Listening and editing

I'm sure my great ignorance will become apparent once I start to write, but I will try to be clear. I will say what I want to do and then hopefully someone can tell me if I can do it and how. I have both an older MacBook Pro running Sierra, and a new MacBook Pro running Catalina. 1. I want to buy a book online that I download to my computer. The book would reside on my computer, not anywhere else. Not interested in having a library in the cloud, etc. Not interested in having an "account" with s...

Amazon Publishing in talks to offer e-books to public libraries

Credit where credit is due, I found this story via a headline from GoodEreader: Amazon working on new system to license ebooks to public libraries But I found the Publisher's Weekly article better. On the upside, Amazon may make their Amazon Publishing titles available to libraries. On the downside, it will be via something called the SimplyE platform. But it's an opening anyway.

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS: Steel and Wood Edition

OK, let’s start with an honest disclosure: I won’t get these guns for Christmas 2020, nor I will get any firearms, for that matter. However, this doesn’t mean I can’t dream. linespace for standing cap

I use a standing cap at the chapter beginning: THE GLACIER WOUND AND TWISTED between upthrust walls of naked stone. p{margin:0;text-align:justify;} .small{font-size:0.77778em;} .stand{font-size:2.5em;font-style:italic;font-weight:bold;line-height: 1.2rem;} .first{text-indent:0;margin-top:2em;} Convert to AZW, on Kindle, it adds a space proportional to the cap size below the first line: see screen. On ePub was the same, until I added "line-height: 1.2rem;". That fixed the linespacing in ePub, b...

You Don’t Know Jack (but you Should!)

Jack is a new table from Autonomous, a Victoria, BC design-build company that “disrupts the modern home with dramatically contemporary furnishings.” Disrupt is an apt verb in these Pandemic days, and the Jack table, as an emblem of the Autonomous oeuvre, provides solace as a return to basic, beautiful forms that make home living more livable. The table is handcrafted in solid ash (whitened or blackened). A double tenon joint fuses tabletop and legs, while offset leg widths conv...

From version 5 on, Calibre won't start on windows 10

I am currently back with 4.23, which works. Several times I tried installing a version 5.x, but it won't start. I don't get any error message, just... no Calibre. I found an old thread which suggested turning off virus protection, which I tried, it did not help. Also, deleting metadb.db, this file is not even on my computer, but there were some with similar names which I renamed. Did not help. I would like to be able to run a newer version of Calibre, but I'm out of ideas. Can someone help?

Georgia Runoffs a Chance to Strike Against Biden’s Gun Ban Agenda

Georgia Senate Runoffs Will Decide The Fate Of These Bills Georgia – -(AmmoLand.com)- The runoff elections in Georgia are the first chance we have to strike a blow at any potential anti-Second Amendment agenda Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have in store for us. The fact is, electing two Second Amendment champions could potentially have effects beyond the legislative branch. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue would both be outstanding in terms of voting on legislation and nominations. In fact, if y...

Calibre content server web interface not responding on iOS/iPadOS Safari browser

Hi all, Calibre has been a fantastic tool for me to read and organize my comic books. My reading workflow: I import comic books into my calibre library on my Mac and they will be automatically converted to cbz files. Then I start the content server so that I can use my iPad to view them from the iPadOS Safari browser via the 192.168.1.XXX:8080 link (under the same local network of course). This reading experience had been perfect for me to catch up with my favorite comic series. However, thi...

Likebook Ares switching between apps

Hello, Got a brand new Likebook Ares from Amazon Germany. Really like it. I was wondering if there is a way of switching between Scribd (3rd party app) and the native Notes app? I normally have to select the Home icon on the top bar and then reopen the Notes. Is there something similar to a Tracking ball navigation like on the Onyx? Is there a native rotation setting? I prefer watching my youtube videos on Likebook Are (yes I am in the minority of people who enjoy watching old movies on e-in...

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig Is a Goodreads Winner in Fiction

I found about The Midnight Library when I voted The Best Book of the Year 2020 on Goodreads, a few weeks ago. It’s actually called the Best Choice Award or something. I have voted for books whose authors I’ve heard of or I have read before, but also blindly, like in a poker game. I […] The post The Midnight Library by Matt Haig Is a Goodreads Winner in Fiction appeared first on Rodolfo Grimaldi Blog.
