Lesson Learned..

TIL Icons with/no text means that any text that would normally be in the column will not show. Took me a bit to figure out why my dates added column wasn't showing the dates for books that had their data embedded in them as shown by the icon in the date added column of the "green padlock". I am surprised it took me all this time for such a conflict to be shown. I am sure that somewhere in the past I had accidentally created a rule with no text in a text column. :)

Discussion On Custom AR-15 Barrels

Shooting Sports USA: Custom barrel manufacturers like Obermeyer, Krieger, Lilja, Hart, Douglas, Schneider and other companies which go by the maker’s last name, are your best assurance of good quality. That’s not to say that other maker’s barrels―let’s call them “semi-custom”―don’t shoot as well, but it is to suggest a lower element of risk involved in your satisfaction. I think it’s wise to request a stainless steel barrel since they will, on average, shoot a little better for a little longer. ...

How to Build an Ultralight AR-15

Ultralight AR-15 U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- The AR-15 has the widest variety of possible configurations of any rifle out there.  From unwieldy “longbow” builds to ultra-short “Han Solo” style single shots, AR builders have long been pushing the platform to extremes.  One direction many have gone is the Ultralight AR-15 route:  there's a 100 page (and counting) thread on AR15.com where some builders have trimmed their rifles down to 2.5 pounds by dropping every ounce possible and counting each g...

iPad Whispersync for Kindle app screwed up

I’m having issues lately with Whispersync not syncing with the Kindle for iOS app. I manually synced on both my iPad and my iPhone today (May 13) and both say it last synced on April 21 and wants to take me back a few chapters. I never had this issue before. I just installed iOS 12.3 on both devices, but doubt it is connected to the issue.

upper and lowercase file names

I've been going around in circles all day today trying to figure out why my css wasn't working. When I added a style sheet (right clicking on the Styles folder) to the empty epub file that Sigil creates when you start it, in the xhtml file I typed in the link line, or I copied and pasted the link line from another file and then changed the name of the css file. All this time I never noticed that the name in the href= was style0001.css while the file's name was Style0001.css. It seems like som...

The English Patient ~ Michael Ondaatje

Twenty-seven years since it won the Booker Prize in 1992 (maybe check my maths as usual) twenty-two years since I read The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje in 1997, a lot happened that year, more or less in this order from January... I started six years of an OU degree in English Literature... My mum died... I had a full-time health visiting caseload of about 400 children... I was sub-poenaed to give evidence in court in a child protection case concerning a family the multi-agency service...

confused about style inheritance

I thought that styling applied to upper level tags was inherited by tags that were enclosed in them. E.g., any styling on the html tag would be inherited by the body tag and/or any styling on the body tag would be inherited by the p tags. But that doesn't seem to be the case. My css file contains Code: body {     font-size: 100%;     border-bottom: 0;     border-top: 0;     margin-bottom: 0;     margin-top: 0;     padding-bottom: 0;     padding-top: 0; } p {     display: bl...

TFB REVIEW: The New SIG Rattler Canebrake

Multiple variants of SIG’s widely successful MCX Rattler were brought to this year’s SHOT Show.  SIG seems keen to show off the versatility of the Ratter platform. ‘Imagine if Media Treated Gun Rights Groups Honestly,’ Says Writer

Students and parents criticized a vigil-turned-political-stunt in Colorado. (Screen snip, YouTube, KUSA) U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- Buried near the end of a 916-word Op-ed for Fox News discussing the recent walkout of students and parents at a vigil-turned-gun-control-event, writer and best-selling author Frank Miniter drives a rhetorical wooden stake deep into the heart of the media’s bias against guns and people who own them. “Political differences aside,” Miniter proffers, “imagine if the me...

Democrats Show Partisan Hypocrisy in Contempt Treatments

Issue with Manage Tags since 3.40.1 update

Hi all, Long time user, last year version 3.21 made "manage tags" heaps more user friendly by making the "search" show only items that matched rather than highlighting them in the full list like before. I loved this change as it made it so easy to delete/merge tags. However since 3.40.1 I've been having the following issue, for both standard and user created categories, were the changes you make to a tag (delete/edit etc) aren't preserved unless you click okay and exit the tag browser after ...

Check Out the Wily Wilkhahn Occo Side Chair

The Wilkhahn Occo Side Chair (SC), designed by jehs + laub, is a worthy addition to the company’s 221 line of chairs and tables. The chair’s slim profile and distinctive cutout design “offer superior comfort and enable the adoption of different postures.” The new chair is versatile as well. SC can be ...

Walter Kuhn has been taking race photos for more than 40 years, and he's got the scars to prove it:"Kuhn said he was "less than an inch" from losing his life in March 1998 when a driver crashed during the last practice before a race in Phoenix, causing a tire to fly through the fence and hit Kuhn right in the head. He's got the scars to show it, but that's not all. As it turns out, Kuhn captured the very tire that hit him just moments before it all happened." The video may not scale so you may ...

At least it's entertaining?

From the WaPo:"Then, this past February, Trump announced on Twitter that Americans should “HOLD THE DATE!” on July 4 for a “Major fireworks display, entertainment and an address by your favorite President, me!”"This is, of course, like anything else done by President Camacho (to include breathing) an absolute red cape waved before the bull of the press, and triggers more hand-wringing and Won't Somebody Do Something? . Browser Line Density

I've recently gone to a smaller font in the Browser. In the TAG Browser, the new font has meant a denser view. The grid itself though, the font's smaller, but the density is the same. I see 38 books with a healthy spacing between each line. I'd like to reduce the inter-line spacing and maybe get 44-46 lines per screen in the browser. BUT I can't find a setting that will help me in that regard, I DID reduce the spacing setting to negative 20, but that's as far as it will let me go. I SUSPECT the...
