Unsolicited Product Endorsement Redux

A year after Shootin' Buddy gifted it to me, I gave a glowing endorsement to the Maxpedition Fliegerduffel.I just realized this morning that post was a decade ago. I've used this bag for eleven years now, in car trunks for road trips, a couple times as a carry-on on plane flights, and I don't know how many dozens of times it's been used as checked baggage in an airliner cargo hold.No fraying, no unraveling, no popped seams... The only thing that's gone wrong was I accidentally untied one of the...

Kindle jumps to next chapter

I've got a weird issue on my Kindle Oasis 2019 5.13.3. Let's say I'm reading a book. I exit the book to go to home screen. I open a new book. Then I come back to home screen and reopen the first book. You would think Kindle would open the book on the same page I left last time. Wrong. It opens on the first page of the next chapter. Does that since a couple of weeks. At first I was mightily confused because I was reading stuff that didn't make sense until I realized Kindle was skipping all rema...

Mayor’s Statement on Shooting in ‘Gun-Free’ Mall the Definition of Insanity

Mayor’s Statement on Shooting in ‘Gun-Free’ Mall the Definition of Insanity, iStock-490657417 U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Guns have no place in shopping malls or other places in which crowds of people gather. Mayfair has a strict no-gun policy,” Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis R. McBride declared Saturday in a statement about Friday’s Mayfair Mall shootings when eight people were injured. “If the shooter had complied with that policy, no one would have been hurt yesterday.” If only violent criminals w...

Earth Yellow

The mellow yellow of the pomegranate dye is developing nicely after being heated and cooled for a few days. Adding more skins as I go, the walnut part of the dye becomes less influential. I've yet to find a source here, I am still using the concentrate made last year before I moved. The color seems to develop in sympathy with the drying leaves here. The days wiz by, my mind has slowed to balance them.

Strange reading times

I have two non-sideloaded books. Both of them I've only begun to read. One of them says "2 mins to go" and the other one says "7 mins to go." My non-sideloaded books have more reasonable times (several hours each). I wonder if somehow the chapter and book times got mixed up. Is there some way to fix this? I tried reading a chapter of each but they're still messed up. :thanks:

Help needed converting EPUB to MOBI

I have an EPUB file exported from InDesign that I can't get Calibre to convert to MOBI. Every time Calibre gets 47% finished in a few seconds and then just stops there and does nothing but spin its wheels. I don't get an error message. Calibre just keeps running endlessly. Civet 12 Box Magazine Pump-Action Shotgun – Video Review

Civet 12 Box Magazine Pump-Action Shotgun – Video Review USA – -(Ammoland.com)- Box-magazine-fed, pump-action shotguns gained a lot of attention when Remington and Mossberg released their respective versions of the 870 and 590.  Ironically the tube remains under the barrel to help guide the pump, but there's something about the speed and simplicity of box magazines that people can't resist.  A few highly-skilled professionals aside, most of us can't reload a traditional pump through the botto...

Throwback to hippie days

This little cat was inspired by some Indian print fabric scraps that my neighbor gave me. They look like bits of clothing and bedspreads that everyone I knew was wearing and using for decor back in the late 60’s/70’s. Of course no one I knew would have been wearing a cashmere sweater! She has a purse/bag just like I used to use. I would have made a macrame fringe but it was just too tiny so I settled for knots. Also a cool bead necklace. She is...

Disney Arrogance

#DisneyMustPay https://sfwa.org/2020/11/18/disney-must-pay/ How many other people are Disney cheating and have been bullied into NDAs and settlements? Greedy mouse factory. They also are major lobbyist for unreasonable extending of Copyright. Especially their own. Not to benefit actual creators or their children. Also lobbyist for DRM, which never stops piracy or protects copyright but controls consumers. They think they are unilaterally able to ignore their obligations on copyright royalty...

USCCA vs NRA: Complementary Firearms Training Programs ~ VIDEO

Opinion USCCA vs NRA: Complementary Firearms Training Programs, img USCCA New Jersey – -(AmmoLand.com)- A few months ago I was wrapping up a training class with one of my students. In fact, the discourse that usually follows after completing a basic safety and use training course on firearms includes “What else do you teach? What is next? What about self-defense training?” I’ve been an NRA Certified instructor since 2014 and have had the chance to train several people over the years. My emph...

Books that I sent through send to kindle email address isn't showing up

It used to be that there was a convenient Send to Kindle app that you could use on the computer. But for some reason, since a while ago, it keeps saying "enter a valid email or mobile number" when trying to sign into it. I was suggested to use the 'send to kindle' email address that is on the Kindle. I sent several mobi files as attachment using that address, but I don't see the books in my Kindle app.

Saved searches and highest Calibre IDs

Currently, I have a saved search for "Recently Added" that's just date:>7daysago . This fails for books where I change the Date field though, so I also wanted to add the ten highest Calibre IDs. I'm unsure of how to do this in either boolean criteria or template though. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Work Bag Reboot

Last week's trip was a short one for a product launch. Basically it was "Fly there, get picked up at the airport and shuttled to a somewhat remote resort hotel, get shuttled to the range the next day, back to the hotel, then back to the airport and fly home."While it would have been absolutely legal for me to bring a firearm, the allure of not having to check a bag was a strong one. Truthfully, I felt the absence of a pocket knife more than I did the lack of a gun; the threat envelope was virtu...

Remove book covers in Moonreader+ ?

Hello! I download fanfiction from ao3 to read offline, and sometimes there is art embedded in the fic. Although I appreciate the art, sometimes it appears as the cover in Moonreader. I have tried to edit the metadata in Calibre (created a standard cover, and removed cover) but the standard cover doesn't appear in Moonreader, and removing the cover doesn't remove it either. I'm not quite sure what I've done - usually I download as an azw3 or epub file and edit the tags just so I can sort my li...

Desktop App HELP with authorising DRM'd epub buys

As I wrote earlier, I recently changed emails in Adobe, Kobo, Fnac, and it was quite a hassle. But it turns out a disaster, because when I installed ADE 4.0 (ADE 2.0 had weird problems) on a PC (the Surface Book 1 I just reinitialized,) I couldn't open an .acsm. I couldn't authorize ADE with my present email/password, nor the former ones. I can't use the Sony app anymore either. If there is no solution, I give up on the hundreds of epubs I bought before (most are in Calibre anyway), but what ca...

Hardy bananas growing in EnglandWho doesn't like bananas? Well of course some people don't. But if you do, have you ever wondered it it were possible to plant your own banana tree and then over time produce your very own fresh, organic fruits? Well if you live in the United Kingdom and not the tropics then no it wouldn't be possible, at least not left outside to its own devices. However with the benefit of modern technology you can grow a cavendish edible banana tree in the UK. You just ...

Help finding 7.8" Ereader with Remote Page Turn

I read in bed at night on my 6" Paperwhite using a gooseneck stand. I am now looking for a larger screen (7.8") device that supports remote page turning. I load DRM free novels onto my device using from my PC with Calibre. After about an hours worth of reading, I've narrowed it down to: Boox Nova 2 with B.T. Remoter (Expensive) Likebook Mars (Does it support remote page turning?) I was also looking into Kobo Forma, but that doesn't appear to support remote page turning, and...

Orphaned books

I was digging through my old paperbacks this morning and came across two books that are classic examples of orphaned works. Orphaned books is the great gap in copyright law that most acknowledge as an issue, but few are willing to actually address. Basically, these are books where the author is dead and the actual copyright holder is either unknown or basically indifferent to the work. Thus, the books are unavailable except in a used format and there is not real way for them to get back into p...

Galaxy Tab S7 Plus

Good morning everyone I just bought this device and I put some books on it that were not purchased from Amazon. I dl Kindle for Android. I dl Moon Reader Pro. But neither will find the books in the folder named Books on my SD card. Anybody have any thought on how I can get at least one of them to see my books? They are in .azw3 for...
