New Jersey Magazine Ban

Via WiscoDave, this unfortunate view: A new magazine capacity restriction goes into effect today in New Jersey. The internet is on fire with cries of people, including many gun owners not in New Jersey, criticizing the law as unjust, unconstitutional, meaningless, unfair and worse. What is missing is much real practical advice for New Jersey Gun Owners. What should they do now? What should they do with magazines that have a capacity of over 10 rounds? Unfortunately, while the law may eventually ...

Christmas Reading..

It's that time of year when we must all declare our Christmas reading plans. It doesn't matter if none of it gets read, it's the thought that counts, though I will read A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas as I do every year. As usual I have resisted putting Bleak House on the pile again. One day, one day it will have its moment but this year my plans are modest as reading time may not be a top priority with Offspringette around, though we will probably continue our Boxing Day traditio...

Smith & Wesson M&P 340 Revolver: Reason for CCW Advocates to Go Retro

The Rev reviews the Smith & Wesson M&P 340 Revolver and finds a new reason to carry a revolver concealed. Smith & Wesson M&P 340 Revolver USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Have you noticed the trend? Retro items are on the rise. Sometimes trends are stupid. Often there’s no logic behind a trend, and reasonable people would do well to avoid them.Eating Tide Pods.Flipping up the collar on a polo shirt.Men wearing yoga pants around the city. You get the idea. Introduction

Hi all. I'm Alex Went, originally from the UK, now living in Prague. I'm a freelance editor/copywriter/voiceover artist, so I do a lot of reading! I'm currently using a PocketBook InkPad 3, which I have to say is pretty fantastic, with a few *very* minor reservations. Hoping that this forum will be useful in supporting my use of this device, and perhaps giving some idea of where to go next.

Good news, bad news...

I shot film pretty consistently all through 2015 and then it sorta ground to a halt.I don't develop film at home because there's not really any way to do so here at Roseholme Cottage. It's a tiny frame structure completely devoid of windowless interior rooms, and even the basement has glass brick windows along the long walls. I could use a dark bag and tanks, but that's a pain.Anyway, what happened was that as that year drew to a close, I'd build up a backlog of around a dozen rolls of exposed f...

36 hours in seattle

We had so much fun running around Seattle last week. We saw Pacific Northwest Ballet's Nutcracker. I had been dying to see the new costumes and sets designed by Ian Falconer a couple years ago. It was so good, and so wonderful to see it all in person. Here's my rock-star parkig at the market. I was so proud. It pays to get there early. We shopped and ran around going to old favorites and now ones. I did not make it inside of Nana's Green Tea, sadly, because the was a crazy line arou...

Culture You Can Heft

In 2004, the way I interacted with culture fundamentally changed. That’s the year I got my first iPod. Before my iPod, if I wanted to listen to music, I’d have to pop a CD into my car’s 5-disc changer or bring along my Discman. When one CD was over and I wanted to listen to another, I’d have to put in another disc. If I wanted to buy a new CD, I’d mosey on down to a music store. I’d often go looking for an album from one band, but after talking to the store clerk, walk away with one fro...

Gun Control – Do Facts Matter To Politicians & Judges?

Do guns make us less safe? U.S.A. -(Ammoland.com)- The people with the greatest need for self-protection are denied the tools they need to keep their family safe. That is the real face of gun-control, but that isn’t what we were sold by politicians. That isn’t what judges tell us. We’re told that disarming you and leaving guns in the hands of criminals is acceptable as long as politicians meant well. Do facts matter anymore? You’re welcome to your own opinion, but let’s look at what we kno...

Dawning

I see this sequence as representing the state of our country.  It's starting to get lighter, folks! The news of the past week -- starting with the resignation of Zinke -- another rat leaving the sinking ship and good riddance to him -- has been mixed.  The child dying in US custody at the border is shameful -- and even more shameful to my mind are the heartless apologists who say it was all her father's fault for fleeing the lawless situation in Guatemala. Well, yes. Poor ...

Mormon Pioneer Book

I searched for a thread on this and nothing turned up. There is an interesting book on Amazon titled "Forgotten Skills of the Mormon Pioneers". I'm wondering if any has this book and if it offers anything of interest to preppers? I'm not really looking for 19th century recipes for apple pie but useful things like off-grid animal husbandry, gardening, etc. Thanks

Is sync last read page w/device possible?

Does Calibre sync the last read page of books that are both on the connected device and in the Calibre library. So if I read some pages in my e-reader and then connect to Calibre, when I open the book with the Calibre ebook viewer, will it start from the last read page in the device? Or when I read some further pages in the Calibre viewer on my laptop and then connect the device, and then open the book in my device, will it start from the last page read in the PC? I am running Calibre 3.34 in De...

Change frontlight steps when sliding up/down

When I change the frontlight setting by sliding the finger up/down one of the sides, the change seems to always be 10%. Is there some way to change this? Just to 5 would be ok, but even smaller would be great. (I'm using Inkpad 3 (5.19.542) if that makes any difference.)

Device not working after dictionary installation

Hi I have a Kobo Aura H2O 2nd. edition. I have koreader installed, did it with the "alternate installation method based on KFMon" (https://github.com/koreader/koreader...n-Kobo-devices). Everything worked fine for days. Today, I installed 4 dictionaries I found here (http://download.huzheng.org/babylon/german/) unzipped them and put them in the correct file as shown here (.adds/koreader/data/dict/). Everything worked fine and I could use them when running koreader. So then I installed 3 more...

new with questions

hello new person to ebooks (within the last 3 months). and new to calibre and conversions. Although I feel this may be a more common question than I know, I will ask it anyhow and hope for some mercy because of the newbie status. I have recently purchased 2 epub books that are art related - they are roughly 26mb and 16mb in size. Although they work on my iBooks app, there are features that I like in my kindle app that I have used a little more - page color and font size in particular. the...
