In Praise Of The .30/06 Cartridge

Outdoor Life: After more than a century of flattening the world’s biggest, meanest, and tastiest game animals, the .30/06 Springfield remains an incredibly well balanced, versatile, affordable hunting cartridge. With modern ammo it shoots 100- to 200 fps faster than it used to. If it was good enough to stop lions, rhinos, buffalo, and elephants 100 years ago, it’s probably good enough to stop deer, elk, and moose today. He makes his case with unction when comparing the ballistics to 6.5 Creedmoo...

POTD: AR15 and Microtech H.A.L.O. VI

Today’s Photos are of a rather special knife together with an AR15. The Microtech H.A.L.O. VI is an Out-The-Front, Single-Action Automatic knife. Single-Action Automatic knife? Really? Yes, after you pushed the button and released the blade out in the open it is fixed and won’t go back by another push on the button (like the […] Read More … The post POTD: AR15 and Microtech H.A.L.O. TFB REVIEW: KNS SwitchSight Glock Sights

You just bought a Glock, and let’s face it, those plastic factory Glock sights are flat out embarrassing. Plastic sights on a metal slide just don’t make a whole lot of sense, and they are definitely nothing to write home about. When it comes time to upgrade those sights there are two things you may […] Read More … The post TFB REVIEW: KNS SwitchSight Glock Sights appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Attention All Sigil Users

It is clear to us, now that the decision to convert Sigil INI preference files to UTF-8 was not a good idea. That combined with other performance-related issues has caused us to make the decision to pull both Sigil v0.9.11 and v0.9.12. Regardless of whether the two issues are related or not, we cannot in good conscience recommend their continued use, and thus have removed the binary downloads from their Github release pages. In short ... don't use these versions (unless you're willing to work wi...

Now we are a teenager...

Thirteen years ago today I started writing dovegreyreader scribbles and whilst I think it’s a nice little something to celebrate, Magnus, as you can see, is very unimpressed.. Heading for four million hits on over 4500 scribbles (if each one is approx 1000 words...er...) all I can say is thank you for your continued support and donations, and for reading and commenting and chatting to each other in comments as you do, especially given that I was only going to do it for a week. Kobo Forma. Does its screen update after dictionary use?

I own Kindle Paperwhite 1. It's set to update screen on every page turn, but when I use dictionary, only part of the screen that was covered by dictionary popup gets updated and remaining text is slightly faded. I read in tiny and thin font, and it bugs me a lot. Does Kobo Forma have the same problem?

Rainbow Pot Of Gold cupcakes for St. Patrick’s Day

I was trying to come up with a fun and easy idea for decorating St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes, and was inspired by one of our favorite techniques, rainbow swirled frosting. Rainbows are a fun way to celebrate St. Patty’s Day — especially when there’s a pot of gold at the end! Using the technique, I painted stripes of paste food coloring on the inside of an icing bag. I really wanted bright, bold colors, and not a lot of white showing through, so I painted the entire bag, with no gaps between the...

Bump Stock Case Expedited by Court of Appeals in DC

Bump Stock Case Expedited by Court of Appeals in DC U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- The appeal by the Plaintiffs against the BATFE in the bump stock ruling has been expedited.  The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit has ordered the parties to submit briefs by March 4th of 2019. That is extraordinarily fast by U.S. appeals court standards. The original ruling by the Circuit court hinged on the notion that ordinary words are ambiguous, and an agency can reverse previou...

DIY: Painted Pastel Knobs

An easy DIY with a big return on investment? Swapping out your standard-issue hardware for hand-painted wooden knobs. Spotted on Lushlee several years back, these painted pastel knobs are still a favorite, used to match or stylishly mismatch a dresser. Above: The inspiration: hand-painted knobs by Finnish designer and stylist Riikka Kantinkoski of RK//Design and Weekday Carnival. The knobs are no longer available, but can be easily replicated with a sample can of paint or two. Above: Fo...

The Retail Apocalypse continues in '19...

"There's roughly 52 square feet of retail space per person in the US, compared to 19 square feet of retail space in the UK, according to CoStar. This market oversaturation suggests the US is still in the "early innings" of mass store closures, according to a report last October by the advisory firm Cowen and Company."The Macy's that anchors what's left of what used to be an indoor mall just up the road is making the go-aways, probably finally killed off by the super Target across the parking lot....

How to Share Things from OneDrive

If you’ve got an Office 365 account (free or paid), then you’ve got OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud storage app. Cloud storage is great for sharing files with other people, so let’s see how it works in OneDrive. You can share OneDrive files from either the OneDrive folder on your computer (the “client interface”), or the Office 365 web interface, or the OneDrive mobile app. Which method is best depends on your situation and preference, but Microsoft is pushing its cloud offerings strongly, and that...
