A Near-Miss in my Search for the Perfect Watering Can

Back in 2015 I wrote about my two perfect watering cans and one that I deemed “flawed,” according to the caption (above). I declared cans to be perfect thanks to two features I always look for – balance, so that you can carry them without spilling (which the flawed one couldn’t do), and a large enough opening for a nozzle. (Namely, the Dramm One-Touch I love because it stays on, instead of requiring constant hand pressure to keep it on.) Turns out, neither of my perfect cans made it through the...

David Hogg: “You’re A Terrible Shot” If You Need An AR-15 To Defend Yourself

Washington Examiner: David Hogg: “If you need an AR-15 to defend yourself you need more target practice because you’re a terrible shot.” First of all, he’s a liar and doesn’t really believe this because he’s not advocating that the police be disarmed of long guns, and has never done so.  He just wants the state to have a monopoly on violence.  It’s always enlightening to run things like this through the grits mill in order to see the hypocrisy of their views.  If you advocate disarming people ot...

There’s one in every crowd

This year’s winter was long. Long and cold and snowy, and spring feels like it hasn’t bothered to arrive. Sure, the flowers are starting to bloom, there’s crocus up in my garden (though it’s snowed on the poor little things a few times) and my neighbours have scilla and in a few glorious and sheltered spots there is evan a daffodil or two, but they are blooming in chilly temperatures and grey weather, barely above freezing. Spring isn’t a warm and lovely thing this year, at least not yet. (I hea...

My First Handgun – My Thoughts Then Vs Now

In 2003, I was a young shooter and really my only other experience with a handgun was with a 2nd generation Glock 17. Prior to owning my first gun, I spent a lot of time on Glocks and a Smith and Wesson 686 I loved. I researched for a couple months and still couldn’t figure […] Read More … The post My First Handgun – My Thoughts Then Vs Now appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

What Books and How Books

Business books tend to fall into one of two categories. The first categories are “what” books. These books teach you what you need to do, and they are good and useful as far as that goes. The second category of books is “how” books. The “how” books teach you how to do the “what.” What Books There are a lot of books about artificial intelligence and machine learning now. The new capabilities they enable are going to shape our future, for good or for ill—or more likely, both. These books are an ...

Free Download: Use Alexa Hands-Free on Any PC

Alexa just got more powerful on Windows 10. Amazon previously brought Alexa to Windows, but wake words only worked on some PCs. Now, Alexa can run in the background and listen for “Alexa” commands on any PC. Amazon’s voice assistant is more powerful than Windows 10’s built-in Cortana assistant. It works with many more smarthome devices, for example. But, until this update, Alexa didn’t support wake words on every PC. Wake words only worked on some PCs—on others, you had to click the Alexa butto...

Book Review: 110 Nature Hot Spots in Manitoba & Saskatchewan

The book 110 Nature Hot Spots in Manitoba and Saskatchewan will forever change your perception of the provinces. I don’t know how many times I have heard the comment – there is nothing to see or do on the prairies. Guess again. Both provinces are home to rich eco-systems. You just might have to look a little harder than in the Rockies. To that end Jenn Smith Nelson and Doug O’Neill, two talented Canadian travel writers, have penned a book that could forever change the look of your next road tr...

Prosperity Cycle versus Socialism: A Test of Republican Competence

Opinion Prosperity Cycle versus Socialism: A Test of Republican Competence USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said, “First you win the argument. Then you win the vote.” Friday’s report that the United States created 263,000 jobs in April—about 33 percent more than expected!!—should be a devastating blow to socialism if Republicans can force the argument. Jens Risom Textiles from Camira

The innovative textiles of iconic designer Jens Risom have received a vibrant revive courtesy of Camira Fabrics. The new iterations “Zap” and “Armadillo” imbibe the Risom spirit—that unique combination of Danism minimalism and American style—by “staying true to the feisty Risom original while adding bold refinement.” For Armadillo, Camira reduced the composition of nylon fiber while incorporating Flax yarn. The result is a durable and inherently flame resistant textile that ev...

Overdrive book due dates out of sync

Upon opening my Kobo Clara HD today, my library books from Overdrive are all expired, according to my Kobo ereader, but on my library website, they are unexpired, with the closest one to expiring being 8 days from now. Any idea why this is happening? How can I get them back in sync? I tried rechecking it out on the Kobo, but it won't let me. Very strange.

Garden Upgrades 2019, Part 1

Last year I used the word “manageable” to describe spring on the farm, and, I mean… that’s hilarious. I didn’t know that was even an adjective that existed in my vocabulary related to spring on the farm. But, to be fair, I was training for a few big adventures last spring/summer– and just started a brand new job– and I’m pretty sure I hadn’t slept in months. So I just did not engage in the farm last spring. No big upgrades. No major improvements. And–dear god–no new animals. Which, if you do the...
