"Delete unused stylesheet classes" problems with overloaded styles

I was looking at an ePub with these styles: (passes ePubCheck , no warnings). Code: .width-auto-rw .pc-rw { width: auto; } .width-10-rw { width: 9%; } .pc-rw { margin: 0; padding: 0; } .pc-rw img { width: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; } .pc-rw table { width: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; } .pc-rw p { text-align: left; } Used e.g. here to display an ornament: Code:                           I run "Delete unused stylesheet classes" and the styles are reduced to Code: ...

PJ Harvey (2021) Reading Challenge

I really love reading challenges because of the way it stretches your reading comfort zone, but I've always sucked at actually completing them. In 2015, over at Goodreads, we kicked off our most outrageous challenge ever, borrowing The Beatles Reading Challenge from another group I was a part of, which had turned their songs into reading tasks. And 2016, we whipped up The Reading Challenge. (I really sucked at this one. I couldn't even complete one album, but man was it fun trying!). A...

TFB Review: Inforce Wild2 Weapon Mounted Light

In the world of weapon lights, there are some pretty big names from SureFire to Streamlight. They both offer some great options for both pistol and rifle lights. I am a big fan of both the SureFire X300 line of weapon lights or Streamlight’s TLR-1 HL offerings. Inforce broke into the weapon-mounted light market a […] Read More … The post TFB Review: Inforce Wild2 Weapon Mounted Light appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

My 25 most important points

Paulo Coelho’s fans often refer to his books as inspiring and life-changing. His words speak to everyone in a different way and everyone has their own favourite passages – as demonstrated by the number of quotes from his books that can be found all over the internet. Low cost e-ink device with best browser?

I'm looking to upgrade my web browsing experience from a Kindle 4 and wondering what my options are. A Paperwhite is unlikely to be a much of an improvement in the browser department, but what other devices are out there that don't break the bank that have a decent browser? I'm fine with older and/or second hand devices. A hard upper limit is $170, since at that price I might as well just get a Hisense A5. I'm more looking at something in the $50 to $100ish range. Suggestions?

*BOSK* Majestic Trees, Falling Leaves Strategy Board Game

Nature themed games are some of my favorites for gameschooling.  They are a wonderful supplement to a holistic, curiosity led, interest driven way of studying science out in the natural world through observation and experience.   Bosk is a beautiful game about trees, our favorite element of nature.  I’m a native Oregonian and am also a […]

Wheelgun Wednesday: Need For Speed with the .22 Jet

Getting Fast with the S&W Model 53 I was taking a break at a hunting base camp resupplying to go after elk after a hard week of hunting mule deer in deep snow, when the camp cook brought out a revolver to show us after dinner.  At first, I thought it was just a nice […] Read More … The post Wheelgun Wednesday: Need For Speed with the .22 Jet appeared first on The Firearm Blog.

Area 419 Maverick and the Hellfire System, Taming Recoil and Sound

U.S.A. –-(AmmoLand.com)- If you’ve never heard of Area 419, I really don’t know what you’re doing with your life. But, for those that haven’t Area 419 has been making some of the best precision rifle builds, reloading equipment, and a slew of really innovative accessories primarily tailored to the PRS or long-range rifle shooter. What I really like about their products is you can tell that they are shooters, and address real issues that shooters have. They don’t randomly throw a bunch of crap...

Calibre Lite Dev

This is a request to find and hire a Calibre developer, that is, someone with Calibre custom programming experience. Our requirement is to first strip away all of Calibre's textbook management features, anything and everything except the ability to properly display a single EPUB document. We'll call what's left Calibre Lite with a link to full-featured Calibre. A detailed requirements document for Calibre Lite is available. Second, we need to make this Calibre Lite accessible to the disabled. ...

Calibre is changing the file type of my zip files

I have added a book in pdf format to Calibre. I am trying to add a zip file to the book as well but Calibre keeps changing the format to CBZ. The zip file just contains a couple of jpegs. I would have been happy to not have to zip up the jpegs but Calibre only allows one file of each format. On the topic of format limitations, why does Calibre not allow more than one file of the same format. I have books in PDF format that also have a solutions manual in PDF format that I would like to include w...

Not enough space to export/backup library. How to do partial backup?

My laptop has a 220GB SSD. My Calibre library takes up 88 GB of space. Right now there’s only about 66 GB remaining space on my laptop. I can’t completely back up my Calibre Library (using the "export your data" function). Is there a way I can do part-by-part backups of my Calibre library? Maybe I can back up 35 GB of the books that are low-priority reading. Just to be clear, I don't want to just save the epub/pdf/azw files, but also the metadata associated with them (e.g. comments, date adde...

2020 Reflections & 2021 Intentions

2020 sure gave all of us plenty of time for stillness and reflection, didn’t it. And perhaps that’s what we all needed. I remember in the beginning of the year reading stories of a virus in China and didn’t think much about it other than hoping they contained it and all would be fine. I remember saying to several friends “no worries, it won’t reach us” but oh my how I was so wrong. Who could have imagined a virus would shut down the modern world? I remember in early March coming back from a five...

28 for 2021

Omar Arbel’s 28 Table Lamp is just one of the many incarnations of this inventive and illuminating blown glass fixture for Bocci. At first glance, 28 appears to be a flawless spheroid, but closer inspection reveals slight imperfections —spontaneous distortions intended and achieved via subtle manipulations in temperature and direction of air flow during manufacture. The shade thus manifests an otherworldly aesthetic, with “an interior landscape of satellite shapes, including an...

Antique languages in epub

Hello! I hope somebody can help with this: it is there some recommendation/best practice about dealing with words in an antique language in an epub? And by 'antique language' I don't mean Latin nor Classic Greek, but beauties like Hittite or Phyrgian--so, I suspect that both spelling and pronunciation are dubious, and for specialists... However, I feel that they ought to be got out of the way of the spell-checker, and if one were to use a text-to-speech  Any help will be appreciated...

iPad Anyone buy the new iPad Air?

Anyone buy the new iPad Air? I’ve never owned one of the Air models. I currently have an old original iPad Pro 9.7 and the iPad mini 5. I love my mini 5 for reading, but it is a bit too small for heavy internet browsing. I find myself now using my iPad Pro 9.7 for most of my internet browsing, and not using my MacBook Pro for browsing as much as I once did. The iPad Pro 9.7 is getting pretty old and the technology is showing its age. I found out I can trade-in the Pro toward a new Air and get $1...

How to convert a MIDI guitar into a QWERTY keyboard

From George The KA: After putting up the Christmas tree early with the kids, I spent a few hours this Sunday afternoon on another geeky techno-music experiment: building a program converts any MIDI guitar into a customizable computer keyboard. Although getting this to work coding-wise was not difficult, the hard part was figuring out how to map a guitar to a keyboard. — Read the rest

Don’t Overlook North Dakota as a Premiere Outdoors State

Opinion by Brandon Butler Brandon Butler in ND: North Dakota offers endless hunting and fishing opportunities across a beautiful landscape. USA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Over the course of two trips to North Dakota for different conferences, I covered most of the state. What I found was an answer to the question of why Theodore Roosevelt chose this somewhat unheralded land to serve as his wilderness reprieve from life in New York City. Vast expanses of prairie, rugged badlands, thousands of pothole...
