Free Comic Book Day comics arriving in 2 research libraries

With help and gratitude from Big Planet Comics (Bethesda), Fantom Comics, and Victory Comics, I was able to put together 2 almost complete sets for the Library of Congress and Michigan State University (as well as for myself, natch, because I am a true collector). I delivered the LoC's set yesterday, and am almost ready to mail the other set to MSU.  Both sets are light on five comics - in case there's any other donors out there. And I do have extras if there are any other research libraries l...

Pedro #2 - Wally Wood art

Pedro v2 #2Pedro v1 #2, 1950 - A supporting character from the Judy Canova show, Pedro mostly reinforced Mexican stereotypes of the era. This golden age humor comic was the second of this short-lived series. I've sometimes seen Wally Wood credited with the story "The Flying Trapeze", but was more likely the artist of "The Beeg Bool Thrower". Regardless, the artwork throughout is abysmal, even by [Author: Ted Ignacio]

Every Tim Burton Film Ranked From Worst To Best

Few careers in Hollywood seem as stable, yet somehow still wild, as Tim Burton's. One of the premier genre filmmakers since the '80s, Burton has created some of the most iconic and enduring movies of the last few decades. He has also, perhaps, relied on his keen sense of style at the expense of his stories, leading to a run of films that are beautiful to look at but emotionally empty. When Burton is at his best, his films are bright, creative, imaginative, and almost magical. However, although a...

By Maria Caspani | Reuters NEW YORK – A lawyer for R. Kelly on Wednesday tried to undercut claims by a woman accusing the R&B singer of sexual abuse, by showing letters she wrote to family members in which she accused her parents of selling her out. Attorney Deveraux Cannick asked the woman, known on the witness stand as Jane, to read letters in which she said her parents had suggested she lie to Kelly about her age, and that they tried to benefit financially from her relationship with him. Sci-Fi Shows You Should Watch After Finishing Loki

Our glorious purpose is coming to an end. "Loki" recently finished up its run on Disney+, placing the erstwhile antagonist in a new status quo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Time travel, nexus events, and the Sacred Timeline; "Loki" picked up from the time heist of "Avengers: Endgame" and left the MCU in the right spot for both "Spider-Man: Far from Home," "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," and the aptly-titled "Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness," all of which look like they'll be b...

17 '80s Action Movies You Definitely Need To See

At the 1985 American Business Conference, President Ronald Reagan gunned down a tax increase by quoting Dirty Harry: "Go ahead -- make my day." For better or worse, there are few more iconic intersections of age and genre than the '80s action movie. The PG-13 rating allowed for a whole new audience to enjoy wanton violence at the multiplex. Law enforcement came in units of two and spoke only in banter. Budgets, stunts, and physiques ballooned in alarming tandem. Less than a decade after he begge...

The 20 Most Influential Female Directors

The narrative surrounding women in film is always changing -- even whether or not it is valuable to label someone a "female director" is up for debate. Makes sense! The term "female director" does not mean any one thing. Some women influenced cinema by developing technology. Others defined, or re-defined, a genre. Many made history by being the first woman to reach a milestone (no filmmaker needs to be the first at anything in order to be considered influential or culturally significant, but eac...
