Commentary On Open Carry Of Guns In North Carolina

Asheville Citizen-Times: Question: I know that you have to have a license to carry a concealed weapon in our area. But a friend told me that if you do not conceal the weapon and it is out in the open, with a few exceptions you can carry a weapon in public. Specifically, he said you can walk around downtown Asheville with a shotgun or a machete and it is legal. I’m having a hard time believing that. Could the Answer Man investigate and explain what the particulars of the law are? Where can and wh...

Aura ONE Refresh sideloaded books?

I have some sideloaded books generated using FanFicFare. Some of them are updated regularly because they're still being updated on the source site. When adding these books to my Kobo, I can see the file on the device being updated (the SHA256 checksum changes and I can unpack the file from the device and see the new content) but when I open the book on the Kobo it isn't showing the updates. I have a few books I just updated, new TOC and content which isn't accessible from the Kobo device but is ...

sort of articles is mixed on the fire

I got last week my new fire HD 8 (8th generation) and transferred all my books from calibre (around 5000) to it. Normally I have it sorted by newest/oldest on the fire under books and also in the collections. To be sure, that all books are in collections and are really all transferred, I sorted it alphabetical and I found out, that older books (from beginning 2018 and older) are sorted like following: Title: A Material World book 1 is under 'M' and the newest book in the series Book 4 (and the ...

moved library to new computer, lost metadata

I just moved my library to a new Windows 10 PC, after exporting it from a Windows 7 PC When I tried importing it, it gave me an error so I followed the directions in the FAQ about just copying it. However, I didn't read it closely enough, and instead of just pointing Calibre to where I had the folder, I copied its contents into the NEW Calibre library folder which was automatically set up by wizard when I first opened Calibre on new PC. It asked whether to skip copying the metadata.db file b...

I have being using Calibre for a few years to manage my e-books and have found it great to use. Recently my Avast Anti virus changed something and Calibre will not function. i have deleted and re-installed but no difference. Troubleshooting Kindle Driver Error Whenever Connected to PC

I had posted this before here regarding my kindle showing driver error whenever connected to Calibre on PC. Since the five months I have ran and fixed this issue, somewhat, I have been running into driver error more and more frequently. The fix that was advised and I used to fix the thing now serves more of a stopgap than actual permanent fix. Now it doesn't matter if I uninstalled and reinstalled calibre, eventually it would work fine for a while until I reconnect and the message will show a...

Gun Parts Buyers Beware!

Arkansas Online: On leupold.com, Leupold issues a warning against purchasing Leupold-labeled optics from wish.com, ioffer.com, aliexpress.com, alibaba.com and many others. The most commonly counterfeited products, according to Leupold, mimic Mark 4 rifle scopes, VX-III rifle scopes, Prismatic rifle scopes, CQ/T rifle scopes, LCO sights and Deltapoint Pro sights. The products are illegally imported from the People’s Republic of China, which is a profligate violator of patent and trademark rights....

2019 Will be Wilder Than 2018

Opinion 2019 Will be Wilder Than 2018: Trump and Kim Jong Un USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- After four consecutive years of events that have become more and more surprising, you can be sure the momentum will continue. It may be difficult for some people to believe, but 2019 will be even more filled with surprises than the last four years. This means that all of us should set our assumptions and “expert knowledge“ to one side and approach the new year with a sense of humility and curiosity. The world...

New Year’s Resolutions for Second Amendment Supporters ~ VIDEO

Opinion AmmoLand New Years Resolution New York – -(AmmoLand.com)- As 2018 fades away and we come to 2019, it is time for us to review the past year, and think about how things went, and what can be done to better protect our Second Amendment rights. Reflection and assessment might sound odd, but it is an essential thing for any endeavor – and protecting our rights is a significant endeavor, indeed. A considerable part of this involves taking an honest and realistic look at the situations Sec...

Forma ‘red’ light

Hi just a quick question. I have an Aura One and have the backlight at maximum red. I got a Forma a few months back. It’s OK but the maximum red seems still almost white compared to the Aura One. That’s a great shame because I love that almost parchment sunset background and miss it a lot when I use the Forma. Also it’s much more healthy for the eyes. So my question: why the change? Or is it just a quirk with my Forma? Thanks, Steve

30 SEC READ: Success

Success comes to those who do not waste time comparing what they are doing with what others are doing; it enters the house of the person who says every day: ‘I will do my best.’ People who seek only success rarely find it, because success is not an end in itself, but a consequence. Obsession […]

Mushrooms to Save Bees?

Paul Staments, the famous mycologist, has inspired me for ages. His research is ever-promising and I whenever I read something new about him, it always seems that he’s found a mushroom to solve yet another planetary catastrophe. And again today – The New York Times has a short story about how he may have found a mushroom to treat viruses that are killing bees and causing colony collapse. “Our research shows that extracts from the living mycelial tissue of common wood conk mushrooms known to have...

This document was converted from a PDF obtained byThe Black Vault via a followup FOIA request to a previous FOIA request. (It was among some documents listed bu not supplied.) The OCR layer was very poor and required very extensive editing. I also had to do a lot of cleanup on the image. I used asciidoc to convert the text to epub and have also attached a zip file with the plain text, the text with asciidoc markup, a shell script to generate html, epub, pdf, azw3, and mobi versions, and the htm...

Well...

Slept late, watched Meet the Press and the Hoosier-specific business week in review show that follows it, and then dozed for a bit.I am entirely out of several varieties of clean clothes, so I'd have to do laundry before even thinking about leaving the house.I also have three cans of Diet Dew left in the fridge, which is barely enough to get me rolling in the morning.Fortunately, with Amazon's PrimeNow service, I can get the soda delivered for about the exact same price it's sold down the street...

Microsoft Teams on Note

Hi all, Anyone with experience using the Microsoft Teams on their Note or other Boox device? I just ordered the Note, so unfortunately I am not able to make my own experiences just yet. But a fair bit of the collaborative work I participate in uses Teams, so it would be wonderful to know that I could look forward to handle this on the Note.

Have you ever ordered crickets online? Don't!

A Washington Post reporter ordered crickets for the family's pet lizard. Things did not go well. He posted about it on Twitter and wrote a story about it in the Washington Post. Here's the first Twitter post: So, a shipment of crickets for the lizard arrived via FedEx today. It was my first time ordering bulk crickets off the internet, and I naively assumed that they would be in like, a bag or some other contraption to facilitate easy transfer to another container. They were not. He also talks a...

Kobo ePub formatting and 'entire library' questions

I'm awaiting receipt of a Kobo Forma, and this is my first introduction to an e-ink reader. Been wanting one for a while now, am tired of reading books on my iPhone tethered to a power brick :D I had two questions that have been bugging me, with one I cannot answer until my Forma arrives. 1) I have a variety of e-books in different formats - have moved them all to calibre. Several were from the publishers own sites in html format (ie, Baen's free ebook library). I spent some time figuring out ho...

Hi! Problem with specific epubs

Hi! I'm Sai , a longtime user of calibre. I recently downloaded an epub but I am unable to see the text of the book unless I highlight it. I've downloaded other epubs after this and they work fine...it's just this specific one. I've tried to change the font colour in 'edit book' but I am still unable to see the text unless I highlight it. I converted the epub to a pdf and I can see the text there but I prefer reading in epub format. Could anyone help me?
