. There's a lot of these WMAs strung along the I-80 Super Slab.  Thou...

Four-Links – LOMEX, Talbot ownership disputed, Ferrari dispute settled, V-12 Lincoln

Robert Moses had all sorts of grand plans for Manhattan’s road network, none grander than the Lower Manhattan Expressway (LOMEX). However, as Curbed pointed out in this 2016 article, the efforts of activist Jane Jacobs, concerned about the devastating effect LOMEX would have on Manhattan’s diverse neighborhoods, derailed those plans for good. (via) * Who owns a vehicle stolen decades ago and since restored, sold and sold again? Wisconsin’s courts system is now tasked with determining the right...

As it apparently has become a pattern, here's some sunset pics from August 5 through 9. Getting ready for another RV trip, this time to the land of Cheeseheads: Wisconsin to attend Martha's family reunion on the 18th.In the interval between trips, there's chores around the house, stuff that needs fixing, paperwork to be done about insurance and auto loan matters, and simply relaxing a bit at home. Here's some sunsets, I hope you like them.August 5: August 7: August 9: ...

Coast To Coast: New Interactive Map Shows How America’s Interstates Evolved

Like many, I enjoy a good road trip. Twice a year, I make the 900 some mile trek from Michigan to South Dakota to see family – once in the summer and once in the winter for Christmas. It’s 14 hours of pavement and music from my personal CD collection which includes everything from country to indie rock. I take a long stretch on I-90 through Wisconsin and Minnesota, which offers some nice views of America’s heartland. I-90, end to end, is about 3,000 miles, or around six percent of the nearly 50,...

The Great Escape - Day 16: Last full day in Vancouver

July 5Didn't get to do any touristy stuff, though Martha and her friend Sue got in a visit to a park while I had to do work.We did go and find the H.K. BBQ Master dining establishment that I'd been introduced to by Bobskoot and Yvonne back in 2013 when I was last in Vancouver. They make this Roast Pork that is just as good as my Mom's cooking.  The owner and chef has won many awards for his cooking as well.  We got lunch here this time, Martha, Sue and I. We missed you Bob, here's a pic of Bob a...

A Hint to Harley: Noise Cycles’ Street Rod flat tracker

If you like weaving through city traffic during the week, and then blasting through the twisties on your days off, the Street Rod is probably the best Harley for you. We found it to be surprisingly sharp and agile, with a warmed-up version of the regular Street engine delivering 69 frisky horses. Scott Jones of Noise Cycles likes the Street Rod. And his new ‘XG750R’ tracker version has got us wondering what a factory Harley tracker would look like—if Milwaukee decided to counter the threat po...

10 Reasons to Oppose Red-Light Cameras

The National Motorists Association (NMA) opposes red-light cameras for many reasons. Tome, Trek, Ford Collaborate on Bike-to-Vehicle Safety Standards

Last fall, Royal Oak, MI-based software startup Tome teamed up with Ford and Wisconsin’s Trek to work on B2V (bike-to-vehicle) technology that will help self-driving cars to better perceive cyclists on the road. Tome CEO Jake Sigal, a passionate cyclist who spends much of his free time biking, says teaching cars to see and anticipate cyclists, who behave very differently from pedestrians, is one of the toughest computer vision problems to crack. That’s why Tome, Trek, and Ford have launch...

However, the newly elected president of the 66-year-old collector-car institution rejects the idea that the club should expand its definitions of Full Classics to do so. “There’s a fair amount of members who would like to see us go beyond 1948,” she said. “And that’s not so much because what makes this period of design important extends past ...

During the middle 1990s, Volkswagen partnered with Wisconsin bicycle manufacturer Trek and sold Trek Edition Jettas, complete with a Trek mountain bike and roof rack.
