Bofuri Episode 2 Impression

On this episode, Maple participate in a big PvP event. Later, she starts adventuring with Sally. Wow, it was just plain hilarious to see air head Maple somehow counter attack against all of her attackers during the big PvP event. Also, I find it a bit strange to see Sally use a smurf account to join Maple and continue to not reveal her true pro player identity (even though they are friends). Other than that, I wonder if there's going to be ever a "serious main plot" or just a "casual adventure"....

Vintage Science Fiction Month: Inherit the Stars

Vintage SF Month is hosted by the Little Red Reviewer. The objective: Read and discuss "older than I am" Science Fiction in the month of January. Rumor has it that James P. Hogan, disappointed by the ending of Stanley Kubrick's (and I suppose I should also mention Arthur C. Clarke's) 2001: A Space Odyssey, made a bet with his engineer colleagues that he'd write a science fiction novel inspired by some of the ideas he liked in 2001 (presumably he liked the idea of finding something really weird ...

The Dark Tower TV Series Cancelled by Amazon

The Dark Tower TV series cancelled by Amazon Well, this is unfortunate. According to Deadline, Amazon Studios has cancelled its long-in-development series based on Stephen King’s The Dark Tower novels. The studio felt that the series pilot from executive producer/showrunner Glen Mazzara was “not on the level of other large-scope elevated genre series,” such as their upcoming The Lord of the Rings. ‘Mulan’ TV Spot Highlights the Warrior Behind the Myth

We’re not far from reaching Disney live-action remake overload. And yet, the new Mulan can’t help but look promising. Maybe it’s wuxia-style fight choreography. Maybe it’s the fact that this is an action epic and not a musical. But it largely might be because director Niki Caro is eschewing the tired shot-for-shot trend we’ve seen in films like Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King and tackling an adaption of the ancient Chinese poem upon which Mulan is based. In China, Mulan is considered a f...

The value of getting something for nothing

An article by Joe Queenan asked why doctors don’t ever offer freebies. He points out that bartenders customarily buy a free round after your third or fourth drink. And every few weeks his local diner will buy him a coffee and a doughnut. Even my dentist ‘s office always hands me a bag of goodies when I leave — toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, and so on. I know his tongue was firmly planted in his cheek when he wrote the column; he did not really expect his physician to toss him some occasion...

‘Stargirl’ Trailer: The CW Superhero One, Not the Disney+ One

It’s been a confusing day for girls named Stargirl. First, Disney+ releases the trailer for Stargirl, a coming-of-age drama film based on the novel of the same name by Jerry Spinelli. Then the CW follows up with its own Stargirl, a new superhero series about a teenage girl (Brec Bassinger) who discovers latent superpowers. There’s not much in common between the two properties, other than the shared name and that they’re both magical girls (the Disney one being about a classic manic pixie dream ...

Kyonyuu Princess Saimin Disgraces Royalty

An erotic anime with otherworldly hypnotic powers has once again made itself known as Kyonyuu Princess Saimin mentally controls royal princesses and forces them to do sexual things against their will, a fantasy that is apparently absurdly popular, given the frequency of the idea. You Can Now Watch the Full Babu Frik Scene From ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’

While Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been divisive, the one thing about the movie that everyone can agree on is that Babu Frik rules. Now that Rise of Skywalker has been out for a few weeks, Disney has released an official clip featuring Babu Frik in all his frikin’ glory. ‘Guns Akimbo’ Trailer: Daniel Radcliffe Has Guns Bolted to His Hands and Has to Kill an Assassin

In Guns Akimbo, Daniel Radcliffe plays a loser who wakes up with guns physically bolted to his hands (yes, really). Not only that, but his character is tasked with killing an assassin on a live-streamed internet show. Points for originality must go to writer/director Jason Lei Howden for this deranged-looking movie.
