Backing up the library structure and metadata only (without the book files)?

Is there an option to backup the library metadata database and the library structure (i.e. the folders), without backing up the whole library, i.e. the ebook files themselves? Specifically, backing up the folder structure, the metadata.db, metadata_db_prefs_backup.json, and the .opf files in each folder? The reason for asking is this: Calibre manages the library by managing those metadata files aforementioned. The actual ebook files themselves (the .epub) are seldomly altered. The danger of a c...

Earth Day for Naturist Gardeners and iNaturalist

Naked Gardening We get press releases about naked gardening occasionally, especially for World Naked Gardening Day (yes, it’s a thing). So I wasn’t surprised to see nudity being suggested as a way to celebrate Earth Day. Except this is 2020, when promoting “festivities” at clubs, resorts and campgrounds for “naturists” (people who practice nudity for reasons of health or religion) makes no sense. The press release from a nude recreation association was dated April 18, when surely all those plac...

Alice Waters’ daughter Fanny Singer dishes in a new book

Fanny Singer has never been too far from her legendary mother, Chez Panisse founder Alice Waters. Right now, they’re closer than ever, sheltering in place at Waters’ Berkeley home — but they’ve always been connected by their shared love of cooking and food. In her new memoir “Always Home: A Daughter’s Recipes & Stories” (Knopf, $35), Singer, 36, recalls her childhood, growing up around the Chez Panisse kitchen and Waters’ always-burning fireplace. It’s a love letter, of sorts, from a daughter to...

B&T APC9SD Sub Gun: A Look At A True Unicorn – Video Review

U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- Unicorn Gun: A firearm so rare, so hard to obtain, that it is compared to the mythical beast. The rare creature that is able to give you the thing that you always wanted, but thought that you could never have. I’m a huge fan of Brugger and Thomet; I have their regular APC9, and it is easily one of the best sub guns I have ever shot. That feeling is usually shared by just about anyone else who picks it up. When I was asked if I would like to review the integrally suppr...

Smoke Composites Carbon Fiber AR-15 Handguard – Review

Smoke Composites Carbon Fiber AR-15 Handguard – Review U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)-  Just over six months ago, I covered Smoke Composites' Carbon Fiber forend for the AR-15 platform.  I really liked the forend at the time, and still do.  However, the version I picked up at the time was slick, with no picatinny rails to strap iron sights/accessories onto.  Sure, I could have added some Magpul M-LOK 3-, 5-, or 7-slot polymer rail sections.  Instead, I wanted to get my grubby mitts on the version wi...

The Trump administration has overturned one of the longest-standing gun-free zones in America. Converting from epub to pdf fails

Please Help Me I can no longer convert any of my epubs to pdf for some reason. I could see if it was just one book once in awhile, but now it's all my books. One consistent thing I notice within the 'Details' option of the failed conversion window, is that near the bottom of the log, it always says "index_split_006.html: Loading not complete after 120 (or 60) seconds, aborting." If this is the crux of the problem, how does one go about working around it? If it is not the problem, then what else ...

Splitting many large html files

So I know from the manual and from another thread that you can only split on one html file at a time. But I have a book with 60+ large files that I'd like to split, and rather than opening each one and right-clicking and splitting on I would just prefer to automate it. Can that be done with a conversion and XPath somehow? The book is currently in AZW3 format.

Now, more than ever, it's time to use cat hair for crafting

We bought in 2013 when my daughter was 10. She started brushing our three cats and saving their hair in a plastic bag. Her first cat hair project was this little cat. If you aren't allergic to cats, why not take a break from Netflix and crossword puzzles and make something from your cats fur?

Wrong covers show on my Nook?

Not sure if this is a Sigil question or an ePub question (or even a Nook question). But whenever I edit an ePub with Sigil and use the Add Cover tool to replace the original cover, and then send the edited file to my Nook, the original cover invariably shows. For instance, I just sent The Hunchback of Notre Dame to my Nook. Opening the ePub with Sigil, the cover added using Sigil shows. But when sent to my Nook using Calibre, it still displays the original file, 0008.jpeg as the cover, rather th...
