Mystery and Crime Macdonell, A. G.: The Factory on the Cliff (1928); v1

A G Macdonell, 1895-1941 Best known for his gently humourous "England, Their England", already in this Library, Macdonnell also wrote six crime novels under the name "Neil Gordon". This is one of them. What is the secret of the factory on the cliff, the strange scientist who operates it, and his beautiful daughter? The original title was apparently "Professor's Poison". (The cover is my own, using one of my own photos, of a derelict factory in London, as the background.) ...

Mystery and Crime Macdonell, A G: The Shakespeare Murders (1933), v1

A G Macdonell, 1895-1941 Best known for his gently humorous "England, Their England", already in this Library, Macdonnell also wrote six crime novels under the name "Neil Gordon". This is one of them. The tale involves a famous (or rather infamous) crook known as The Duke, a very dodgy art dealer, and what just may be an entire page, in Shakespeare's own hand, of one of his plays. (I created the cover with one of my own photos taken in England so long ago it's on Kodak film. No prizes for iden...

Older Gun Owners Have Alternative to AARP with AMAC

Of two groups vying for senior patronage, AARP supports “gun control” while AMAC makes a point of advocatong for the Second Amendment. (Association of Mature American Citizens/Facebook) U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)-The American Association of Retired Persons has been relatively silent on guns in recent years. Following exposure in American Rifleman back in 2013 detailing AARP support for disarmament edicts, someone at the top may have decided a low profile will drive away fewer members. While not...

Manipulate Space with the Intersection Room Divider

The Intersection Room Divider from Corona Group works thusly in both the literal and figurative senses of the term. A quick and functional solution to the sometime seeming unbridled vastness of the open office, Intersection neatly divides space with a modicum of disruption. It mounts not to the walls, but rather floor and ceiling, thus preserving the possibility of passage on either side, while still creating a clean delineation for usable space. The material options are many and varied, each ...

Journeys...

Thank you for all the kind and encouraging comments about the Tinker's Cott / dovegreyretreats endeavour...we already have some bookings which is very exciting, and we are really looking forward to our season. Included in any visit is some time to chat about books (and quilts) with me should anyone want to do so (and so far it seems they would like that) and as a separate venture I am hoping to offer a few 'dovegreydays' for small groups in the future. I envisage a day spent in and around che...

Common Expressions Strategies

Hello All, Is there a common expression or strategy that will organize new adds to the basic title, author, publisher, date columns? I have over 3k books I've organized around 1k by hand, ensuring the columns are correct with date and it takes quite awhile. Is there a common accepted strategy for ensuring new book additions of various file names and structure make it to logical columns and saving the most time? Any input or pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated.

Help? Comments not showing in book details

I'm having a problem getting comments to show up in my book details in my Nook library (oldest e-ink version) and in my Calibre Companion app. Because it's happening in the Nook and not just the CC app, I'm pretty sure it's something Calibre is doing when it's sending the metadata. The thing is, I have no idea why this started happening. I did three things right before it started happening. 1. I edited a few books to get rid of junk in them. Coulda messed one up, for sure, but I did run the ...

Something Happened: Windows Setup Error Messages Will Finally Be Useful (Maybe)

Microsoft Community Upgrading to a new version of Windows is often a straightforward affair. But when something doesn’t go right, you’re left with vague errors that aren’t helpful. In the next version of Windows, Microsoft will try to solve that. If you’ve ever encountered an error during Windows Setup, you’ve probably been left completely frustrated and wondering what to do. The message you see most likely didn’t have any description of the problem and just listed the letters KB followed by ...

Restoring exact books and positions after factory reset

Hi all, I seem to be having battery issues with my Kobo Clara HD and I'd like to try to do a factory reset and try reinstalling all my books. I want to restore the books I had on the device from the Calibre library (I have about 400 books, and about 103 books are on the device itself). I have the KoboUtilities set up also and it is correctly storing my bookmark/page though if I lose that I don't care so much - the important thing is the books itself. I tried searching the forum and reading t...

Calibre sending fails

Since the 29th January, I have been unable to send converted books either direct to my Kindle, GMX, or any other email address. I keep receiving a fail message. A Google search indicate at least one other Kindle owner has had the same problem and commenced on the 29th also. Nothing on my PC has been changed since my last transfers a couple of days earlier. Any assistance out there?
