Calibre Conversion: Inconsistent Font Output When Converting From Epub to Docx

Hello, First of all I would like to thank Kovid Goyal and all other contributors for creating this exceptional piece of software. I am currently using Calibre to convert a bunch of epub books to Docx format so that I can directly edit the manuscript's back matter. At first the conversions were really inconsistent and messy. A lot of epubs are created with Vellum and other automated softwares these days which produces really hideous HTML. But once I turned on Heuristic Processing the improvemen...

A glimpse of the past...

Now and again The Onion shows a little spark of the wit that used to make it consistently fire back in the Web 1.0 days..."While Sheila does enjoy our extended line of breakfast foods, that is only one small facet of her rich and complex identity as a human being: Sheila also speaks fluent Italian, likes U2, is bisexual, and enjoys cross-country skiing. Let us make it clear that Sheila never serves the pancakes herself, but now and then goes to a diner near the courthouse where waitresses and wa...

Many of you saw my recent article about my friend’s rough replica of Han Solo’s DL-44 blaster from the Star Wars movie franchise. If you missed it, you can find it here. The idea behind that build was to construct an AR pistol to look like a rough approximation of the movie prop, as inexpensively […] Read More … The post Han Solo’s Blaster Revisited: A Movie-Quality Firing Replica appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Stephen King Yearned to Write an 'Existential' Horror Novel About Friday the 13th's Jason

Watching a hockey mask-wearing killer murder dozens of campers in the Friday the 13th franchise may not scream: “We need his point of view!” But it turns out horror icon Stephen King’s “best novel idea” he never penned was the story of, you guessed it, the indescribably immortal Jason Voorhees.Read more...

Tanks A Lot! Transformers Armada Galvatron with Clench Review by GotBot

While I was not a fan of the Transformers Armada Optimus (not even slightly), Galvatron (based on the Megatron mold) might be a different story. Note, this is, technically, part 2 of this series. I looked at Tidal Wave a long, long time ago.

Forma Deleted Pocket articles, but still show up in Home screen, in Author "spotlight"

I have removed all Pocket articles from my Forma. In other words, they are taking up zero bytes of space on my device. Using geek1011 patch I have even removed a link to pocket articles ("My Articles") from showing up in the upper left menu. However on the home screen, on the lower right corner, there are still references to book articles if the author has written both books and articles. The books appear with their nice book covers; the articles have the pocket logo. In that section, how can I...

9mm v. 380 ACP – Which is Better for Concealed Carry? U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- Caliber arguments seldom result in anything definitive as they tend to drift off into, “what if” and, “I heard” arguments generally fueled by participants defending what they own. library statistics?

Is there some screen in Marvin that would show me the total number of books in my library? not for any practical purpose, I was just curious. I could dump the whole lot back to a desktop using iExplorer and then count files, of course, but it seemed like something Marvin would do... and yet I didn't find anything like that -- Library Statistics. How many books, maybe average size, total storage consumed, I dunno, percentage unread? Just a thought. Like I say, there are other ways to find ...

Daily Prime - Keshigomu Convoy Decoys

When you got a case of the Mondays and don't feel like showing up for a battle, send in the Decoys. These little inch and a half tall robots made of rubber are quite bouncy and fun. What many fans know well from Hasbro's importing them in 1986. Takara had a lot more fun with these bits by offering them as faction sets, game pieces, gashapon (vending machine) toys, and licensed figures.

Supreme Court Denies Writs On All Pending Second Amendment Cases

U.S. Supreme Court Image NRA-ILA U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- The U.S. Supreme Court released its orders from the June 11, 2020 conference. No Second Amendment cases were relisted for consideration. Worse, there will be no Second Amendment cases reviewed this term; all were rejected. The High Court denied certiorari in all of them. This comes as no surprise to the Arbalest Quarrel. We expected this and were making this very point in a comprehensive analysis of the New York City transport gun case...

ABBYY for compression?

I heard that ABBYY Fine Reader does a better job at compression than Acrobat. I’ve been using Acrobat for making compressed PDFs and have not been satisfied with the results. Q 1: I was wondering if I could use ABBYY to re-compress my existing PDFs, or if I would have to use ABBYY to create the PDFs from scratch ? Q 2: Also, is ABBYY SPRINT that comes bundled with document scanners, able to compress PDFs just as well as the full version of ABBYY? Thanks.

Quote of the Day - GeekWithA.45 Edition

From the Wayback Machine: Societies Gone MadTo the people of my parent's generation, World War II was a reality that they had lived through, and not a bunch of black and white movies starring John Wayne. Books upon books were written on the subject, to help them digest and understand just how it was that something of that magnitude could actually happen, how it was that an entire European society could go insane and do what it did. (As for the Japanese society, it was insane to begin with, ...
