News Post: Reef Madness

Tycho: A couple weeks ago, very late at night, I started getting texts from Greef that followed a pattern like this: This picture of him is from when I first got the original iPhone and you could take pictures and attach them to people.  They were heady days.  He has a lot more hair now, and not just on his face.  Wherever I don’t have hair, he has the maximum amount of hair.  If he takes off his shirt, it just looks like he’s wearing another, different shirt. Yeah, so, I get these pictur...

Hataage! Kemono Michi Episode 11 Impression

On this episode, Genzo prepares his team to face against Mao's team for the upcoming pro wrestling event. Later, the pro wrestling action begins. Joanna's know-it-all misunderstanding of Mao's actions is getting even more funny and maybe meme-ish. Also, it was pretty cool to see Genzo prepare and recruit his team. Other than that, the pro wrestling action is really cool and especially how Altena gets randomly involved in it. Now what's going to happen next? I definitely can't wait for the final...

Jennifer Hudson Just Revealed She Has 26 Siblings: “I’m the Youngest or at Least in the Last Two or Three”

Jennifer Hudson had to portray a cat in her upcoming film Cats, but we didn’t know that her own family is like a whole litter of cats. Because the trailer for the classic Broadway show turned film is strange and off-putting, to say the least, Hudson and its other stars are doing the most to make it interesting while on the promo tour. During a recent in-depth interview with The Guardian, Hudson dropped the bombshell that she has 26 siblings! No exaggeration, she has twenty-six brothers and siste...

Operating Notes: New radio! 80m DX! Answering CW CQs

So, I now have a new radio—a Flex 6400. I quite like it so far, but it does have some quirks. For example, even though you need to connect it to a PC running some SDR software, you can’t get a CW sidetone through the PC speakers. You can hear the received signal, just not the CW sidetone when you’re transmitting. To hear the sidetone, you have to connect either an amplified speaker or headphones to the appropriate jacks on the back of the radio. I’ve only been using the radio for a couple of we...

Tanpopo-free Life

In Oresuki, the anime about meta-4th-walling romantic polygonal turned actual plot, the characters all have nicknames from different flowers. The flowery names take on literary significance both as summaries of the character concepts respectively, but also for fun and jokes. There is also a flower language layer in which is both in-universe and in interpreting the theme. What I really want to talk about is Japan and its view of the Dandelion, or Tanpopo. This flower gets romanticized a l...

Harry Styles eats sperm on camera

It’s a day we didn’t ask for; it’s a day we still don’t particularly want. But it’s a day we have. Today we can watch Harry Styles eat sperm. And while the idea might spark intrigue out of context, there’s really nothing tantalizing about the reality. The sperm in question came from a fish — cod, to be specific. Filling in for James Corden as host of The Late Late Show, Styles welcomed his ex-girlfriend, Kendall Jenner, to play a game of “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.” AdBridg.cmd.push(fu...

Psychology behind the unfunny consequences of jokes that denigrate

Q: Why did the woman cross the road? A: Who cares! What the hell is she doing out of the kitchen? Q: Why hasn't NASA sent a woman to the moon? A: It doesn't need cleaning yet! These two jokes represent disparagement humor – any attempt to amuse through the denigration of a social group or its representatives. You know it as sexist or racist jokes – basically anything that makes a punchline out of a marginalized group. Disparagement humor is paradoxical: It simultaneously communicat...
