LA County, city, school-district sites gear up for Monday’s massive new wave of vaccine-seekers

With an estimated 1.2 million more people eligible for coronavirus vaccines on Monday, March 1, Los Angeles County will operate with its largest-ever infrastructure for delivering the sought-after inoculations this week. But health officials said residents will have to be patient while vaccine supplies remain thin and sporadic, and while staff are being trained to tighten up procedures to ensure only eligible people receive shots. County health officials expressed hope that conditions will impro...

LA County officials have harsh words for coronavirus vaccine inequity – and line-jumping cheaters

Just one week away from expanding eligibility for the coronavirus vaccine by up to 1.8 million people, Los Angeles County officials are worried the online system required by the state to book appointments will continue to pose challenges in communities hit hardest by the pandemic. Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Hilda Solis said on Tuesday, Feb. 23, that she was “not surprised,” but nonetheless “disgusted” by certain people using any means necessary to obtain vaccine doses. “I can tell you I was...

L.A. County strives to step up vaccines, but seniors told they’ll have to wait until February

Public health officials worked to clarify Los Angeles County’s coronavirus timetable on Thursday, Jan. 14, as many seniors found themselves confused over when exactly they could sign up for a vaccine — and why they must wait, likely for another month, for those  shots — after Gov. Gavin Newsom said on Wednesday they could get them immediately. Another 287 people, meanwhile, lost their lives to the outbreak, officials announced. Despite the governor’s announcement on widening vaccine delivery, th...

While both directives did not deviate enormously from typical standards of care, they came as a precursor to possibly more instructions for health care providers to begin rationi...

LA County eases coronavirus rules, allows breweries and wineries to open with food

Los Angeles County has officially revised its coronavirus health order, authorizing breweries and wineries that don’t have their own food kitchens to reopen for outdoor sit-down service if they partner with a caterer or food truck. The revised language includes some peculiar requirements such as purchasing alcohol with food in the same transaction, and customers must make a “prior reservation for a table at least one day in advance.” The news was nonetheless welcomed among the roughly 70 breweri...
