How to Build Your Personal Brand as a Freelancer

This article has been contributed by Diana Adjadj. Have you checked the latest figures on the freelance workforce? It’s getting very crowded out there. According to the latest figures by Statista, there are almost 60 million independent workers in the U.S. alone. This is impressive considering that the gig economy was virtually non-existent just a decade ago. Now, the number of freelancers is projected to reach more than 90 million in less than a decade. On top of that, the annual increase in th...

Anthony Davis speaks on the inspiration he's drawn from Derrick Rose

Anthony Davis is one of a handful of Chicago products participating in the city's first All-Star weekend in over three decades. Davis, an Englewood native, attended Perspectives High School for four years - far from a household program in the illustrious realm of Chicago basketball (he remains the school's only graduate to reach the NBA and one of three to go Division 1). Davis said that, growing up in the city, one of his biggest inspirations was Derrick Rose.

Aaron Gordon dunks over 7-5 Tacko Fall, somehow still robbed of Dunk Contest win

Aaron Gordon cannot catch a break in an All-Star Dunk Contest dunk-off. In the best Dunk Contest since 2016 — when Gordon controversially lost in a dunk-off to Zach LaVine — Gordon lost another dunk-off, this time despite dunking over 7'5″ Tacko Fall for the final dunk of the night. “Jumping over somebody 7'5″ [note: without shoes] and dunking is no easy feat,” Gordon said, stating the obvious.

NBA players 'enjoy' Steph Curry being out, says Giannis Antetokounmpo

For five years, Steph Curry and the Warriors ran roughshod over the NBA, reaching five consecutive NBA Finals and putting together the league's greatest regular season ever with 73 wins in 2016. The 2019-20 season has not gone quite the same for Golden State, as Curry remains out since suffering a broken hand on Oct. 30, while the Warriors now own the league's worst record at the All-Star break. It's safe to say players around the NBA haven't exactly sympathized with the orga...

The NBA dunk contest was highly controversial

People are very upset about the NBA dunk contest. The Miami Heat's Derrick Jones Jr. won the event Saturday during the NBA's All-Star Weekend, outlasting the Orlando Magic's Aaron Gordon, but the victory came with a lot of controversy. After advancing to the final, Jones and Gordon each received perfect scores, and they did so again during the first dunk-off, setting up a second tie-breaker.

Walker, Nelson-Ododa lead No. 5 UConn over USF 67-47

South Florida's Jose Fernandez is puzzled by the chatter about the struggles of the UConn women's basketball team this season. Megan Walker scored 21 points and Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 20, helping the 11-time national champions, who had lost two of their previous three games, shrug off a slow start to improve to 30-0 all-time against Fernandez's team. Despite UConn's dominance of the seven-year-old league, Fernandez enjoys competing against the Huskies and has developed a c...

Clippers’ Pat Beverley lives childhood dream at All-Star weekend in hometown

CHICAGO — Patrick Beverley is nothing if not ambitious. On Saturday morning, sitting on a dais for the first All-Star Game in his hometown in 32 years, Beverley laid out two of the goals that he reputedly scribbles down on Post-Its at his L.A. home – a long-term one, and one for the short-term. “First, being an NBA champion,” he said. “But first, right now, being a skills champion.” The short-term goal turned out to be short-lived: Beverley did not survive the first round of the NBA Skills Chall...

Bubba Watson plays round with Justin Bieber after Genesis MC

Bubba Watson has always been about that celebrity life. Two years ago in Los Angeles he was arguably more excited to play in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game than in the Genesis Open. He went on to get viciously rejected by Tracy McGrady in limited court action, and a couple days later he lifted the trophy for a third time at Riviera Country Club.

Aaron Gordon got robbed. At the conclusion of the best NBA All-Star Saturday night Dunk Contest in years, Orlando's Aaron Gordon jumped over 7'5″ — without shoes — Tacko Fall, and still got a 47 score that cost him the contest to Derrick Jones Jr. “Jumping over somebody 7'5″ [note: without shoes] and dunking is no easy feat,” Gordon said, stating the obvious. He was the youngest All-Star in league history, ranks second with 18 selections and took game MVP honors a record-tying four times, including on his home court in 2011 when he dazzled with 37 points and 14 rebounds. All-Star weekend, as expected, was about honoring Kobe

It has become one of the NBA's most revered traditions: On the morning of the NBA All-Star Game, the league pays tribute to retired players with what is called the Legends Brunch. When the game was in Los Angeles two years ago, the NBA wanted to honor Kobe Bryant. “That said, to us, everything about his priorities,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said Sunday as he recalled that conversation with Bryant.
