Perhaps there's never been a better time to be a 1911 aficionado. Like most firearms, the 1911's reliability is inextricably tied to her magazine pairing. Walk into many loca...

Mystery and Crime Leblanc, Maurice: the Crystal Stopper (1912), v1

The fifth entry in the Lupin saga. When one of his men is sentenced to death by the guillotine, Lupin sets in train a desperate scheme to rescue him. It all hinges on a deeply incriminating document concealed in a crystal decanter stopper. Which, somehow, has disappeared without trace. The cover is from the French first edition, modified. Boox Poke or Tolino Shine 3

My main use case is to read books and sync highlights and reading progress to iOS. Assuming I can get both at the same price, which one of the two devices would you recommend? The Boox has beefier specs but may require fiddling around. I’ve also read that the touch screen does is not very accurate.

View single page landscape

I have a Nook HD+ tablet and I have created an epub from a collection of Wikipedia Periodic Table articles. To show the periodic table in its full width I need to view a single page in landscape mode. However, using Moon+ Reader, every time I rotate to landscape it gives me two pages (which for normal text would be fine). Is there any way to get Moon+ Reader to show me a single page landscape or is there any other reader which provides the option? Many thanks.

Calibre-Web and Calibre side by side?

I've been migrating my installations over to Linux systems recently, and I've initially installed Calibre-Web using one of the Docker images. That seems pretty good, but there's a couple spots I'm fuzzy on: Do you also install Calibre typically, to handle whatever things Calibre-Web doesn't? If I install them both, do I need to be careful not to run them at the same time (mostly concerned about simultaneous access to the database). I think I need to install Calibre if for no other reason then t...

Template to properly title manga on my device

I have been using the following plugboard for my entire library: {series}{series_index:0>2s| #| – }{title} Unfortunately, this plugboard has some undesirable results for my manga and graphic novels. I end up with titles like:Kasan #01 – Kasan, Vol. 1 Kasan #02 – Kasan, Vol. 2 I was wondering if anyone had come up with a way to remove the redundancy of series information like this? Is there a way to only show the series information if a book doesn't include a particular tag (like "Manga") or...

Latest Kindle paperwhite dark mode question

On the latest entry model Kindle, in dark mode, is it possible to adjust the color tone of the text to off-white/sepia? Is there anything different about the screen/lighting that makes it less blue-toned in day mode? I have the first gen Paperwhite, but have been doing most of my reading with margin note on iPad lately.

I have a Kobo Glo Hd with a faulty (pkysical) plug. I can plug in my external battery and charge it, I can sometimes plug in my computer and charge it, but virtually never hve the computer see it as a device. I would like to be able to read a given book on either, then sync the bookmark (where to restart reading) to the other (clearly preferably wirelessly) Anyone have any id...

Japanese books on Kobo?

Greetings, fellow Kobo owners! Does anyone here purchases Japanese ebooks to read on their Kobo? I've only recently realised that given that Kobo is somewhat popular in Japan, you should be able to get ebooks for it in Japanese. Given that eventually I'd like to learn more of the language, it'd probably be a good thing to have, some books to try my skills with. So, any place that would sell me DRM-free (or easily removable DRM :) Japanese books that will work fine with a Kobo reader? I'm speci...

Forma Author First/Last Name Confusion

I have just replaced my Sony PRS-T1 with a Forma and really like it. When I go into My Books>Authors>Sort:last (or first) name, some books are listed twice under the first name and the last name. For instance War of the Worlds appears twice in the list, once under" H. G." and once under "Wells". Similarly "A Place of Execution" has entries under "Val" and "McDermid". All these entries appeared correctly in the Sony. In Calibre the authors name is entered using the format lastname, firstname I ca...

Women weren't excluded from early science fiction: they were erased

Science fiction scholar Lisa Yaszek's recent book The Future Is Female! 25 Classic Science Fiction Stories by Women, from Pulp Pioneers to Ursula K. Le Guin, is a secret history of women in science fiction, reframing the story of exclusion ("women weren't welcome in early sf writing circles") as one of erasure ("women made vital contributions to early science fiction, and these were systematically expunged from the record when the first wave of historical sf anthologies were published, as part ...
