Amateur radio magazines are dead. Long live amateur radio “magazines!”

73 magazine was one of the magazines I grew up reading. Note that it cost only 60 cents. Recently the item The decline of ham radio magazines appeared on /r/amateurradio. The OP (original poster) wrote: Over the last several years it has become impossible to purchase ham radio magazines in the local book store. National chains or local mom and pop shops, it does not matter. Talking with the managers brings black hole stares to rival the students in Ferris Bueller’s classroom. Yet model railroa...

‘I Am Not Okay With This’ is a New Series About a Super-powered Girl From ‘Stranger Things’ Producers Coming To Netflix

Years ago, Netflix admitted that they use analytics to determine which shows to greenlight, and it seems as if their algorithms were working overtime to find the best fit between producers and subject matter for their newest announcement. The producers of Stranger Things are returning to the streaming service with a show called I Am Not Okay With This, an adaptation of a comic book about a teen girl with telekinetic powers. (Does that description sound familiar?) Oh, and the creator of Netflix’...

Should Vegan Food Options Be Mandatory at Movie Theaters? Los Angeles Thinks So

Will providing a vegan food option at movie theaters in Los Angeles help save the planet? City councilman Paul Koretz thinks so, and he has the data to back him up. Citing several studies that draw a connection between the production of animal products and the negative effects of climate change, Koretz has introduced a motion that would require large entertainment venues, city parks, airport restaurants, and movie theaters to require vegan options for customers. According to a local CBS affil...

‘Aquaman’ Director James Wan Pitched a ‘Blade’ Reboot (But He Can’t Remember What It Was)

The Conjuring director James Wan is making his first foray into superhero movies this month with Aquaman. But long before he dove under the sea with Jason Momoa, Wan hoped to make a completely different superhero picture: a Blade reboot. Wan revealed his hopes to reboot Blade in a recent interview, but also clarified that this happened so long ago he can’t really remember what the idea was. It’s very strange that in this era of non-stop Marvel movies, we’ve yet to receive official word on a ...

Taylor Swift used facial recognition tech at concerts to spy on stalkers

Taylor Swift used facial recognition technology at her live performances so that technicians running the system could then check those face scans against a private database of her stalkers. The company that provided the scanning and analysis service appears to be this event counterterrorism division of Oak View Group, which has received a fair amount of press. Part of the reason they've been in the press so much: all the deadly attacks at big entertainment events around the world lately. The...

Comedians React To Michael Cohen’s Prison Sentence

Thank you, next OK...it happened. The shit is hitting the fan, probably. Donald Trump’s personal lawyer and “fixer” was sentenced to 3 years in prison (that’s 36 months, 1095 days and 1,576,800 minutes). Honestly, not so bad for commiting nine felonies, including a criminal scheme to help Donald Trump win the 2016 election. But before he gets into some Orange Is The New Black-style wacky hijinks, comedians took to Twitter after the news broke to make some jokes of their own. Huge cong...

Russell Brand’s “Re:Birth” Is Exactly What We’ve Been Waiting For

He’s back and better than ever Having performed since the nineties, English comedian Russell Brand is no stranger to the stand-up scene. Since then he has become a prominent figure in the public eye - not only as a stand-up comic but also as a television host, actor, radio personality, author, and (perhaps most notably over the last decade) activist....

Marvel Netflix Shows Are Restricted From Moving to Disney+ For 2 Years

If you were hoping Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the rest of the Marvel Netflix shows might be migrating over to Disney+, I have some bad news. The shows are prohibited from moving to any other service for at least two years following cancellation, which means should Disney+ want to bring any of these series over, they wouldn’t be able to do so until at least 2020. When Iron Fist, Luke Cage and then Daredevil were cancelled by Netflix, many – including this very site! – theorized that ...
