Changin' Times

I'd like to thank everyone who commented on Thursday's question (if you could recommend one book, what would it be?). I was a bit surprised the post didn't get more comments (xx so far—I'll fill in the "xx" in a few minutes) and I admit I was hoping for a few more recommendations of more recent, digital-photography-related books. In part to educate myself. I chewed on that for a while this morning, and I guess the bottom line is that I have to accept that photo culture is changing. A long time a...

Extracting correct metadata after books are added

Hi all, I've seen the option to use regex when adding books into Calibre to extract some metadata correctly. But how can I correct the metadata when the books are already added in Calibre? Is there a way to extract the correct title and the correct authors from the Title field? Thanks!

Sigil Rename Command

Using the Search function I can't find anything even remotely close to answering this question... The book I am editing has 100+ image files [located in the "IMAGES" folder] in the following format: Pict_statesecret_ch2_castroandcubela.jpg Pict_statesecret_ch2_cuba.jpg What I'd like to do is remove the "Pict_statesecret_" from the filename while leaving the "ch2_XXXXXX.jpg" in place, using the "RENAME" command. Is this possible? Thanks for any thoughts, Tom

Way to resize all images

Hi. I have some books which may have images that are considerably smaller than the output device's screen width. I have reconverted them using the tablet output format, and of course, that doesn't seem to resize them. I have tried to resize the images by setting a specified output device that has a fairly wide (but not wider than my device's screen) width, but that didn't seem to make a difference. I have not looked at the html or CSS. Is there a way to force ALL images in an Epub output to r...

Does kobo clara support host usb in hardware?

Hi, I am investigating if the clara can support host usb. It supports client usb well. The kernel appears to have all the necessary software configured in. However there is no voltage being output from the OTG cable, and there are several "dummy regulator" usb messages being emitted by dmesg at boot. I am assuming that host OTG USB is not possible due to hardware limitations. However my hardware might be faulty...

Therefore my question if this is possible. - which operating system is running on this device ? - is nickel a kind of desktop or the "ebook reader" itself ? - if I rename "nickel" is the device booting in a command-line ? - is it possible to exchange nickel with another program suitable for this operating system? Thanks ...

Miniaturized cover when kindle converted to epub

I have encountered this in a few books sent by a friend who buys kindle books and ibooks and had thought these must have been ibook to epub conversions. I borrowed I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban ISBN: 9780316280570 from my library and it loaded (AdobeDigitalEdition for Windows pc) with a miniaturized cover. It was also available as a kindle download. Now I'm curious. What causes the miniaturization and is it something one can fix in Edit? Thank y...

"In the alternate reality of this novel... humanity hibernates four months out of every year, like bears, gorging on calories in preparation for the long, severe winter."

"Those who have the means to afford a drug called Morphenox can ensure that their slumber is dreamless and peaceful. Why would they want to do this? Because dreams, it is believed, are wasteful, an unnecessary expenditure of calories during a precarious and vulnerable time, putting dreamers at risk of using up all of their stored fats. Worst-case scenario: The dreamer becomes Dead in Sleep. Thus the need for the requisite Governmental Agency to oversee hibernation. The Winter Consuls are those b...

Reader with disable touch + manual buttons

Hi all, My previous two e-readers have both been from Sony (PRS-505 and PRS-T1). I loved the simplicity of these models. I didn't need wifi, I could convert books into epub and read them on the device, etc. I'm looking to upgrade, as my ereader constantly double turns pages, and it's getting a little old. Preferrably, I'm looking for an ebook reader that can disable the touchscreen and use manual buttons to turn pages. Other than that, I don't have a lot of requirements. I was looking at the ...

Blast from the Past: Proof Found That Brady Campaign Still Exists!

Opinion Brady Campaign Fairfax, VA – -(Ammoland.com)- Nostalgia gripped gun owners this week as longtime foe the Brady Campaign managed to garner a few measly headlines in the media landscape they once commanded so ably. As it happens, the Brady Campaign has decided to undergo another rebranding effort and will now go by simply “Brady.” For those counting, this is the fourth different name for the outmoded handgun prohibition organization. According to a piece in The Hill, the new marketing ...

fabric happiness (and a blog anniversary)

These beautiful fabrics are from Bolt, which recently moved and expanded. They have such a good selection of fabrics and trims I got a little nutty. I am so lucky to have such wonderful local indie fabric stores in Portland. I just saw on my calendar that Feb. 21st was my blog anniversary. I started it in 2005. 14 years? Incedible. And yet not. I feels like a long time ago. I go through my archives sometimes, with the girls. I just did recently with Lydia looking at all the homeschooling projec...
