Mystery and Crime Reeve, Arthur B: Guy Garrick (1912) v2, 7 March 2019

A Craig Kennedy scientific detective novel in all but name; for some reason the detective is called Guy Garrick. The surging flood of the motorcar produced new crimes and new criminals: car theft, and motor bandits; and an age-old crime: murder. Guy Garrick tracks down a gang. The text is from a 2008 ebook posted by RWood, (in .prc format only) in the Kindle forum. I have found an original cover, and the missing frontispiece, and remade the book as .epub, .mobi and .azw3 formats. Hence v2 ...

As a way of celebrating International Women’s Day, here are four artists whose stories I recount in LA PASSIONE: How Italy Seduced the World: Plautilla Nelli (1524-...

VFGs, AOWs, PSBs and SBRs: A Return To Understanding The NFA

In the past few years, we have drilled down into the netherworld of NFA laws, attempting to determine the subtle differences between short barreled rifles (SBRs), Any Other Weapons (AOWs) and simply firearms. Ruger Vaquero Birds Head .44 Magnum/.44 Special – Review

Ruger Vaquero Birds Head .44 Magnum/.44 Special U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- Just when I thought I was done straining my wrists firing more .44 Magnum ammunition than a normal, sane person fires in a lifetime, I got a package at my FFL. Turns out I had one more to go. Now, I will tell you honestly that after 3,000 rounds of ole’ Elmer’s Special, I almost sent the Ruger New Vaquero packing back to the factory, but I have to say that I’m glad I didn’t. I’ve written about a number of very powerful r...

Nook Study

Nook Study finally stopped working for me on the one remaining computer it still worked on. I had switched to Nook Study on this Windows 7 machine when Nook for PC stopped working. On my other desktop, Nook Study stopped working before Nook for PC did but it stopped working a while back. I bought a book tonight and when I told Nook Study to sync the 'wheel' spun but the new book did not appear. I tried this several times without the new book showing up. It worked as recently as the 3rd. I logg...

Customising Calibre Content Server

Hello all! Has anyone customized their content server site? Any tips? I really love Calibre, but it would be excellent if I could design my own first page, where I can add some intro text and give links to parts of my library. Also, is it possible to skip the "Choose the calibre library to browse" step if there is only one library? Thanks so much for any help! Jessica

A new bug in Sigil 0.9.12?

By trying to find the cause of my issues with this new version of Sigil, I found something rare. Marley+Malek Kids

Designers Sissy+Marley, Rachel Geisler, and Jill Malek have collaborated to create Marley+Malek Kids, a line of modern wallpaper for modern kids. The designs are chic and whimsical—without being obvious. Motifs still feature children’s favorite things: cars and stars, rabbits and zebras, hearts and crowns. But they present those magical charms of childhood in monochromatic, elemental simplicity. Princes and princesses can fantasize about their realms with Kingdom, a pattern of simplified crown...

HBO's Lovecraft Country Could Be Everything Green Book Wasn't

There are as many valid criticisms of Peter Farrelly’s Best Picture Oscar-winner Green Book as there are listings in Victor Hugo Green’s The Negro Motorist Green Book. But an upcoming adaptation has a lot more potential to tell the real story, even if there are Lovecraftian monsters involved.Read more...
