Detective Comics #518 - Don Newton art

Detective Comics v1 #518, 1982 - Batman recovers from a previous battle, Vicki Vale closes in on his secret identity, and Deadshot returns for another assassination attempt. As usual, Newton's splash page is superbly drawn and composed. From there, his illustrations begin to atrophy under Bruce Patterson's inks. The execution is stiff and confining, taking out the spontaneity of the original [Author: Ted Ignacio]

This month’s new media recommendations are all podcasts; although, there is some other media types to check out in my 2019 wrapup. Dr. Lehmiller has made the rounds discussing his survey about sexual fantasies, but his spot on NPR’s What We Do was one of the best interviews about it, no doubt in part to the skilled host. Another NPR podcast, Planet Money, ventured into the billion-dollar sperm bank industry. Check out this episode of Sex Out Loud featuring Tina Horn, who discusses making comics ...

Trent Reznor Really, Really Hated Working on ‘Bird Box’

Last year, Bird Box became Netflix’s biggest hit movie, setting the streaming giant’s seven-day records and inspiring dangerous memes. The film, which stars Sandra Bullock, takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that has been overrun by monsters that cause people who look directly at them to kill themselves. For a movie that’s all about sight (or lack thereof), Bird Box would have to rely heavily on sound. But one of the key composers behind that sound, Trent Reznor, who composed the Bird Box ...

All Shots of Leia in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Were Pulled From ‘Star Wars’ Movies (Including ‘Return of the Jedi’)

Director and writer J.J. Abrams and his co-writer Chris Terrio had a major obstacle for them going into Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: the deeply felt absence of star Carrie Fisher, who passed away in 2016. The solution to use already-shot footage of Fisher from Star Wars: The Force Awakens was met with some skepticism, but ultimately respect for honoring her memory by not creating a new CGI version of her for the film. But a few shots in The Rise of Skywalker put into question whether Abram...

ComingSoon’s 10 Best Movies of the Decade

ComingSoon’s 10 Best Movies of the Decade The 2010s were a decade of mindblowing films that took us through turbulent times with style and substance. Overall it has been an impressive ten years, and ComingSoon.net is counting down the best of the best...

‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Was Specifically Crafted to Solidify Leia’s Legacy in the Saga

Star Wars: The Force Awakens said goodbye to Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Star Wars: The Last Jedi bid farewell to Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker. So it only makes sense that the late Carrie Fisher gets her own send-off in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and co-writer Chris Terrio confirmed that one of the main goals of the movie – specifically because they had a limited amount of footage to work with from the previous films – was to figure out how to solidify Leia’s legacy in the entire saga an...
