Inspired by Farlam & Chandler’s Pretty & Practical Garden Details

As we head into the final days of this year, I have a few new goals in mind.  The shorter days (where things start to get quiet) help me to recommit to writing and other creative projects. You know, things that can be done from the cozy chair in front of the wood stove (where I sit right now) while I typically have a blanket wrapped around my feet (it is not quite that cold yet). I am excited to get back to a regular schedule of finding and sharing new inspiration online. Farlam and Chandler cau...

Kindle pre-order is not shipped yet.

Is there someone who made pre-order and doesn’t shipped yet? I made order October 16, but mine is not shipped yet. Two days was passed after official release but my status is before ship. What’s the meaning of preorder? Is this because I’m not prime member or live in Canada? I don’t know why. I hope that they sent it ASAP.

Pale and Interesting: An Artful and Economical Renovation in Vancouver, BC

Steve Sims and Chessa Osburn felt lucky when they found a house in their price range in Vancouver, BC, which has a tight real estate market that rivals New York and San Francisco, even though “it was an unremarkable post-war (1945) bungalow on a busy street with two bedrooms upstairs and a basement suite,” Chessa says. “And once we bought the house, we didn’t have much of a budget to make improvements, so we were only able to do minimal work before we moved in. We painted the interiors white and...

Doug is No Throw’s Sustainable Kitchen Table

No Throw design’s simple and enduring credo might be summarized as “thou shalt not throw away.” Three elements constitute this admirable philosophy: 1. Easy assembly and disassembly to facilitate repairs, part replacement, and recycling; 2. Exclusive use of certified sustainable materials and production practices; and 3. Free downloads to enable local construction. The aptly named Doug Table is a good example. Made of sustainably harvested Douglas Fir, Doug is a kitchen table that embodies the ...

Set default value of a custom column

Hello again, I am wondering if there's a way to set a default value on a custom column, so that when a new record is created the custom column automatically has the specified default value. If it matters, the custom columns that I'd like to set default values for are "text with a fixed set of permitted values" and "yes/no". Thank you.

Alphabetize tags on individual records

Hi! I'm wondering if it is possible to alphabetize the list of comma-separated tags on each record in Calibre (not the tag browser, but the tags applied to a book). Currently, it looks like Calibre keeps the tags in the order in which they were entered. I am admittedly a serial folksonomist and apply lots of tags to my books, so as to help others filter down my collection. I'm hoping there's a tweak or script that can re-order the tags alphabetically in ascending order, for example: from: B...
