Does Kindle DX(G) at FW 2.5.8 have a root password?

Hello I have a situation that another recent poster DaddyLongLegs described very well in thread 334640. Quote: I upgraded the firmware on my Kindle DX a few years back when Amazon put out that notice that if you didn't update it, you'd no longer be able to connect to the Kindle store. So I updated it to 2.5.8 and left it in my locker at work for quite some time. I fired it up last week and noticed I could no longer connect it properly to the internet. I tried...

Calibre Filter Disappeared

I've updated to a new laptop, and now there is no filter available. I had many problems in the past with the filter not working, but I could fix it by hitting the filter button a couple of times. I've attached an image of the top of Calibre. I used to have the filter button by the 'search' and 'saved search' buttons, but as you can see, it's no longer there. You can also see that even though I've selected an 'author' filter, it isn't actually filtering out and displaying only results with tha...

CBR images converted to greyscale in EPUB/AZW3 converted files

Hi, I'm new here, so I hope you can forgive me for posting a question that may have been answered before. I'm currently finishing a two-page article on Calibre for the leading Swiss magazine on print and digital publishing (publisher.ch). Personally, I've used Calibre only for my own purposes and thought (and still think) this is an amazing piece of work. However, as someone who doesn't consume comics, I wasn't aware of Calibre's capability to open and convert comic books file formats. Since I...

Kindle manual update forcing wifi

Hi, Was running 5.13.1 on my V7 paperwhite. On the 'zon website it stated 5.13.3 had performance improvements so I downloaded the files and updated. However, unlike the older f/w, amazon is now forcing wifi to 'setup' the kindle. How can I get the 5.13.1 f/w, or bypass this demand by 'zon? I don't use wifi. Thanks, GA

Kindle Paperwhite (PW4) - broken gummy water-resistant covering

Last week I took a closer look than usual at my year-old Kindle, and noticed a sizable hole (~2 cm) in the gummy material on one of the corners. A smooth plasticky surface is visible underneath. The gummy material is also incredibly thin (like thin writing paper) and it looks like it contracted to increase the size of the hole. I patched it up with clear packing tape which looks a little ugly but now I'm afraid to peel it off for fear of making the hole larger. The gum is also uneven and scuffed...

[GUI Plugin] KOReader Sync

I recently started using KOReader on my Kobo and absolutely love it! The only thing I’m missing is the way in which the Kobo Utilities plugin pulled my read progress into calibre. So I decided to remedy that: KOReader Sync is a calibre plugin to synchronize metadata from KOReader to calibre. KOReader creates sidecar files that hold read progress and annotations. This plugin reads the data from those sidecar files and updates calibre’s metadata based on them. It is inspired by the Kobo Utilities...

Resurrecting an old Kindle Keyboad

So, I've just dug out my old Kindle Keyboard 3g+wifi uk edition. It's still on 3.0.3 firmware. I'd jailbroken it and installed USBNetwork.. and I don't think much else.. maybe a screensaver hack? maybe something to stop it auto updating? (I had a ENABLE_HACK_UPDATES file on the device). I installed the hacks some time in 2011. I tried installing the 3.1 firmware update, but the checksum for ServerConfig.conf fails.
