Ambidextrous readers, which page-turn layout do you use?

I've been trying different region layouts. I first tried the layout with the page forward being wide and left, and menu being a small square in the center (second option), but I kept getting the menu when I wanted to turn pages,a nd still had to reach too far over when using my left hand -- further than I had to on my Kindle. Now I'm playing with the fourth option with the entire bottom 40% or so being forward, but then it feels like when holding it right-handed I have to hold it lower than I n...

Forever Altered

Picking up some rolls of film from the local shop can be fraught with memories sometimes... These negatives are precious to me now. This was Rannie's second-to-last trip to the vet. The silver halide particles on the negatives were forever altered by the photons that bounced off Miss Rannie Wu...just like I was.The negatives bear physical witness in a way no digital sensor can. . Howdy

Not from the South, but I like that phrase. :) I just bought a couple refurbished, but like-new Kindle Voyages at approximately $55 each, one for me and one for my older daughter who has proven to be a voracious reader like I was when I was her age, a result that thrills me to no end. Just trying to find my way around and learning how to make the most of these beautiful devices. Still can't figure out why Amazon discontinued this line of e-readers. They have such beautiful screen contrast an...

KOReader save annotated PDF back to Dropbox?

Okay so I know it's possible with KOReader to download PDFs from Dropbox, or even sync a Dropbox folder TO a local folder. But once a PDF has highlights/annotations added in-file — i.e. the PDF has been modified, and saved locally — is it possible to get that PDF back to Dropbox? I know that if I was on a full Android device, I could install one of many apps from the Play Store to sync the specific local folder back to Dropbox, but in this case I'd be on a Kobo device where KOReader is all I've ...

Best Firmware for Kindle Voyage?

Apparently I can now make threads? So as the title says, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the best firmware to use with the Kindle Voyage. As there has been a recent load of resellers offering this device at rock-bottom prices, I think such a thread would prove useful to more than just me. I plan to operated the two Voyages I have with Airplane mode on virtually all the time, and will be sideloading every book I get. My Voyage with 5.10.1.1 has a battery percentage display that is ...

Daily Prime - Korean Oversized Generation II Optimus Prime

Anyone's who checked out the Transformers made in Should Korea has found a lot of strange things going on. Even more so than the Chinese, managed to produce some of the oddest spin-offs from Generation 1 and 2 mixing sizes, shapes, and colors. Some of them have become collector's items over the years, such as the 1997 Korean Oversized Generation II Optimus Prime that we've got a shot of today.

Quote of the Day - Re: George F. Will

I've read some of George F. Will's work, and generally found it worthy.  In fact, I transcribed one of his speeches here at TSM, titled "Learned Feudalism" from the 2010 Cato Institute Milton Friedman Prize dinner.  It was witty, erudite, and absolutely accurate. But the election of Donald J. Trump seems to have unhinged him.  He is the Never-Trumper's Never-Trumper.  Over at Instapundit Ed Driscoll comments on a XiNN piece about Will's most recent Washington Post op-ed calling for a rout of the ...

Everybody remembers their first car, first house, first gun, and many other “first” things. I also happen to remember my first set of electronic hearing protection – Sordin Supreme Basic that I bought nine years ago, in May of 2011, and there are two reasons for that. No Charges for “White Supremacist” Bar Owner Who Shot & Killed Black Protester in Omaha

Jacob Gardner, the Nebraska bar owner who some have described as a “White supremacist,” will not face any charges in the shooting death of 22-year-old James Scurlock, a Black man who was killed amid protests in Omaha Saturday night (May 31). Citing video evidence from the scene, Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Monday (Jun. 2) that Jake Gardner, the owner of The Hive bar in Omaha’s Old Market district, acted in self-defense when he shot and killed Scurlock outside his place of business. T...

What Weather app looks good on eink?

I used to have a Weather app that looked good on e-ink. I found the paid version for free through the AppSales app. But when I recently had to do a factory reset on my Likebook Mars, I discovered that the Weather app I had been using, whose name I don't quite remember, was no longer in the Play store. Using an app that listed my paid apps, I saw that it was no longer among them. So, I'm looking for a new one, ideally with solid color monochrome backgrounds, simple icons, and no animation.

POTD: Heckler & Koch Rifles with A-Tec Suppressors

In our Photo Of The Day, we’re going to take a look at suppressors from A-TEC in Norway. There may be some Heckler & Koch content here as well. The A-TEC company was founded in 1999, in a garage as many other start-ups. The mission was to make better silencers than the ones that existed. Now remember […] Read More … The post POTD: Heckler & Koch Rifles with A-Tec Suppressors appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Catching Up With David Saylors Liberty Suppressors

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- When David Saylors started Georgia based Liberty Suppressors in 2004 there weren’t more than a handful of commercial silencer manufacturers operating in the country, even though sound suppressive devices for firearms have been around for more than a hundred years. In Dave’s own words (punctuated with his soft-spoken southern drawl) “NFA wasn’t really all that cool up till eighty-six”. After all not everyone wants to buy what essentially looks like a cylindrical metal ...

Fact Checkers Resort to Fake News to Push Anti-2A Propaganda

Fact Checkers, Editorialists Resort to Fake News to Push Anti-Gun Propaganda. IMG NRA-ILA U.S.A. -(AmmoLand.com)- As we saw last week with Twitter presuming to fact-check an opinion expressed by President Trump, the legacy media – now in collaboration with tech platforms that constitute the modern public square – still pathetically cling to the idea that they are perceived as a source of “truth” by America at large. Polls, however, show that a majority of Americans do not trust the media to re...

Parking Lot Koreans

During the Rodney King riots, Koreatown in Los Angeles was a target of the rioters. The police, like they have in Minneapolis, abandoned the city. The shop owners in the area, their friends and families, defended their businesses, some from the roofs of their buildings - AKA “Roof Koreans.” Since then, anyone who defends against rioters has been termed a “Roof Korean” in the gun community. Here are some that defended a Minneapolis tobacco store recently. Watch the video, but I want ...

Different footnote/link behavior resulting from epub formatting -- how?

I originally posted here and regarding Moonreader, since there are epub programs which ignore this distinction entirely, but it certainly seems to be a result of something in the epub formatting, no? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=330267 In Moonreader sometimes footnote links ‘jump’ to a different part of the text and at other times the footnote link just brings up the note (in a nice yellow "sticky note", as of the last update) without jumping you around -- in what's brought u...

What to call humans born on the moon?

https://www.floridatoday.com/story/n...ed/5307572002/ Saw this article and wondered what Mobilereaders would think. If thinking globally, I’d go with Earthling/Moonling. If thinking nationally what would you call an American, a German, a Brit, a New Zealander, etc., born on the moon? Do you prefer lunan or lunatic as a suffix? ? Maybe you prefer Greek goddesses and would choose Selenan. Or maybe after a lifetime of reading sci-fi, you know exactly what humans born on the moon should be called. ...

After Seattle Riot, Armed Citizens Guard Small Town as Antis’ Exploit Try Fails

After downtown Seattle erupted in violence, armed citizens in suburban small towns guarded their local businesses. (Screen snip, YouTube, KING News) U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- When residents of Snohomish, Wash., reportedly heard rumors that the violence which erupted in Seattle over the weekend might spill into their community, several took up arms and gathered on the small town’s main street to guard local businesses from vandals, the Seattle Times reported. The Practical Result of "Gun Control"

Just over 17 years ago I wrote a two-part post, Is the Government Responsible for Your Protection?  In it, I discussed a couple of cases that proved that there is no "Duty to protect" on the part of the government -- municipal, county, state or federal.  The second example was of Linda Riss, a New York City resident who was stalked by a jilted lover.  She tried to get police protection, but could not.  Until an attacker hired by her ex threw lye in her face, scarring and blinding her.  THEN she ...
