Side-loaded Font Weight Patch

Hey Folks, I heard that Kobo e-readers cannot manipulate the weight of side-loaded fonts, unless the user installs a patch. Is there a post in this forum where I can download the patch? Are patches easy to install? I have no programming experience, but I've watched a few YouTube tutorials on it and it seems fairly straightforward. Will changing the weight of side-loaded fonts mess up the kerning or cause any other problems? If the Kobo can change the weight of side-loaded fonts, without mes...

Calibre dissapeared off my PC

Has this ever happened to anyone? I did not uninstall it or anything. It is just gone. I did reactivate my system mechanic yesterday but I noticed its gone from my PC as well.

We need to talk about... Journals

...journals / diaries, I'm not sure when one word became more fashionable than the other, and now there's something called 'bullet journaling' which is very big business. I'm envious of those who sketch each day or event (and here are some brilliant ones on Instagram) or create beautifully artistic entries. It isn't quite what I strive or have the time for, though I have now succumbed to the joys of washi tape for a bit of added interest. But hold on, I'm feeling a bit smug because 2018 was the...

Calibre Metadata and Kindle paperwhite 4

Hello: Other than the book's title and author, what Kindle paperwhite 4 metadata can be transferred from a Calibre library? I mean: without changing the title to something other than the book's name; for instance, I am aware that there are automated ways to, say, change de title to something like - . If not directly with Calibre to Kindle, are there other software tools to be used to populate the Kindle book's metadata with Calibre library? Awaiting your kind reply, [INCANUS]

Importing Books-- often Unknown by Unknown

Hi, I've run into a problem when importing books into Calibre. Sometimes it detects accurate metadata, and it's easy to keep track of which book is which. More often it detects inaccurate metadata. Most often it detects *no* metadata, and I get a string of "Unknown" by "Unknown" and have to figure out which books are which. I could switch preferences > import > read metadata from file contents off. But when the files do contain accurate metadata, that means retyping that metadata. Is there some ...

AZW3 justified - ragged right

The AZW3 of The 2020 Commission Report on the North Korean Nuclear Attacks Against the United States by Jeffrey Lewis is ragged right. Since the ragged right Alignment page option is grayed out for AZW3 I've always assumed Kindles will always display AZW3 justified. So it looks like justification for AZW3 is a function of the book. Is this an attribute that is set in the AZW3 or is it done in the source CSS or HTML? (I assume the ragged right in The 2020 Commission Report ... is in keeping wit...

"Publish and be damned!"

The post title is the famous retort of the Duke of Wellington when a publisher offered to leave him out of the salacious memoirs of a courtesan in exchange for a healthy sum of cash.Similarly, Jeff Bezos seems to have correctly divined that the average American in 2018 has a lot less of a problem with the idea of consenting adults texting each other dick pics or bobs and vagene than they do about a tabloid surreptitiously getting ahold of said communications and attempting to use them for blackm...

Calibre reverted to freshly installed default

Don't know what happened, but I was working on my library when my computer unexpectedly powered off (didn't know it wasn't charging). When I restarted it my Calibre library had reverted to the original default gui settings. Plus it started on a library that has never been attached to Calibre. I have a synced library in my Dropbox that isn't attached, but synced using outside tools so that I can use it on Calibre Collections. It probably is synced to Calibre because I copy the db file from th...

Covers/Cases - Pros, Cons & General Thoughts

I just purchased my very first e-reader (Kobo Clara HD), and am wondering what others' thoughts are regarding cases or covers. I'm sure this is ultimately something that comes down to personal preference, but I've had a hard time finding much information about any benefits to using one, other than presumably providing some amount of damage protection. :dunno: Do you use a case/cover? If so, are there any particular features/styles that you like best?

Battleground State

Six for Saturday 9th February 2019

Not a lot of gardening has happened today; the wind and cold were not really conducive to pottering. Despite the skies being heavy with wintering clouds, there were moments when the clouds cleared and the sun shone through making the Anemanthele lessoniana glisten. The Phormium, growing in the same border as the grass, is one... Read More

What Was Old Is New Again In Gun Control Proposals

Kamala Harris Fayetteville, AR – -(AmmoLand.com)- Kamala Harris, U.S. senator from California and declared candidate for president in the 2020 race, has come out supporting universal background checks on the sales of firearms. This is unsurprising, given her statements on the subject, and as a district attorney, she participated in an to say that the District of Columbia’s de facto ban on handguns was not a violation of the Second Amendment, as well as calling for further restrictions on th...

Strange Days

M aybe. I've been a bit scattered lately. Early this morning I was moving things around, furniture, studio stuff. And I was feeling like my head was not attached. I moved my computer stuff upstairs so I could look out at the sea through the bare trees. In the process I lost my mouse. Hours, I patiently looked. Tried to remember. Finally I just decided I must have put it out with the trash in a blank moment.  Then, while watering the plants, I found it in the center of the aloe cactus that...

Calibre e-book viewer contents display [issue][help]

Hi, I have an issue with the ebook viewer on my local installation where the contents page renders at the top left of the primary display and cannot be moved. (please see the attached image) I am not sure if this was caused by a change in the settings as I have been unable to find one or make any changes to the way it is being displayed. I am also not sure if I've made any changes to the settings that might be causing this. The only changes made to the installation is the updates (I'm currently...
