You Can’t Trust BitLocker to Encrypt Your SSD on Windows 10

Some SSDs advertise support for “hardware encryption.” If you enable BitLocker on Windows, Microsoft trusts your SSD and doesn’t do anything. But researchers have found that many SSDs are doing a terrible job, which means BitLocker isn’t providing secure encryption. Many SSDs Don’t Implement Encryption Properly Even if you enable BitLocker encryption on a system, Windows 10 may not actually be encrypting your data. Instead, Windows 10 may be relying on your SSD to do it, and your SSD’s encryp...

How The Liberal Media Fuels The Mob

From watching CNN, I learned that our President is a racist who uses fear of brown-skinned people to keep himself in power. That all of his supporters are racists and that Russia helped put him in control for some nefarious reason. USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- I was in a local Italian joint for lunch and had to watch CNN for the course of my meal. Here’s the takeaway. We are living in two separate realities. From watching CNN, I learned that our President is a racist who uses fear of brown-skinned p...

Metadata transfer *from* device to calibre?

I’ve looked as best as I can but I can’t quite find anything to address my situation. I’m running Calibre as my library on my PC. I regularly download, read, and edit metadata on ebooks on my iPad. I want to be able to send/add/save the books I’ve added/changed metadata to while on my iPad to my Calibre library. The basic problem: How can I get custom/added metadata that I entered while on a device into my Calbre library? (FWIW, I don’t need xfer of annotations or bookmarks or even “read” st...

KOBO Wifi -- Chinese Epubs (already searched forum)

Hello everyone! I just got this ancient Kobo Wifi for $20 in a garage sale. I know it's pretty old, but I like things simple. I hope to read Chinese epubs as well, but every non-English character becomes ???. I searched online and found this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=184035 I tried it with different Chinese epub files, but none is successful. Embedded Chinese font is OK in modified epub file, because I can see Chinese in "Droid Sans Fallback" font when I open...

Microsoft Broke Windows 10’s File Associations With a Botched Update

File associations no longer work properly on Windows 10 after a buggy update. Windows won’t let you select certain applications as your defaults. We tested multiple PCs running the stable version of Windows 10, and they all had this problem. This is a strange bug. It affects some applications, but not others. For example, Windows 10 won’t let you make Adobe Photoshop or Notepad++ a default application for images or text files. But you can make other applications, like IrfanView, VLC, or Google ...

Mystery and Crime Kabel, Walther: Harald Harst (021) - Der ewige Jude. V1.0 [German] 05.11.2018

Was soll das a...

Guns save between 800,000 and 2.5 million lives annually. That’s 2,100 to 6,800 people every day who successfully use firearms to defend themselves, or prevent a criminal attack. U.S.A. -(Ammoland.com)- Guns save lives. You wouldn’t know that from reading your newspapers or watching TV. Google Killed Chrome Apps, But You Can Easily Make Your Own

If you live in Chrome the way I live in Chrome (which is basically all the time) but also appreciate running webapps in dedicated windows for better multitasking, Applicationize is a killer tool to have in your toolbox. It can turn any website into a full Chrome extension, allowing you do to things like open in its own window or pin it to the taskbar. It effectively re-adds the webapp functionality that was removed from Chrome for Windows and Mac some time ago, but it’s also super useful on Chr...

Export from Indesign so images display well in KP3?

I have a book in Indesign. When I export it as a Reflowable Epub it displays fine in any format in any eReader ... except for KP3 ... which displays all my images tiny. I am fiddling w the Export options for Objects to see if the result displays better in KP3. Sure enough clicking on various meaningless options is causing the images to display either small or tiny: so they're having effects. My goal is to have nice-sized images in Kindle just like they are for every other device. Any ideas? I...

We speak with the designer friends and Dear Data founders about their new journal Designers, artists and friends, Stefanie Posavec and Giorgia Lupi are fans of non-traditional data gathering.
