adding value with teams

In working collaboratively & learning cooperatively I noted that team collaboration requires the transparent sharing of knowledge — using enterprise social networks and other technologies — so that everyone on a team knows what is going on and why. Decisions, and why they were made, are shared. New processes and methods are co-developed to create emergent practices. This method of work has to be supported by management by enabling — innovative and contextual methods, the self-selection of the mo...

Real Leaders Have Vision Others Share Willingly

It’s not often that the day I normally release a blog article is the same day as an important date in history. It’s that day now, as it’s the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack on the United States. Over 3,000 lives were lost on that day and many more over time to things […]

How to Generate Signals that Matter to Early Stage Investors

Photo by Chinh Le Duc on Unsplash   Build a strong team with direct and relevant reputation.   To be clear, names alone don’t matter as much as the relevance of the team members to the challenge facing your business. Example: Selling SAAS to enterprise? Have someone on the team that has a track record of successfully growing revenue within a well known enterprise SAAS startup. As an investor I care who is on your team because it means A) other skilled people are also buying into what you’re...

Marketing companies know the power of creating the right product names, which is why millions of dollars are poured into branding. Get the name ...

Should you seek passion or duty at work? (Pssst: The answer is passion).

In an opinion pice in the New York Times, professor Firmin DeBrabrander argues that you should not approach work as your passion but as your duty. Looking for passion at work, he says, will make you stressed and is bound to fail anyway. I think that’s complete nonsense! I know – what a shocker :) But worst of all it’s poorly reasoned nonsense that relies on a string of terrible arguments and deliberate ignorance of the research in the field. Here are the top 5 fails from DeBrarander’s article an...

I’m keynoting the Authors and Innovators Business Ideas Festival on 10/24/19 at the UMASS campus in Newton, MA. As a writer, I’m excited to see events like this happening. So, while we won’t be together (she’ll be in Wellesley and I’ll be in Newton), we’ll be near each other. The event is free so if it’s interesting to you, register here. The...

Laser cutting stainless steel sheet metal in the UK

Laser cutting stainless steel nests Laser cutting stainless steel sheet metal whether it’s coated or plain is no problem when you have a Trumpf 3030 fibre laser machine. Plain stainless steel laser cuts beautifully with a clean edge and very little burring. Thin gauges can simply be cut with compressed air and thicker gauges with pure nitrogen. When laser cutting stainless steel with a protective peelable plastic film a slightly different technique is needed. The laser cutter is programmed to m...
