How our Garden Tour Went Virtual

The informal Gardening Boosters group that I helped launch in January planned to have all sorts of in -person gardening events here in Old Greenbelt, Maryland. When those ideas became impossible this year, we turned to the trusty old Internet to create a reasonable alternative, hoping it could serve the same purposes as a normal tour. But it’s proving to be different in more ways than just the virtual bit. More Tours Instead of just one tour, we’re having a Spring, a Summer and a Fall Tour.  T...

Yuma, AZ Walmart 3 June, 2020, Courtesy Dean Weingarten U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- A stop at the local Walmart on 3 June, 2020, revealed an empty gun display. No guns were inside the locked display. There were no cartridges available, other than shotgun bird shot. Walmart had been trending toward gradual elimination of guns from its inventory for years, ever since the death of the founder, Sam Walton, in 1992. Sam discouraged merchandise which was not made in the USA. Sam insisted each store ca...

Can't Verify Emails In GMX

I am using Calibre to change a format from EPUB to MOBI, and then emailing the converted book to my Kindle email address via GMX. GMX had always required me to verify my Kindle email address before forwarding the book to email for emailing to my PC. Suddenly, logging onto GMX and clicking on the verify button no longer does anything. GMX just sits there. Why doesn't the verify process work anymore, and is this verification step really necessary? Any help greatly appreciated.

can't add ebooks to Calibre

I'm trying to help a family member add ebooks (already downloaded to his Mac) to Calibre, for eventual transfer to Kindle. We've tried and tried, but can't get books into Calibre! We tried dragging books in from his user Library to the Calibre window -- it wouldn't let him do so -- as well as adding books via "Add Books" (nothing happened). He's using a current version of macOS and just recently downloaded Calibre. He can't see Preferences on the top right of the screen, like I think he should...

Replace title metadata on PDF with file name

Audiobooks.com

Is anyone here a member of Audiobooks.com? If so, how do you like it? I signed up for the free trial, pick one audiobook, and then 2 from their special selection. Every month you get one audiobook plus one from the special selection, for $15. So two books for $15, which seems like a great deal. That's only if you can find something you like in the collection of the month. I had a hard time finding 2 from the current offering. So I am wondering if anyone has a subscription, how long they've had ...

Ballistic Helmet on a Budget: The Tendy Defendy from Citizen’s Armor Co.

Recommend me books written by Black authors!

I'm looking for recommendations of books written by Black authors. I mostly read science fiction, fantasy, and romance, but I'm willing to try other genres as well. Here are a few of my favourites: Justina Ireland: Dread Nation Quote: Jane McKeene was born two days before the dead began to walk the battlefields of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania—derailing the War Between the States and changing the nation forever. In this new America, safety for all depends on the w...

Logan's Run Is Somehow Both Fabulously Dated and Weirdly Timeless

Logan’s Run was released in June 1976. That means, according to the rules of the movie’s gleaming utopia, it expired 14 years ago—since aging past 30 is simply unheard of. And while certain aspects of the sci-fi classic are indeed outdated, other elements feel as oddly relatable as ever.Read more...

Tarkett’s Light Shift Celebrates Illumination

Designer Suzanne Tick and Tarkett have collaborated on a new modular carpet collection: Light Shift explores the shifting qualities of light, the ways in which it “dramatically shapes our experience of a space and influences us as interconnected beings.” The point is that everybody can relate to light and the way it evolves through the course of a day—creating different atmospheres and thus evoking a variety of emotions. The collection is comprised of three styles of carpeting ...

Suggestion: Search mode - open tabs

I recently had to fix up a big eBook that I had made years ago. I wanted to normalize all the "sgc-x" style classes into a common stylesheet, but it seems like I had done the original book in chunks. This meant that in the first third of the book, sgc-1 might be italics; while in the middle, it might be bold and centred; and in the end, it might be right-aligned. To repair these by using quick find & replacing, I had to use the "Selected HTML Files" search mode, and I found it a little less tha...
