Persian book festival coming to IrvineFebruary 11, 2019 at 7:35 PM When Bahareh Hedayat wanted to find immersion classes in Persian language and culture for her young children, she couldn’t find any close to home.
So the Irvine resident created her own language immersion and cultural center.
The non-profit, Bahar Kids, now is gearing to host its second annual Persian Children’s Book Festival on Feb. 24.

Like Forbes Offers Reasons to Avoid Reverse MortgagesFebruary 11, 2019 at 5:36 PM There are at least four major reasons that potential borrowers should avoid taking a reverse mortgage, according to economics professor Teresa Ghilarducci of The New School based in New York, N.Y. in a new column at Forbes. While admitting that reverse mortgages may work for some, she says that is not true of everyone. However, at least one reverse mortgage expert finds flaws in the reasoning behind some of the stated points.
The first of her stated reasons to avoid reverse mortgages revolves...Tags: New York, Featured, Education, Finance, Data, Forbes, New School, Teresa Ghilarducci, John Lunde, Lunde, The New School, Reverse Market Insight, Ghilarducci, Forbes While 49 people like this. Like The L.A. teacher strike may be over, but observers warn there’s no ‘clear path forward’ for how LAUSD can afford its new contractFebruary 11, 2019 at 2:28 PM By Taylor Swaak | LA School Report
The L.A. Unified school board has approved a contract with its teachers union that officials admit they can’t fully afford, calling the deal’s sustainability into question as the district receives repeated warnings from the county that it’s in severe financial straits.
To shoulder about $840 million in added costs through 2021, district officials say they’re largely relying on more state funding and a 2020 California tax referendum — neither of which are guaran...Tags: News, Education, California, Los Angeles, Sport, Soccer, Aclu, Lausd, Jim Morris, Johnson, Local News, Smith, Usc, Gavin Newsom, Morris, Legislative 135 people like this. Like March of the robotsFebruary 11, 2019 at 6:15 AM Photo by Steve Wheeler Anyone who has ever attended the BETT Show will tell you it is vast, chaotic and very commercial. The latter is inevitable, because BETT is a free-entry event, and someone has to pay to make sure the four day education show happens. BETT was bigger than ever this year, with more vendors and more visitors, overspilling into an additional space across the corridor from the usual trade show venue. As I wandered around the show this year, skilfully sidestepping the min...Tags: Programming, Technology, Learning, Education, Teachers, Robots, Schools, eLearning, Classroom, Bett, Steve Wheeler, Plymouth England, BETT2019, VEX Robotics, Seymour Papert Mitch Resnick 110 people like this. But how many of us know that both of those owe their considerable popularity to the same man? After studying architecture, interior decoration, and carpentry, the German industrial designer Dieter Rams spent 40 years at Braun, most of them as the company's chief design officer. There he created such hits as the 606 universal shelving system, the SK61 record player, and the ET66 calculat...Tags: Apple, Google, Design, College, Netflix, Brian Eno, Seoul, Saul Bass, Braun, Dieter Rams, Facebook Twitter, Rams, Paola Antonelli, Colin Marshall, Gary Hustwit, 21st Century Los Angeles 46 people like this.
