Trailer Round-Up: ‘Clapboard Jungle’, ‘Breaking News in Yuba County’, ‘The Sinners’, ‘Adverse’ & More

Even without a bunch of movies coming to theaters, there are still many trailers to sort through. That’s why every now and then we put a trailer round-up together to call attention to some of the lesser known movies that might be worth seeking out. This time we’ve got a documentary about how difficult it is to get movies made, a dark comedy about a missing husband, another spin on the time loop formula, a prank gone horribly wrong, and more. Clapboard Jungle An emotional and introspect...

The Peter & Ernesto Series

The Peter & Ernesto series by Graham Annable features two sloths who are the best of friends although they’re very different in personality. Ernesto is adventurous, wanting to explore and see new things, while Peter appreciates their home and enjoys the familiar. The sloths have perhaps the most minimal character design ever, being basically tubes with faces and sticks for arms and legs, but Annable’s animation experience gives them a wonderful physicality and sense of motion. The result is a [....

If all goes according to plan, Keanu Reeves could be slipping back into his John Wick suit and murdering nameless henchmen very, very soon. But the coronavirus pandemic has made many such plans obsolete, leaving the shooting schedule of John Wick 4 and 5 up in the air. But according to co-star Ian McShane, filming on John Wick 4 is probably going to start ...

‘WandaVision’ Director Matt Shakman Consulted Dick Van Dyke, Who Is Adorably Clueless About the MCU

Marvel debuted the first two episodes of their new Disney+ series WandaVision this past weekend. The series finds Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) living a literal sitcom marriage in the style of classic TV shows like The Dick Van Dyke Show and Bewitched. Director Matt Shakman perfectly captured the style of those vintage programs, right down to the practical visual effects and the black and white cinematography, and he got some guidance from the perfect resource. Matt...

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was meant to be released last summer, but thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, the movie was pushed back to March 2021, and delayed again to a summer release yet again in June. While we’re still waiting to see what the Ghostbusters sequel will bring to the table with a story set roughly 30 years after the events of the first two movies, director Jason Reitman may have already gotten all the praise he’ll need for the movie from his father, original franchise director Ivan ...

UK Travel Restrictions Now Apply to Film & TV Production Employees

The United Kingdom removed film and television workers from the country’s COVID-inspired travel exemption list today, meaning that anyone who travels to the UK from an outside nation will need to quarantine for 10 days or pay for a private test which could shorten that isolation period to five days. Either way, it sounds like it just got more expensive for Hollywood productions to send international employees into the UK to work. Deadline reports that as of early this morning, two classificat...

‘Luca’ First Look: Pixar’s New Film is Coming-of-Age Riff on ‘The Little Mermaid’

Some of Pixar’s greatest masterpieces come from simple existential questions: What if toys could talk? What if feelings had feelings? What if pre-born souls could walk this Earth? The animation studio’s next film asks a more niche question: What if The Little Mermaid was given a coming-of-age twist? Luca, the vibrant Italian Rivera-set film helmed by La Luna director Enrico Casarosa, answers that latter question with a film that more or less looks like a family-friendly take on Call Me By Your ...

Ask A Mortician reacts to corpses in films

My idea of a good time. Caitlin Doughty of Ask a Mortician rates the accuracy of movie corpses and rates them 1-10 tombstones. In the second half of the video, she also visits a guy who makes animal feed blocks with human cremains in them for people who wish to be eaten by animals (which is otherwise illegal… currently). — Read the rest

‘Young Rock’ Trailer: Dwayne Johnson Shows His “Origin Story” in an NBC Sitcom

Everyone knows the picture: a young Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, looking ripped and sporting a pencil-thin mustache. Surely a picture of the wrestler-turned-actor in his early WWE days, right? Wrong, it’s a 15-year-old Johnson, looking like a full-blown adult who must have terrified the fellow teenagers at his high school. The actor has even joked that his fellow students thought he was an undercover cop. It’s an absurd idea — one that may be absurd enough for a TV show. And it is. Johnson’s chil...
