Best CSS support for EPUBs?

After using FBReader for many years, I thought I would evaluate EPUB readers again. I have some EPUBs with pretty specific publisher CSS and I'm hoping to find a reader that will render these as well as calibre's reader does. And also support my other wanted features. So far Bookari and PocketBook do the best CSS rendering that I have tested. But neither is quite perfect based on my (possibly too high) requirements. Here are the short comings for me. BookariNo Image Zoom (for details on maps, ...

Book excerpt: The Spy

Dear Mr. Clunet, I do not know what will happen at the end of this week. I have always been an optimistic woman, but time has left me bitter, alone, and sad. the-spy-paulo-coelho-cover-244.jpg Knopf If things turn out as I hope, you will never receive this letter. I’ll have been pardoned. After all, I spent […]

Screensaver

I've had my Forma for a few weeks and have been enjoying it. I came over from a Kindle Oasis. I like having the two navigation buttons of the Oasis, but the additional size of the Forma makes reading much more of a pleasure. Using the developer options to invert the screen for reading in bed with the spouse works great. I only need about 3% on the light to read. I use calibre to manage my books and have side loaded all content after I converted the books to kepub format (except for my Calvin & H...

CSS for book descriptions?

Does one of the CSS files in /data or elsewhere govern the rendering of text on the Description screen (that contains the descriptive metadata visible on the metadata screen in Calibre and in the epub's opf file) that's accessible from, among other places, the Book Information screen for each book? Mainly, I want to create space between paragraphs so that multi-paragraph descriptions don't all look like one paragraph. I can do this by manually adding one space paragraphs in Calibre or in the opf...

PDF reading: Samsung - Galaxy Tab S7 Plus - 12.4” Vs. iPad Pro 12.9"

Samsung - Galaxy Tab S7 Plus - 12.4” Vs. iPad Pro 12.9" I am interested to read pdf and books on a larger screen and has narrowed choices to above two. Can you please guide me to a decision. iPad screen size looks good with a wider aspect ratio. So i think for pdf docs this is better. Anyone has comments on this? Samsung: 11.22 x 7.28 x 0.22 in iPad Pro: 11.04 x 8.46 x 0.23 in The pro for Samsung is it is cheaper compared to iPad pro and I can get one at Costco with keyboard and sPen for...

*BUGS’N’SLUGS* Elementary Science Trivia Game

Games are my favorite way to add some fun and curiosity to a science unit, and Bugs’N’Slugs is a really fun, active, and super educational board game for elementary science. Each player chooses a bug as their player’s token, begins on the starting square and rolls the die to travel around the board, answering questions […]

Interview with Author Lucy Knott

— Lucy Knott with her book in Amalfi’s Pasticceria Pansa One of the best parts of Ciao Amalfi has been the way it’s brought so many incredible people into my life. Some of them have even become my closest friends over the years. A decade ago that happened via blog post comments and connections with other bloggers. These days it seems most likely to happen via social media, which is exactly how I first “met” Lucy and Kelly, who go by the name The Blossom Twins. After seeing a mutual friend ...

*CARTOGRAPHERS* Map Making Roll Player Game

Games are such great mind-food for children’s imaginations, and the thing I really love about games is that they require active work from the brain. Starting a home garden from scratch

For years, I wanted a bigger garden than my tiny little 4 x 6 patch. I got caught up in decision paralysis, but my biggest quandary was where would I put a bigger garden? I didn’t feel like I had the ideal spot on a small suburban lot with a wide, shallow, angled and sloped yard. If you’re thinking about starting a garden, here is what I did to create my garden from scratch. More

New FFNET Issue

Dear Plug-In Authors, I'm new to the forum, but the most recent addition to the FFF Plug-In for Calibre seems to have a problem. I can no longer download or update books from fanfiction.net (FFNET). Note: I was trying one book at a time and turning on my VPN doesn't do anything. I also tried multiple books and links. None of them worked. I don't think the plug-in was broken (by me) because I haven't touched the settings. Also, it downloaded two AO3 links just fine. The error message: "HTTP Er...

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: Silent Night Edition – Dead Air Nomad-TI

Lightweight is worth the wait Besides the total repeal of the NFA, all I want for Christmas is a Dead Air Nomad-Ti Silencer.  The Nomad-Ti, based on specs alone, is up at the pinnacle of lightweight .30 cal cans. The added plaudits from TFB Honchos James and Pete don’t hurt, either.  A lightweight can that […] Read More … The post ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: Silent Night Edition – Dead Air Nomad-TI appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Default Server Panel

Hello All! This isn't a big deal, but it has been bothering me for a while... Is it possible to access a certain Book List Mode by default on Calibre Server? The server seems to default to "Cover Grid which corresponds to image cover displays without any description. True, this can be changed during access from "Cover grid" to "Detailed list" through "book list mode", but one needs to know how to do this. I'd prefer the page default display to be "Detailed list" for users who aren't necessa...

The Pleasures and Perils of Young, Broke Gardens

To walk through a young garden in winter is a courageous act when the garden is your own, and the budget, diminutive.  We forget how much frosting the active growing season naturally spreads over an imperfect cake – or indeed, how much frosting the resourceful amongst us can whip up with the aid of dramatic, fast-growing, but tender, subtropical foliage. Summer-installed Red Abyssinian bananas and bright canna hide the wide spacing of steadily growing ‘Black Dragon’ cryptomeria, ‘Cardinal Cand...
