Daily Prime - Alloy Convoy w/ Matrix Lights Our Darkest Hour

Back in early the 2000s, just about anything Transformers was a rarity. Today, it probably seems a bit strange that Takara made gobs of Transformers Super Collection Figures figures. Sold in 10 different ACTs (waves), each character replicated faithfully from their cartoon robot modes, some from memorable scenes in the Transformers past.

"Anti-Intellectualism"

Those of us on the putative "Right" are often - and loudly - accused of "anti-intellectualism."  One of their favorite memes is this one: This was most recently illustrated on CNN's Tonight program when two of his guests, well, watch it yourself:Now, I'm not going to say that there aren't such people on the right side of the divide, but the Left paints us ALL with a brush that should be reserved for a tiny minority. The theme of "anti-intellectualism!!" is wound through their worldview, and I ...

Do all/most e-readers use PWM?

Do all/most e-readers use PWM? I was looking into the Kobo Libra and apparently it doesn't have the PWM flickering issue that the Kobo Forma has. I've tried out the Forma when it was released and from what I understand, the flickering issue was only from adjusting the brightness. Regardless, it doesn't bother me, but I am curious if the Kobo Libra uses PWM and just doesn't have the flickering issue or if it doesn't use PWM outright. I have learned that PWM causes fatigue even if it's unoticeabl...

Friday Night Lights: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly Of Civilian Lasers

Shooting with night vision is a lot of fun. One piece of equipment that makes shooting under NODs easy is a good laser. While there is a whole wide range of lasers to choose from, we will focus on three of the most popular lasers that are available for civilian use. The Good, the Bad, […] Read More … The post Friday Night Lights: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly Of Civilian Lasers appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Virtual Libraries to show on server main page

Hi all. I have 3 virtual libraries in Calibre. One is "PDF", another "Art" and another "Comics". When I log into my server through my browser, I get the standard "Calibre" button showing. Is it possible for this opening page to display not just the main library button but also the three virtual libraries? For example, say I want to look at all the books that deal with Art. A button for this virtual library would appear next to the "Calibre" button (along with another button for comics and a...

Broadway’s Hermione, Noma Dumezweni, Reads the Second Chapter in the ‘Harry Potter at Home’ Series

The Harry Potter franchise wouldn’t be the global phenomenon it was today without the book that started it all, Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone (The Philospher’s Stone when it was first published in the U.K.). And while we’re all stuck in quarantine, everyone has taken to revisiting things they love. And all the stars and featured players of the Harry Potter franchise are doing the same, through the Harry Potter at Home initiative launched by J.K. Rowling back in April. The chosen one him...

Octavia Butler’s sci-fi and speculative fiction moves toward screen adaptations

By HILLEL ITALIE Novelist N.K. Jemisin was a teenager the first time she read Octavia Butler, and nothing had prepared her for it. It was the 1980s, and the book was called “Dawn,” the story of a black woman who awakens 250 years after a nuclear holocaust. “I remember just kind of being stunned that a black woman existed in the future, because science fiction had not done that before,” says Jemisin, whose “The City We Became” is currently a bestseller. “There was just this conspicuous absence wh...

Android: Google Cloud Drive Possible Interruption

Hello CC Users, Just a heads up, there are a limited amount of Google Cloud user accounts currently because the app has not been approved for Oauth unlimited user rates. As we continue to work with the app and find more and more legacy issues, we are working hard to make sure the app stays stable for you. This is most likely coming up due to our upgrades to the APIs that were becoming old. So just know the following: 1. Google Cloud Auth service may be interrupted for certain users 2. We ar...

NSSF to Canada: Ottawa… We’ve Got a Shotgun Problem

By Larry Keane Canadian Prime Minster Justin Trudeau passed legislation recently that banned over 1,500 different firearms, including over-under shotguns. U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is either devilishly stupid or devilishly underhanded. With Canada’s Boy Wonder, sometimes the differences are difficult to discern. The Canadian head-of-state’s unilateral gun grab that bans 1,500 makes and models of modern sporting rifles under the guise of an “assault-style” firearm...

MD Gov. Hogan Vetoes Ban on Private Transfers of Long Guns

Governor Larry Hogan upheld the rights of legal gun-owners in MD. IMG NRA-ILA U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- Long guns represent the smallest fraction of all firearms used in crimes in the United States. Despite this, most Democratic politicians can't stop wringing their hands over the prospect of banning them. Recently, Maryland was the target of one such ban. Where Democrats sought to prevent lawful gun owners from privately transferring shotguns and rifles. Thankfully, Governor Larry Hogan vetoed ...

Cross-reference/index/quote/metadata

I have a simple issue I'm sure has been solved, but I don't seem to be phrasing my searches right. In short, I want to enter data once, and then quote/refer to it in the visible text of a page. Specifically, I want to enter ISBN numbers once and refer to them in two different places. One ISBN number will be for the e-book edition (and thus is in the opf metadata), and the other is for the paperback edition (and thus is not in the metadata). It seems like I could create a custom metadata field ...

“Naoroji: Pioneer of Indian Nationalism” Review: Portrait of an Independent Mind

A member of the British House of Commons at a time when Indians in India couldn’t vote, he argued that the empire was impoverishing his homeland. By Tunku Varadarajan | Wall Street Journal When the British government announced in 2014 that it would install a statue of Mohandas Gandhi in London’s Parliament Square, there were complaints in certain quarters that the wrong anticolonial Indian was being honored in the heart of an erstwhile empire. The statue, some said, should be not of the...

Canadian Cops Take Down Star Wars Storm Trooper for Toy Gun – Video

U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- On 4 May, a small restaurant in Alberta, Canada was using a person with a Star Wars stormtrooper costume as a promotion.  The Coco Vanilla Galactic Cantina is located at 531 13th St. North, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. metadta changes aren't saved into epub file

I fully admit I'm new to Calibre and making epub metadata changes. I have made changes to my epub metatadata, but even after saving, the epub file doesn't reflect those changes when I drag/drop that file onto my ipad. I make a change to the info, hit save. Go to file explorer, drag the epub onto my device. In some cases, the dat...
