Diversity Printable (and what I did this week)

I’ve spent a lot of time in silence this week, most of it just listening because I wanted to understand what was happening with the Black Lives Matter movement. The thing I recognized is that underneath all the anger and the protesting is real pain, the collective pain the black community has felt not just for decades, but generations. So I listened a lot and I learned so much. I watched how so many people, including me, are supporting black lives and black stories in different ways: from protes...

Greenman 2.0

What a week, what a crazy time we are living in. I am having a very hard time pulling myself away from the news which isn’t helping my anxiety or getting any work done. I think most of us white ladies are trying to figure out ways we can do better and that, for me at least, has involved a lot of reading, listening (mostly on Twitter), and no chiming in of my opinions. As a result I haven’t been posting on the social medias. #Black Lives Matter. I’ve got some things to show you now so I will try ...

It's 2020. Does anyone still miss the old, tiled homescreen?

So I think the 4.20.x software is great. There's enough features and improvements that in my opinion, anyone with a Kobo should be using it. But as I was browsing around I saw some images of the old, tiled Kobo home screen and realized I do miss it. Am I the only one? Here's a couple of screenshots comparing the old and new home screens. The images may be too small to be useful, but I wanted to make sure they fit the guidelines.

12 books books by Black women

In the wake of George Floyd’s death, a righteous uprising against racism and police brutality has swept the United States, and with it, a proliferation of so-called anti-racist books lists. The aim of these reading recommendations is to educate non-black people how systematic racism affects every aspect of our society — from what and where we eat, to who gets arrested, elected to office, or a starring role in a movie, and yes, who gets to write and publish a book. These efforts to amplify the...

For LA’s Eso Won Books, one of the nation’s preeminent African American bookstores, the moment is now

Bookseller James Fugate says when Eso Won Books reopened on Wednesday, May 27, sales were a little bit slow, though that was expected after more than two months of coronavirus-mandated closure. “You know, it was nice,” says Fugate, co-owner with Tom Hamilton of the nationally known African American bookshop in the Leimert Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. “Sales weren’t bustling because people were just getting used to the idea that they could come back,” he says. “But we were going along.” Then...
