Quickly tagging/categorizing books via keyboard

Hello everyone! I finally collected all of my ebooks in Calibre (I have many cookbooks). The problem is, I probably only care about 20% of the books I have and I want to quickly sort them between "keepers" and "archivers". The simplest thing would be to go through them one by one and tag each one as such. The problem I am having is that it is quite cumbersome to do this, as I either need to drag each book individually to the tag, or edit the metadata. Both take a long time. I'd ideally just l...

Memorial Day Rose

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY And what better way to celebrate than with a Memorial Day Rose? This orchid pink hybrid tea was an All-America Rose Selections winner in 2004. One bloom is said to be enough to fill an entire room with its strong damask scent. It's a medium-tall, upright shrub,... [Author: Jane Berger]

When I import metadata, how can I make default rating "Not Rated"?

When I get books, I press Control-D to get metadata on them. Some books come with a rating anywhere between 1 to 5 stars. I don't care how people have rated the book. I care about how I would rate it. So how can I get all newly acquired books to start off with "No rating" and to ignore whatever rating is pulled when I pull metadata from the internet?

Friday Night Lights: Dual Tube Spotlight – AGM NVG-50

A rather newcomer to the night vision industry, AGM Global Vision has a budget-friendly dual tube night vision goggle called the NVG-50. Actually, it looks a lot like the ARMASIGHT BNVD-51 which was brought under FLIR for a time. The NVG-50 is feature-packed and boasts a 50° FOV all for an affordable price of just […] Read More … The post Friday Night Lights: Dual Tube Spotlight – AGM NVG-50 appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Have you ever stained an ereader screen? If so, how?—I would like to stain mine.

I know the thread title sounds ridiculous, but hear me out. The light gradient on my Kobo Forma is subtle but it's driving me crazy. I thought I would get used to it, and maybe I still will, but I don't think I can until I've satisfied myself that I've tried everything I can to mitigate it. The gradient on mine follows the usual pattern. There is a light bar next to the buttons, which doesn't bother me. Next to that light bar is a large darkish patch. With the screen light on, it looks almost ...

MOBI to EPUB error broken data stream

Looking for a way to complete the conversion of a MOBI into EPUB. I'm getting this error "IOError: broken data stream when reading image file" I have attached the whole log, as copied from the details in the error message. Is there a Calibre conversion setting I can use to ignore images? Is there a MOBI file editor app I can use to get rid of the broken data stream in the image? (I can't use Calibre's editor because the file has to be in EPUB format.) ...

Canadian Gun-Grabber Admits Disarmament is the Ultimate Goal

What do you call a system where the rulers can deploy enforcers with “weapons of war” and the ruled are disarmed by diktat? (Royal Canadian Mounted Police/Facebook) U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “The government has finally moved to ban military-style assault rifles. Great. So now let's go to the next step, a complete and comprehensive ban on the sale and ownership of all handguns,” Canadian Broadcasting Corporation opinion writer Tony Keene demands. It’s not just “military-style assault rifles.” ...

Chair Collector: Michael Boyd

Time to ask the reader’s attention for an important chair collector: Michael Boyd and his wife Gabrielle. Boyd was working as a music composer for advertising, television and film, in San Francisco when he and his wife, Gabrielle Doré, and their two sons, relocated to Manhattan. They had purchased the iconic Beekman Place townhouse of Paul Rudolph, which was in desperate need of renovation after the modernist architect’s death in 1997. At the time, Boyd was already known as a serious collector...

I Can Find Nothing to Disagree With in This Piece

I am a pessimist by nature, shocking admission, I know.  But being a pessimist I am very seldom disappointed, and occasionally pleasantly surprised.I do not expect to be pleasantly surprised by the fallout from this:Forget About Seeing Any Justice For ObamagateExcerpt: Allow me to disabuse you of your naïve delusion that we still live in a country with a justice system and break it to you that no one is going to jail for what was done to Flynn, or for the unmasking business, or for the Russia ho...

Kobo touch won't allow register after reset

I lit upon this forum after fruitless searching of the Kobo help pages... I have an elderly Kobo Touch (N905) which decided this afternoon to do a factory reset. When I eventually powered it up again, it prodded me to set it up by connecting it to my PC. I dutifully did so, having installed the Kobo desktop application on my wife's (Windows 10) PC (my PC runs Linux Mint); Windows recognised the internal storage of the Kobo and the SD card which I plugged into the Kobo not long after I bought it...

Libra Books not following series order

Hi! Kobo Libra H2O here. I'm trying to add these seven books which are part of a series. I have them set up as part of a series in Calibre, from 1.00 to 6.50 (last book is a collection of short stories, book 7 is coming). I transfer them as KEPUB, no problem. I have done this for several other series. On the second sync the series information appears and the order numbers are correct. But when I enter My Collections view and order them by series... the order comes out wrong. 4, 6, 6.5, 1, 2, ...

F2 only way to edit the metadata of field in the book list?

I was watching a video where double clicking a field in the book list view allows the user to edit just that field. For me, that results in the full metadata panel coming up. The only way I can individually edit a field in book list view is to use F2. Is there a setting or something I can change to allow easier edit of specific fields in booklist view? What am I doing wrong? Using Calibre 4.10.1 on Windows. Any help appreciated.
