Elsa In A Bottle

As you know I love The character Elsa, from Frozen and Frozen 2. I thought it would be a cool idea to make a “snowglobe” or a small version of her and her castle. The only tricky part was that I was trying to make her out of an origami doll that I failed to make (it was pretty sad) so I pasted some pieces of paper together to look like Elsa and the train on her gown. I’m very please with this! [Author: Kinhime Dragon]

Bottled Pot Of Gold

I found out about the book from a book giveaway (ironically on cutout andkeep). I entered the giveaway knowing I would not win but then I decided to get the book on amazon. So that problem was solved. Then one of the diagrams in the book inspired me to make a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! So I did. It was really tricky but I’m glad how it turned out [Author: Kinhime Dragon]

Same, but different...

Last year, when I was still using the full-frame Sony cameras for work and had a Canon 5D Mark II as a play camera, I picked up an old Canon 7D body to play around with. The 7D came out in late 2009 as, basically, an APS-C sensor version of the 5D series. It had the same control layout and ruggedized construction as the semipro 5D Mk II, with the biggest difference, other than sensor size, being that the crop sensor 7D had an on-board flash. So, fast forward a year later when I'm using Canon bodie...

Ah, so that's what everyone meant...

Early in the stay-at-home days of the pandemic, call it 4/6 or so, before Bobbi was out sick for a bit, I watched the first half or so of the pilot of Breaking Bad.Last Saturday morning, I watched the rest of that first episode, then episodes two, three, and four in rapid succession. It hooked me in a way the first couple of episodes of Justified has yet failed to do*. Bobbi and I are now well along in season one of the show and I'm completely hooked.* I'm assured that the second season of Justi...

Profiles in Courage...

So, some folks at a company in France pooled in to buy one of their execs a birthday treat: A ride in the back seat of an Armée de l'Air Dassault Rafale B fighter jet as part of a three-ship aerobatic training flight. The 64-y.o. dude in question had never ridden in a fighter jet before, and nobody thought to ask him if this was a thing he'd be interested in. In fact, he was terrified. But he showed no indication of his fear and climbed aboard. As the jet passed through 2500 feet on its climb-out,...

Got me yet another tablet

Samsung 5se. 64GB and a 128GB SD Card. On sale at best buy. I wanted to get the S6 but this was pretty much the same thing but $200 cheaper. It's been years and years since I had a high-end android tablet. I am impressed. Huge performance improvement compared to Samsungs low-end Galaxy A 8" and only paid $100 more. I was ultra annoyed of the sluggishness of the 8" especially when using an app on stored the SD card' This Galaxy 5se is comparable in performance of my iPad Pro 11". The screen...

html tags always have a class?

When I edit books that I buy or download from Project Gutenberg they always have classes on almost every html tag. For example, every p tag has the class pindent or some such. Then the CSS will have something like ".pindent { text-indent ...}". When I'm fixing a book, in the CSS I'll just have a plain p with the necessary formatting; "p { text-indent: ...}" Is there some reason, for compatibility, safety, etc. for them doing that?

Literally Cooked Kobo Glo HD

I plugged my reader in to charge this afternoon and came back to it about an hour later. The screen was frozen / unresponsive and there was a spot on the back of the reader that was very hot. I tried the reset button as well as the power / reset button with no effect. I took it down to my workbench and pulled the back cover off. I ended up burning my thumb (not too badly) when I touched the small-ish rectangular IC toward the bottom of the reader from the microSD card slot. That's a Ricoh RC5T...

Best practice for handling multiple variants of the same books?

I'm curious what people generally consider the best practice for having multiple versions of a book. Not just different formats of the same text, but actually different versions like maybe the book was re edited years later and/or different publisher, or it was a book that originated in another language and you have different translations of it (like a Japanese light novel that may of had a fan translation then years later they get official translations or was translated officially by different ...

Six on Saturday – After the Rain

I’ve been moving a lot of plants around over the last couple of weeks partly to clear the Big Border for edibles but also to address some of the plants that have outgrown their space or just aren’t looking great any more.  It has made be really aware of how dry the soil was becoming and I have found myself having to get the hose out several times a week to try... Office Chair by Carlo Mollino

In a New York auction of Phillips in 2014 this chair designed in 1959 for Carlo Mollino’s office at the Facoltà di Architettura, Politecnico di Torino and Produced by Apelli & Varesio, was sold for a whopping $758,500. What makes this object so special? It is necessary to clarify that Mollino was not an industrial designer; he was not interested in designing objects for industrial production, which would require compromising the object in order to keep down production costs, to allow for mass ...

Bookmarks Display

Koreader 2020.03 is great. One little thing though. When I read a foreign language on my PW2 I will highlight an unknown word, edit it and add the english meaning. I will later view my bookmarks to review. On 2019.09.02, the last version I had, when i open bookmarks, I could see the translation I just wrote. On v2020.03 the bookmark font is bigger so I can't see what I wrote. I like the new bigger font. If the date and time did were invisible I could see my note. Is there a way to stop ko...

Between the rolling hills and snow-covered mountains stretching into the clouds, the picturesque landscape has been a go-to skiing destination for decades.
