Box Office: Tenet Stays Atop Quiet Weekend, Domestic Total at $36M

BEGIN SLIDESHOW Box Office: Tenet Stays Atop Quiet Weekend, Raises Domestic Total to $36M In Deadline’s box office report, the writer mentions how last year at this time Focus Features’ Downton Abbey opened to a then astonishing $31.3M en route to $123.4M. That seems like ages ago! Especially when compared to this weekend’s domestic box office which saw Tenet bring in $4.7M (-30% from last week) in its third week of release for a total come of $36.1M. The pic is actually doing quite well...

Tenet Reverses the Box Office, Snags $20 Million Labor Day Weekend

Tenet Reverses the Box Office, snags $20 million Labor Day weekend At long last, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet — a film many dubbed the box office savior — has made its way to some 2,810 U.S. theaters where it collected a not-too-shabby $20 million over the course of the Labor Day weekend, including $2.82 million from Imax locations. The film also pulled in $126 million overseas, bringing its worldwide come to $146 million. Obviously, one must keep in mind that some of the bigger filmgoing marke...

‘The New Mutants’ Tops the Slowly Growing Box Office with $7 Million Opening

The New Mutants became the first major studio title to get a theatrical released in the middle of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With somewhere between 60%-70% of movie theaters across the United States opened, The New Mutants was only able to muster up a $7 million opening weekend, with ticket sales being on the lower end of the expectations of Disney and 20th Century Studios. But even so, it’s the biggest debut for a movie since the pandemic began in the US back in March. Variety and Dea...

New Mutants Lands at the Top of the Weekend Box Office!

New Mutants Lands at the Top of the Weekend Box Office! The box office is back! Well, kinda. Even though a majority of theaters still haven’t opened, a handful of releases earned a semi-respectable amount of cash in limited release. Taking the top spot was Disney/20th Century Studios’ The New Mutants, which hauled in $7 million in its first weekend. Keep in mind that, according to Deadline, only 62% of theaters are open and auditorium capacity restrictions allow for only 25%-50% occupancy. E...

These are 2020’s most anticipated movies

Around this time a year ago, we were all charged up with anticipation to see the climax of the 23-film Marvel Cinematic Universe, the end of the 42-year-old main “Star Wars” saga and career-culminating epics from Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino. Nothing on that scale is coming along in the 2020 movie year. But appropriately enough for the start of a new decade, the films getting released in the next 12 months will likely reset Hollywood’s trajectory. And that’s something long overdue. To s...

‘Avenue 5’ Teaser: The Creator of ‘Veep’ Takes Us on a Luxurious Space Cruise with Hugh Laurie and Josh Gad

Veep creator and In the Loop director Armando Ianucci got bored with political satire a little while back, mostly because the real politics of today are far too ludicrous and depressing to effectively make comedy out of them. But that’s not stopping the masterful comedy writer and director from starting a new series. Avenue 5 has Armando Ianucci taking us to space aboard the luxurious space cruise ship of the same name. Hugh Laurie is the captain who seems to love his job, that is until the shi...
