Classical Nerdery

Interesting Twitter threat if you're into Ancient Rome or Victorian art...or both. In Disney's Hercules (1997), after Herc and Meg ditch Phil to go on a date, they stroll through a statue garden. They talk a bit, things are awkward, Meg trips down the stairs, and Herc catches her before carrying her over to a bench. But it's much, much more than a bench! By Jove!

While we're on the subject of space, there are some really amazeballs photos of Jupiter here. By combining imagery from Earthbound telescopes, the Hubble up in orbit, and the Juno probe, they're finding a lot of neat stuff. For instance, check out that ring of cyclones around the planet's south pole, and the amazing Hubble shot of the Jovian aurora borealis. .  [Author: Tam]

How can I manage two different columns holding the same data?

I want some help or suggestions on keeping track of, and maintaining two different custom columns with tags shown in the browser. The columns hold the same information but one is hierarchal, and one isn’t. It’s a book source column. It’s been around almost as long as I have had Calibre. It started with Amazon, Kindle Unlimited, and Library, but it has grown over the years to 50 different tags. I can’t change the tags or the column because it’s in use in tweaks, plugins, and rules. On their o...

TFB REVIEW: New Battle Rifle – SIG Sauer TREAD 716i AR-10

Dear diary. It feels like an eternity since I have expressed my thoughts and feelings to you. When we last spoke I was in the middle of a love triangle. Daily Prime - Super Link Wing Convoy Is Just Grand

Back when Energon was cheap, we could count on leader class figures having some serious weight to them. Today's shot takes a look at one of the bigger and grander toys from the Super Link days of 2004. What fans dubbed "fattimus" Prime for his big body and skinny legs in his powered-down mode. Was more than made up for with his Super Modes combined with the Prime Force attachments from his trailer or in combination with Wing Saber.

Thank you...and tomorrow...

I wanted to say a huge thank you to all who left a comment on the VE Day post. I'm still replying to each of you, and I will reply to everyone, but one of the highlights of the whole emotional day was reading those stories here and from people across my social media places, about their parents' and friends' wartime experiences. It made me realise how so many of us treasure those memories with so much love and pride and so the flame of gratitude burns on from one generation to the next. It was ...

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report. In this ongoing series we discover, review, and discuss anything and everything surrounding the rimfire firearm world. next/previous chapter

I read my epub books on my phone using Chrome using the viewer from the Calibre server. This works very well for me, except that besides next/previous page controls to the right and left of the screen, there is also next/previous chapter controls at the top and bottom. Unfortunately, because of the size of the screen, I occasionally swipe the wrong part of the screen and get to the next chapter rather than the next page. To get back to where I was in the last chapter, I either go back to the beg...

Re-download changed book

I maintain my Calibre library on my laptop and usually read the books on my Android phone. To do so, I start the server on the laptop and go to it on the phone, select Chrome, go to the URL for the Calibre server, select the library, find the book I want to read, select it, then click the Read button. This downloads the book and opens it for reading. All this works fine. However, sometimes I find something I don't like about the format of the book, so I return to the laptop, edit the book in Ca...

Would a waterproof case work with Onyx?

I'm thinking about getting a case like this, and an Onyx tab, but would there be any issues with using an e-ink with such a case? https://www.komplett.no/product/1138...deksel#reviews Let me know if you've tried such cases before. I see they get mediocre reviews on Amazon with regards to regular tablets.

Wake Up: COVID-19 Pandemic Not Impeding Anti-Gun Activism

Fund raising to protect the Second Amendment is a priority because anti-gunners are already spending millions of dollars to elect pro-gun control politicians in November. (Dave Workman) U.S.A. –-(Ammoland.com)- Lest anyone think “stay home, stay safe” coronavirus orders have slowed down the anti-Second Amendment gun control crusade, guess again, because gun prohibition lobbying groups are alive and adjusting to “the new normal” by planning fund raising activities and political efforts to cont...

Tweak for setting tags browser order

I am not sure how this works. I tried to use it to have my genre and bookshelf tags be first, but it never worked. The tweak rule describes: "Example: tag_browser_category_order = {'series':1, 'tags':2, '*':3} resulting in the order series, tags, then everything else in default order." Does this mean that custom columns are excluded? The way I see this it seems that the series and then the tags are first with everything else being after. I understand that the '*' indicates any or all, bu...

Auto launching apps automatically on system startup?

Say I have a jailbroken paperwhite 4. I do so great. Sometimes koreader crashes on big chunky files and the Kindle restarts. I don't blame koreader, I think it's amazing. But then I'll sometimes forget to start up syncthing when it restarts. And as soon as the kindle is started up, running syncthing, I'd like it to jump into koreader. Anyway to get this set up as default behavior? Or should I just do the 'hard work' of clicking a few buttons via KUAL on each startup?

Calibre Companion not remembering Userid or Password

I've been using Calibre Companion for some time. Last week it started prompting me for userid and password. When I try to user the userid / password remembered by Android, it fails to login. If I completely retype both the userid and password it works. I deleted the password from Android, and resaved, still prompted for userid and password on every connect to Content Server. Any Ideas on how to get Calibre Companion to remember userid and password to connect to content server?
