Morning Time Savers for a More Organized Day

The following is a guest post about morning time savers for a more organized day from regular contributor, Kristin at The Gold Project . The weekday mornings are really hectic around my house. Some days, everything runs smoothly and we are actually ahead of schedule. Then, other times, it seems like I am running in slow motion and nothing is getting accomplished on time. I have learned that if I take a few extra steps the night before, then the mornings run a lot smoother. Plus, everyon...

Parents and children

When I was young, my parents sent me to a mental institution three times ( 1966, 1967, 1968). The reasons in my medical files are banal. It was said that I was isolated, hostile and miserable at school. I was not crazy but I was rather just a 17-year-old who really wanted to become a […]

How to automatically download metadata when adding books

Ok so when i add books it does not automatically download the metadata. Sure enough if i then go to that book and select 'download metadata and covers' in 'Edit Metadata' it finds the metadata and all good. I have looked in the Preferences in the setting for 'Adding books' but cannot see which would be best to automatically 'download metadata and covers' when adding the book? What am i missing?

POTD: SVD and M700 Marksmanship Training

POTD, short for Photo Of The Day, is TFB’s recurring articles where we do our best to find the best firearms related pictures out there. Today East meets West, or perhaps it’s vice versa? Server chokes on specific library

Hello! I'm using Calibre with three libraries. For one of the libraries (and only that one) when I try to list more books (either in Calibre Companion at offset 60 or the web page) the code throws an error and doesn't produce more books. How the books are sorted doesn't seem to matter, so it's unlikely a specific ebook causing the problem. I'm attaching the output from the server for the error with Calibre Companion and the Web Interface. Attached File...

Designer Profile: Barber & Osgerby

Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby began their careers fresh on the heels of graduation from a Master’s Program in Architecture at London’s Royal College of art. And what a beginning it was: their initial foray into design produced none other than the Loop Table. Originally conceived of as the accompaniment for low seating at a London restaurant, Loop was ushered into production by Isokon+ then commissioned into the Cappellini collection at the Milan furniture fair. Soon after, its lightweight precis...

The Inspiration of a Guiding Star: Jardim da Estrela

My mind was made up 43 years ago after a week filled with cheap vino tinto, emotional Fado music and lots of walking up and down steep hills in Lisbon. In a park, off the busy, beaten path, I found an inspiration for a horticultural career. The Jardim da Estrela was my guiding star. I professed solemn vows in 1976: I would love parks and gardens forever. Before I arrived in Portugal I had traveled on the cheap across the United Kingdom, Holland, France and Spain. Dog-eared pages of Arthur Fr...

TFB LIGHTNING REVIEW: Colt Woodsman, Having A Blast With The Past

Most of our reviews here at TFB involve more modern products that are still available from manufacturers.  However, after borrowing a family member’s Colt Woodsman, I was pleasantly surprised with it. Aura ONE final judgment: good but could be fantastic

Kobo Aura One is no longer in production, I would say that we can give a final judgment. In the end it is a good reader, but it didn't take much for it to be fantastic. A 7.8 "screen with 300 DPI, I think it was the first player with such a big screen to have lighting, surely it was the first reader to have comfort light, I also believe it was the first to have overdrive for those countries where the service is active (not Italy, unfortunately, but I can always use ADE). Unfortunately, many Kob...

Access Log

Hello all, I'm somewhat new to Calibre server. I have it setup currently running through noIP to make it so I can access my collection when I'm out on my work runs. I have a few questions on what some lines are indicating in my Access Log. I would assume that they are portscans, but I'm sure others here have a more in depth knowledge of what they are. I currently have my firewall setup to block a few countries that I was constantly getting hits from. 87.10.175.94 port-56891 - 09/Oct/2019:03:47...
