More Covid Pedalbored (sic) futzing

Decided to put my most oft used pedals all on the Metro 16 for use with the Boogie as I’m more using the JC-22 for jazzing. I also had the RV-6 sitting idle so wanted to give it a home. How long will it last in this configuration? Who can tell.

Daily Prime - Transformers Junior Convoy / Optimus Prime

Today we're taking a step down from previous posts with a look at the Japanese exclusive transformers Junior Convoy figure. Starting in 1986 as the "Gokin" series, then revived as the Takara "TF Jr" (Transformers Junior) series in 1987. You may have seen the Optimus Prime figure without realizing it because they look pretty good at first sight.

Boyue Likebook Mars and ghosting

Hello there! In this video, it's pointed out that he Mars displays some heavy ghosting of previous pages when reading comics, something that apparently doesn't happen on the Kindle Oasis. I wonder if this problem is inherent to the Likebook Mars, or a matter of configuration and/or using an e-ink friendly reading app. I understand that KOreader is one, so maybe using it, I could set the device to refresh after every page turn and so get rid of the ghosting showed in the video? My main use for t...

No Charges for White Father & Son Who Chased Down & Fatally Shot Black Man Jogging in South Georgia Neighborhood

25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery was jogging in a quiet suburban neighborhood near his home in Brunswick, Georgia back in February when he was pursued, shot, and killed by a father-son duo who suspected him of committing robberies in the area. However, months later, a prosecutor said the pursuers were justified in their actions because of Georgia’s citizen’s arrest law, and they will not be facing any charges for the time being. Ahmaud Arbery was a former football player and enjoyed running to stay fit...

Unbrick Kindle Voyage?

About a week ago I tried to manually update my Voyage to the latest firmware update, but it no longer boots up or connects to USB host. Shows splash screen and there it sits. The front light stays on until the battery drains. Any way to wake it from its coma? I used to have a special USB cable that was supposed to help recover a bricked Android device, but it didn’t work and I have no idea where it is now or if there is something like that which works on a Kindle. Amazon CS seemed disintereste...

“Saving to disk” – How to save books with a shorter title length in filename?

Hello, I intend to save my books from Caibre library to a disk and I’m using the function “Save to disk”. Sometimes the result is a very long EPUB filename, mainly due to the title length of some books, e.g.: “The Language of Emotional Intelligence: The Five Essential Tools for Building Powerful and Effective Relationships” I’m looking for a automatic way to save book title with a shorter length. I looked in “Calibre User Manual” but the only thing I found was only how to limit the length by...

Math Games vs. Math Curriculum

My heart has been changing about math over the last year or so. I’ve been a curriculum gal from the beginning (Saxon, yeah!) and we have stuck pretty much to a lesson a day since we started homeschooling 7 years ago. But you live and learn, right?!?  Some of my kids are not math lovers, […]

the first plants in Mom’s garden

I planted a bunch of plants in my mother’s garden last Saturday. Lettuce, peas, spinach, arugula, parsley and beets. Then we dragged her very long hose out and watered things in. It’s still pretty cool here, often dropping to low 30’s at night. I haven’t planted anything out in my garden yet. In fact, I...

How to Know the Wildflowers

As April’s daffodils fade, a new beginning comes with May’s abundance of wildflowers, spring ephemerals and flowering trees and shrubs. The daffodils had the irresistible charm of heralding the start of spring, but for me this year, chilly, wet and windy as it was, it’s the month of May that offers flowers of the most endearing charm.  Delicate ephemeral May-blooming wildflowers evoke an old-fashioned connection to nature, since they’re mostly seen in undisturbed naturalistic settings. I also co...

SCOTUS Moots NYC 2A Case, Could Hear New Jersey Carry Challenge

While the SCOTUS shot down a recent challenge to handgun laws, this may open up an opportunity for an ANJRPC case. U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- April 28, 2020. Yesterday the U.S. Supreme Court decided that a long-pending NYC Second Amendment challenge was mooted by law changes made after the case was filed. The decision ends speculation that the High Court might use the NYC case to establish new rules applicable to all Second Amendment cases in the future. It also means that ANJRPC’s pending challe...

Dealing with homonyms/multiple words with the same inflection?

I'm currently working on a Slovak-German dictionary for personal use, and I've come across a confusing problem. There are certain entries from the dict.cc data which are effectively the same word, or are at least spelled the same way, but have, for example, very different meanings depending on context. What I want is for the dictionary to pull up multiple different entries when one of these homonyms is selected. I know this is somehow possible, as it's been very effectively implemented in Dude...

mushrooms!!!

I was amazed to notice today that I had Shitake mushrooms growing on logs I cultured last winter. Wow!! My husband and I drilled lots of little holes and hammered in a lot of mushroom cultures that I bought. Five or six types, each on the type of wood they preferred. These Shitake’s are called...

Supreme Court Punts Second Amendment Case back to Lower Courts

As SCOTUS Hears 2A Case, Bloomberg Reveals Fear of Gun Rights Victory, iStock-1020504756 U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- The long-awaited ruling on the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. City of New York, was issued on 27 April, 2020.  The Supreme Court resolved almost nothing.  The Court held the case was moot, because the City of New York and the State of New York changed their law, so as to prevent the Court from ruling on the case. The Court merely maintained the unsatisfactory status ...

Right to Left Languages

Hello, For languages reading from right to left, is it possible to edit the direction the book reads? It was a PDF I converted to AZW3, so it initially read from up to down, which wasn't as disorienting as it is to now turn from left to right, and read from right to left. I tried adding the following line of css: extra_css="body {direction: rtl;}" But the pages still turn from left to right in both AZW3 and ePub. My experience with css is next to none, so it’s possible I am just making an er...
