Skybound - a Journey in Flight ~ Rebecca Loncraine

'The loveliest places of allare those that look as ifthere's nothing thereto those still learning to look' 'Deserts for Instance' - Brian Turner (Elemental - Central Otago Poems) Choosing another book from the shelf of Journeys that I plan to do from my armchair this year, and 'learning to look' at new places is becoming a real treat. I'd no sooner travelled back in deep time searching for Doggerland with Julia Blackburn and Time Song than I decided I was ready for a bit of vast open sky a...

First Nations writers are reduced to moral objects, to be emptily liked or disliked in a white culture war we never asked forWe’re in the midst of a renaissance in First Nations literature. I should be elated. Alexis Wright won the 2018 Stella for the unrivalled Tracker, and in 2019 Melissa Lucashenko is shortlisted for the relentless Too Much Lip. Claire Coleman’s got another highly anticipated book, The Old Lie, coming out this year, Tony Birch has The White Girl in the works, and Kirli Saunde...

Creating A Quilled Outline

Most of the projects in this book involve creating a card outline drawn from a template, which is then filled with a variety of coiled or curved shapes. Below is how to set up the outline using a heart shape as an example. [Author: GMC Group]

Slim Console Tables

Last month, I bought an inexpensive black metal console table for my studio – I needed something slim in my tiny entry as a spot for dropping my keys and phone in the morning when I come to work. Underneath this skinny table I toss my shoes and backpack, I love having all my stuff in one place and easy to grab when I leave. All of us come home with our keys and phone and packages in hand and need a drop zone for setting them down. It can be tricky to find a table for a small entry or foyer that ...

Washingtonians Deserve Real Solutions, Not Bans Offering False Promises

Opinion: Duane Liptak is Executive Vice President of Magpul Industries Corporation, a manufacturer of firearm accessories. Washingtonians Deserve Real Solutions, Not Bans Offering False Promises Washington – -(AmmoLand.com)- Lawmakers in Olympia are convinced they’ve found the solution to solving the crime problem. Reducing crime, they seem to agree, is just a matter of reducing the capacity of how many rounds of ammunition can go into a magazine. They just can’t seem to agree on what that n...

Shape Up Collection by Roll & Hill

The Shape Up Collection of lighting by Roll & Hill was designed by Seattle-born, Brooklyn-based Ladies & Gentlemen Studio. The largest of the pieces is Shape Up 5-Piece Chandelier, which perhaps does the best job of highlighting the geometric playfulness of the collection. A modular system of cords and hubs, Shape Up 5-Piece Chandelier can be composed “in response to a space’s architecture and function.” The Cone and Hemisphere are available in three finishes: blackened steel, brushed brass, an...

Connecticut Gun Lawsuit Like ‘Prosecuting Car Makers For Crimes Of Car Thieves’

Opinion Connecticut Gun Lawsuit Like ‘Prosecuting Car Makers For Crimes Of Car Thieves’ BELLEVUE, WA – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Second Amendment Foundation today criticized the 4-3 split decision by the Connecticut state Supreme Court that reinstated a lawsuit against Remington Arms over how it marketed the Bushmaster rifle used in the tragic 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. “This ruling strains logic, if not common sense,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The cou...

The Best Free Dropbox Alternatives (For More Than 3 Devices)

Nopparat Khokthong/Shutterstock.com Dropbox now limits free users to a maximum of three syncing devices at one time. If you need more devices and don’t want to open your wallet, Google, Microsoft, and even Apple are superior to Dropbox. This is a similar restriction to the one Evernote put in place. Evernote’s free account only lets you sync your notes to two devices. Both services are clearly trying to convert more free users to paying customers. Google Drive – 15 GB Free Google G...

Process Interrupt for Calibre Search Error ?

Whenever an error is made in the syntax for a Calibre library search (e.g. today I accidentally mistyped the "t" resulting in "yiyle:" when I was trying to search for a book by its title), the Calibre search process just hangs for an indefinite time period. My quick-fix has been to terminate and restart Calibre. Two questions: 1. Are there any keystroke shortcuts that can immediately abort a faulty search request ? 2. Just curious what Calibre is actually doing when the search syntax is in...
